I think the RIAA should send a warning letter to all the music industry record makers putting them on notice that their high prices encourage illegal downloading of music. And that unless the music makers stop ripping off their customers they will potentially be sued by the RIAA. The P2P networks could help out by providing the stats on the most popular downloaded music, thus identifying record labels which most overcharge causing the downloading.
How does the RIAA get hold of IP addresses which they believe are trading their files?
Surely K would not give this?
How does the RIAA get to ask the ISP's for the addresses and from where do they get the "tip off" from and is this "tip off" a legal source?
In some States the "owner" of a machine is liable for it's use. Like NY State companies like FORD stopped car leases as when a Ford car which is leased get's involved in an accident in which someone dies, Ford as the "owner" of the car is held liable by the courts. Yeah I know inexplicably stupid Law, but it's the Law on the books. So in these circumstances Ford get's sued and has to pay up. So the dropped out of car leases in NY State. So is this Lady, who owns the PC, in a State which holds the "owner" liable for all uses of a product she, presumably, has bought?
Despite how anyone feels and even how irritated the Judge is, at the high handedness of the RIAA, the Judge will ultimately Rule on the basis of Law in that State (or Federal Jurisdiction) and NOT on how irritated she is by in court behavior.
It makes NO business sense for Google to buy Skype for Billions of their own currency.
Google has already millions of customers and they need "product".
Skype has millions of customers also who pay $10mm a year in Total Revenue as Skype struggles to move from a "free" product line to a "Revenue creating" product line. There is clearly resistance buy all those "free" customers.
Far Far better for Google to BUY another VoIP company with an established and decent technology, a name in VoIP and innovative products. But this company needs to become big time and needs access to friendly sources of potential customers w/o having to pay the hundreds and hundres od millions which Vonage is paying.
I could tell you which company (s) I am thinking of (not many) which fit this description. But I already placed my bet....
...which has a chip inside. If not used at least once everyday the chip will issue a recall signal and the Feds will come and collect you.
This way we get to track all visitors while the daily expenditure also gives an economic lift to the economy.
The chip remembers the days allowed in the US and also gives off a signal when beyond that date. It also requires increased expenditure each subsequent week while the Feds find you. Again this raises the economic benefit to the US.

Why does the FCC not require such an "acceptance" for people using a POTS line only? ANd threaten to discontinue the POTS line if an "acceptance" does not come?
While POTS can be pretty stable it is not 100% perfect. On my Street our lines go underground and Verizon keep chopping the budget to upgrade the lines (30+ years old). Many houses here have to keep calling for service on their lines and I gave up on receiving a DSL signal years ago.
Conclusion: It is unfair for the FCC to require this "acceptance" ONLY for VoIP customers.

Also if you are a non citizen it will screw up ANY hope of achieveing US Citizenship, because the person has been charged with an offense which carries a possible penalty of more than one year in prison. It might possibly trigger deportation proceedings.
P8 costs $19.95 p.m. + 50 Cents Tax + $1.50 == $22.00 still extrememly competitive and has good international rates.
I took my P8 device on an overseas trip for 4 weeks. On arrival I hooked the dta into the broadband rounter and instantly got a dial tone on my phone. What a great convenience. I disconnected the simultaneous ring service to my cell phone and instead used P8's Voice Mail. I called by family and friends (from Singapore) and they could not tell that I was 1/2 way around the world.
the Regulatrory recovery fee is explained by P8 on their website. Not as a fee, for which they need reimbursement, but that recently all VoIP companies have come under increased scrutiny and they are putting resources basically responding to a lot of questions and likely spending money on Lawyers. Hence I don't see this fee as unreasonable, right now. Hopefully once the VoIP business becomes more "standard" then they can remove the fee. Still they are extremely competitive and convenient and are seldon "down".
Absolutely the USA does deny entry to its own citizens w/o a passport.
A friend of mine was born in NYC and his laft left and went back to Ireland when he was 10 days old. Consequently he never had a US Passport, he had an Irish Passport.
At age 50 he flew to NYC and was denied entry and put on the first plane back to London (where he embarked from). The reason given was that as he was a US Citizen (by birth) he MUST enter the USA with an American Passport. So he had to front up at the American embassy in the UK and apply for a US Passport, for the first time in his life. They granted the Passport and back he flew to the USA and received the "Welcome home, Sir".
Knowing that this series could re-emerge into a several series run why on earth would the BBC not have an option on this character for multiple years of the series. He is after all the NINTH Dr.
Who dropped the ball, Auntie Beeb lives after all.
.....They borrowed Dr Who's Police Box and went back in time to catch the culprit loading the episode onto the internet.
In a rather weird coincidence they bumped into SG1 who were searching for a lost Star Gate in Canada.
It's always going to be a problem with so many unobservant drivers around.
A couple of years ago I was returning, on my bycicle from a work out at the local ymca gym. I was too tired to push so was freewheeling down hill at around 20 mph. A lady came over a much more minor roadover a white line (coming from the library) her daughter saw me (from the passenger seat directly in front of me) and screamed. What did the mother do? She slammed on the brakes right in front or me, while I was a locked up projectile. I will never for get that girl's look of horror.
I have no idea how, but i gave up braking and flung the bike LEFT and squeezed past her car and a parked car with what seemed no space. I finally came to rest, pulse rate about 250++ wondering how I was still w/o broken limbs and a broken bike. Of course the lady had put pedal to the metal and was fast disappearing up the Hill and gone.
I called the Police and requested that they put a larger stop sign and white line to give others a more sporting chnce in the future. Unbelieably it took about 9 months, but the signs and new paint work arrived:)
During the 1960s, Velocette Motorcyle company of England produced a water cooled , hoizontally oppesed 200cc flat twin, clothed in metal weather proofing called the LE. For obvious reasons this bike (used by Polica a lot) was nicknamed the "whispering death".
This is supposed to be a tech info site. So if you put up a thread about "free ice cream", re google's birthday, you should expect posts making a joke. Moderators lack a proper proportional sense of humor IMHO.

Pretty sad that posts containing contructive comments ( some might say criticism) are regarded as Troll though.
Defn:
"A troll is deliberately crafted to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy. A troll is a time thief. To troll is to steal from people. That is what makes trolling heinous.
Trolls can be identified by their disengagement from a conversation or argument. They do not believe what they say, but merely say it for effect.
Trolls are motivated by a desire for attention by people and can't or won't acquire it in a productive manner."
I do not believe I was guilty of any of these:)
