The game has been dumbed down. The simplest example is the quick save. It is an Unreal game. YET THERE IS NO QUICK SAVE. Plenty of other factors are dumbed down as well. Only 1 supply of ammo meaning that there is no longer falling back on a wimpy pistol after you machine gunned down the guards at the front. Flame throwers, rocket launchers, guns and stun battons all use the same ammo supply. Don't even get me started on the inventory or the hud. It is clearly made for the x-box controler. Not the pc.

Play the game by all means. As said it is not bad but it is no Deus Ex 2. Read the forums.

Thief 3 by the same studio horrifies me. Is it going to be a real successor or just another, sorry but console owners don't have a button left for quick saving so get stuffed pc owners with your 101 keyboards.

No I rather see these golden games go down gracefully. I recently played Fallout 2 and the graphics were not unplayable. I am thinking of playing fallout 1 again and afterthat Planescape Torment. Maybe I can even get System Shock 2 to work. (crashes when I enter the training area without fail)

Maybe PC gaming is dying. Hopefully games like Neverwinter will allow talented individuals to continue to give us excellent RPG's while the money is being made in the console area.

America seems desperate to introduce all kind of high tech gadgets to make war easier. Yesterday there was a short news story about afghanistan on the BBC. A US post in a contested area was visited by reporters. At night the post comes under attack from rocket fire. The US calls in artilary on where it thinks the rockets have come from. In the morning they go out and check. What they find is missles setup with timers aimed at the post (some had not gone off). So all these highly equipped soldiers plus all the awacs stuff flying up there totally failed to spot a bunch of guys coming in, setting up a few missles and leaving again.

The US took heavy fire (no losses this time or at least not shown) the enemy took ZERO fire. Not one round.

    Says it all really.

US army. War is putting a lot of soldiers on the ground with guns and getting them to kill more of the enemy then the enemy kills of you. This has worked for thousand of years. You are not going to be able to chance it. You want to because you don't want another vietnam. Well now you got two vietnams. War is hell but more importantly war only works when it is hell. Only when you totally slaughter the enemy will you convince the enemy to stop fighting. Little clever robots are not going to do this.

As for why MS is doing this. Bill Gates is a little kid. For the last 20 years he has been head of an empire growing ever bigger. Everyone around him told him he was a hero. Now slowly he is finding out that outside his little empire people really don't share his vision of the world. Law makers are after him, geeks are building software for FREE, major companies he thought he had beaten multiple times are still there ready to see him fail.

I am willing to bet that nobody on this earth will be able to get Bill Gates to admit that this is a just punishment, that he Bill Gates was guilty and that this settlement is exactly what MS deserved. To all the MS apologists. Proof me wrong.

Well, there are a number of different type of dating games. From real datingsims/rpgs to powerpoint slides. The first you typically are a boy who comes in a situation where several girls are not running away anymore. True Love gives you a number of days to find your true love. Each day is divided in three wich you can spend earning money, improving youreselve or dating. ID or Bioware need not worry but it certainly is a fun puzzle game. (Then again, didn't a lot of people complain about Nevewinter Nights because it lacked the romance that was in Baldur's gate? This romance "quest" was basically a dating sim light with only text suggestion of sex. Apparently westerners like it as well.)

At the other hand are games in wich you do nothing but click through text and watch some pics. Some force you to do option 1x2 option 3x2 then option 2x1 but this is just filler, not gameplay.

In between are an awfull lot of crap and enjoyable games that are usually labelled hentai games or more politly dating games.

So how acceptable are they? Several of them have been turned into anime shown on tv. So perhaps they are as acceptable as the porn movies "Deep Throat" and such classics were once.

Japan and the west, certainly america, have radically different ideas of what is acceptable.

Nowwhere does this show more then with the disclaimer in translated games. Kana Little Sister is a game liked by those who played it for the story. One of the few games that makes you sad, however you also screw your sister. However the american company felt need to warn you that all models are 18 or over. We are talking drawings here. Drawings of a girl in highschool.

That she is your sister is apparently of no concern although the story could easily have been adjusted to make clear from the beginning that she is not.

Oh well. In short I think that a game like True Love, To heart or Kanon is fairly acceptable in japan, in the same way that say playboy is here. Popotan and Kana Little Sister are probably titles you better not mention playing at work.

Any japanese around who can confirm or deny this?

Oh and as a side note. I wish some western games would spend half as much time as hentai games on plot and just working without crashing thank you very much.
