Seriously, it's so fluctuating, that no one should treat it as that, but rather containing information one can use as a starting point for research, by verifying it with other sources. But name a source you wouldn't want to do that with. A single scientist's paper? Encyclopedia Britannica?

I've found it to be pretty handy when trying to get a brief synopsis of something that I've come across or wanted to know a 'little bit more' about when it doesn't really matter.. I've found some pretty interesting entries about bands and other random things that I just wanted to do a little quick non-important 'research' on... for that I think wiki is a great thing.

IMHO. If they can get good ratings from Curb Your Enthusiasm, they can get good ratings for AD.

Used to be the only thing that could get me to subscribe to HBO was the begining of a new season of Sopranos, but with Carnivalle, 6'Under (which I never saw, but everyone says is great.. I'd probably try it out if I resubscribed) Deadwood and Rome (which I've heard mixed things about) among others, it seems HBO has quite a run of good shows that combined actually make it worth $10/mo that Cox wants for it. I recently threw CYE onto the TiVo and was hooked, that show alone almost has me subscribing, but if they added AD, combined with the other shows mentioned above, they may regain me as a subscriber! ...now if only they could steal P&T:Bullshit from cinemax or showtime or wherever it ended up I would hardly need any other channels!

Never buy cell phone cables from the carrier. Try online, especially ebay. The last two times I bought phones, instead of getting $20-$30 cables from Verizon, I ordered multiple cables (backups, one for travel, car, etc.) for a few bucks each.

Absolutely. For my Treo600 I got a desktop charger (docking cradle), car charger (now this thing SUCKS! but it charges the phone nice n' quick.), a home charger, and a system data cable for 6 bucks. And for my old phone it cost me a buck for a car charger, home charger, leather case, and 'range extender sticker thingy' (which I threw away).. but why pay 20 bucks (at least) a piece when you can get everything for just over 5? ebay is the way to go for cellphone accessories I've noticed.

Opera has never forced banner ads on anyone. Currently, you can download the browser free, with no banner ads. Prior to a few months ago, you could pay (gasp) and not have to put up with the banners. In either case, it's your choice.

You left out one important point about their ads. When you go under preferences you can SPECIFY what type of ads you WANT! I actually liked that, I didn't bother buying the commercial version because first off, the banner ads were very unobtrusive, and secondly, they were all ads for things that I liked! Ugh, I wish my TV could pull off that trick.

  10. Re:Lets hope they open source it on Google to Buy Opera? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I almost got used to Opera a few months ago, then I realized it didn't have extensions. Which means no adblock. Whoops. So it was back to Firefox for me.

Absolutely 100% same story here. I was a big safari supporter, always trying new browsers though, firefox, opera, none of them were fast enough for me, opera opened fast enough, but.. I dunno, I still liked safari better. Firefox is actually quite a bit slower than safari for me, but I can't use safari anymore, #1 reason, extensions. I've got mouse gestures which I've grown dependent on, forecastfox which, although it's not a necessity, it's pretty cool. I recently added adblock though, and it made a lot of the pages I frequent a lot more tollerable. That and FlashBlock.. Now I've got Mouse Gestures, no ads, no flash, and a weather forecast and everything tuned to look and feel and behave exactly as I want it to... I'll sacrafice a little speed for the functionality. One other thing, I can't even really imagine any other browser, even if they added extensions, having them catch on to the degree of the mozilla folks, you can find extensions for everything on these things.. I'm hooked.

That being said, I love Opera and consider it a GREAT browser, if firefox didn't have me in a stranglehold, I'd definitely be using that instead.

Wonder what it'll take for real to become 'socially acceptable' someday. Looks like they're trying at least.

There was also that issue with Ridge Racer crashing the system if you had a DVD remote profile saved on memory cards or something? I guess that could be somewhat comperable to MS's big gun launch title crashing the 360 (strange how in both cases it was the system's second generation, the flagship racing title, and one of the first games out the gate to give them issues.) In any case, I remember it was fixed pretty quickly..

However I've got to give it to Sony for one thing.. About 3 or maybe even 4 years after getting my ps2..? it started having trouble reading discs, I cracked open the case and tried to adjust the laser myself (as stated on a few websites on how to adjust the voltage) which didn't help.. I call up their help line and they tell me to mail it in and they'd fix it for free, that there's like a 1mo turnaround on it, I told them it was opened (and well out of warrantee by now) and he said not to worry about it, they'd fix it for free. Turns out they wanted me to mail it to one of their service centers about 15 minutes from my work. They allowed me to just drop it off in person, and had it fixed and ready for me in 24 hours, I picked it up the next day and didn't even spend a dollar, not even a bench fee of a few dollars like I was expecting.. I figured sure, they'll fix it for free but there'll be some little sidecharge i'm willing to pay, nothing. I showed up the next day and they handed it to me and said have a nice day. I was very impressed with their service and their willingness to offer me a lot more than I was expecting for a lot less than I was expecting. I'll be getting a PS3 once they're out and affordable.

How big is MS Office? If people find that offensive, they can always send away for the CD. I would, however, like to see some of the memory bloat taken out.

Now this may not apply to my current situation, I use OS X and NeoOfficeJ was the available equivelant for OOo for me, but what you stated is exactly how I feel as well, if it can fit on a CD you should be good.. sure the first download may take a while if it's a 600 meg EXE or ISO or something, but you could always burn that to a disc once it's downloaded if you need to do it more than once, or for archival purposes, most systems come with at least a CD burner and the discs are what 10c a piece now?

Memory usage on the other hand, is the reason I still use MS Office instead of OOo/NeoOfficeJ, it's just faster, more responsive, less memory intensive.. I can't wait for the day that the OOo team does catch up to MS though, I'd love to never have to pay for an office suite at 150 for the STUDENT edition ($400 for Standard and $500 for Pro?) Those prices are absolutely ridiculous.

OOo has already got MS beat on price and ease of obtaining a copy, I don't even have to leave my house and the download doesn't take that long at all. Just have to get a few more features and lower the memory usage and they'll have MS beat on every front.
