It's currently on sale for $16.95 (plus S&H) at bookpool.com. But I think I got their last in-stock copy just yesterday. Can't wait for it to show up next week.
And yeah, ditto to everything else you said. A friend of mine was complaining that "every time he goes on the internet, my computer slows waaaayyyy down...". I told him, "Dude, you are 0wn3d", gave him a Knoppix CD and told him to unplug his DSL modem when he boots into Windows. He's happily back to full speed surfing and I didn't have to go clean up his Windows mess. Win-win, baby. Gotta love it!!:-)
Good point but, seems to me that a small, disposable propulsion rocket would take care of that. One small push and voila! Instant meteor shower for us surface-dwellers.
You're right. I should have given credit where due, but I was in a hurry when I wrote it. I figured you purists would recognize the quote as coming from Black Adder.
Ummm... he didn't say internet - he said "net". By that, I assume he meant that data can be pretty easily manipulated between the click of the button and the results popping out at the other end - whether there is a net involved or not has little bearing. Also, keep in mind that with closed source software running on the e-voting machine, accountability for what happens to the data is much more difficult to verify.
Terrible advice IMHO. The more that other browsers identify as IE, the less likely these lazy designers will ever catch a clue. Do the world a favor and send them an e-mail explaining why you won't be back instead. It might not get through to them, but acquiescing definitely won't.
This game sucks! I put it on my Pentium90 maxed out at 128MB RAM w/an ATI WinTurbo64 graphics card.
Guess what?
It runs like s#!t!! And it's waaayyy too dark - all I see is a stupid black screen. I keep moving my trackball and pressing the arrow keys but I can't tell what the hell is going on in this game!
I thought the 'run as root' thing was changed quite a while ago - when it was still called 'Lindows' and selling pre-installed on Wal-Mart/MicroTel boxes.
Have they really gone back to this idiocy with the name change?
Hmmm... maybe in sheer quantity. But for the size of the crime, I think you'd have to look to the rich and powerful as the perps. Long before Enron, the precedent was set by The S&L Crisis - which was the single biggest theft of taxpayer dollars ever. Jim Wright, the Speaker of the House at the time, was forced to step down from his position as a result of that single crime. Daddy Bush's other kid, Neal was up to his eyeballs in that same deal as I recall. He got off scot-free.
Gee - sure hope they're all still living comfortably while poor inner-city kids are being shot by police almost daily. </SARCASM>
Ok - I know I'm veering a bit off-topic but what's the point of including the word 'black'? Doesn't the phrase '...a young kid was shot dead...' carry the same weight?
Not trolling - just genuinely wondering why people do this?
You forgot my favorite chord progression; BAGFACE.
I also have no solid evidence, but I've always suspected that a certain Australian rock band got their name while the guitar players were writing a song...
"How's that chord progression go again Malcolm?"
"'ere Angus, it's A, then C, then D, then C again"
Yep. It's a closely guarded secret that 'The Notorious BHG', (as he likes to be called around campus), handed the reins over to DancingMonkeyBoi in order to free up more time to post to slashdot.
Maybe you're right. Y'know, I still haven't figured out why Microsoft has picked this fight with Linux. It's a war they can't possibly win. You can't compete with a hobby after all. And yes, before the zealots jump all over me, I know Linux is much more than a hobby these days. Still, that's what makes it virtually impossible to wipe out.
It would be a much more interesting computer world today if MS had gone with the same attitude as IBM. Just think of where we could be if MS was contributing to open source in a big way instead of wasting resources trying to dis-credit it at every turn.
I would guess that one result might be that their stock wouldn't be stuck at ~$25/share while Redhat's, (for example), has gone from $5/share up to $25 in the last several months. It seems shareholders and potential investors are biding their time and waiting to see how this all shakes out.
I quieted the fan in my power supply by jamming a metal fork into it. As soon as the blades of the fan came into solid contact with the tines of the fork, the fan stopped spinning and my computer has been much quieter ever since.
About the same time, I noticed that my computer began actng strngly though so maybe ths wsnt teh bsts srlstuion aftr ahl....?
Of course, you're right. Almost everything is hackable but... most people don't hack - they buy into the technology and money changes hands. Why else is Microsoft still making billions?
Ultimately, this will be targeted toward consumers - and that's where the money will be made. Hackers and indie artists notwithstanding...
Heh - "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." -- A.C.C.
The RIAA will be happy to collect their slice of this pie. And don't think for a second that they won't be right there, with their hands in the customary 'palm up' position, as this technology is rolled out.
Not that I would have a big problem with the RIAA if they just didn't act like such imbeciles. I'd be happy to see them get their cut if they fostered innovation in music and actually helped the creative process. Instead, like any other large conglomerate, they are more interested in the bottom line. So, what we'll get are more waves of Auto-Tuned Britney, Xtina, and Justin clones.
Seems to me the RIAA will have no problem with this at all. Why should they when they will be part of the payment chain? Or did you think it said 'free' download? Better think again...
So, if the default password is stoopid, (or even if it's smart), you should change it right away!!, duh! Otherwise, you're just asking to be bent over the barrel.
I remember when I first installed WinNT on a computer, (shudder - glad I won't be doing that again). First thing I did was change the administrator account to another name and disabled the 'guest' account. Same thing with that stupid '1234' default password on my RT314 router from Netgear - changed it immediately. Even if the default password was 'X87z2gh9', why would you not change it?
I mean, c'mon. It's called taking a little responsibility for yourself.

A: Well sure, it's like silvery or goldy but it's made out of iron.

I'm sorry but I must respectfully disagree...
The answer is, of course, 42.

In addition to the above, you can also set 'browser.turbo.enabled' to true.
