If everyone posts stupid things on their blogs (which is FINE...) then there is a big chance that manager-types will also be guilty. Long-term, this can only causes a long-needed shift in "Corporate Culture".
(The funny thing about "corporate culture" is that it's self-inflicted. Every suits-type feel the need to wear a stupid tie, but all (almost...) agree it's stupid...)
I say, post whatever you want on your blogs, or anywhere. Being turned down from a job (you wouldn't like anyway, if the managements are such assholes) isn't as bad as not doing things you enjoy (or ranting on the web about it) because you want to fit in.
But although it looks depressing, I believe as a new generation of managers emerge this actually gets better. There *is* a choice not to work for assholes. I've been turned down from a few jobs because of tattoos but to me it always was a filter for shallow, control-freak managers and good dudes.
As long as you don't "suck it up" there is a chance of a change.
I never thought I would actually "defend" myspace... but there I go.
There's ONE thing about myspace that is awesome and its the "bands" page. So many websites have tried to give exposure to smaller bands, etc (mp3.com, soundclick...) but none have succeeded like myspace did.
I discovered 100s of small (really small) bands through this system. My own band has also been discovered by 1000s of people. We actually get request from people who wants to see us play in their cities - 1000s of miles away.
In the 90s (before myspace...) no one outside our city would have ever heard about us.
But yea, the pages *do* suck. But it seems like the favorite place for younger teenagers on the web... exactly because they can put all that crap content on their own small personal space.
Which is the whole problem. We're not into paperwork, especially not of the legal kind. I'm talking about a very small project (about a 1000 Cds) but the problem is that we're not alone. There are 100s of band the same situation. That's not counting all the legal backups every company in this country do every day... I believe all the money they make out of this is ILLEGAL and IMMORAL. I dont get to pay the writer's guild for every sheet of papaer made?
You can get a discount (or maybe not?) but that's a hassle, a hassle I shouldnt go through because I want to produce MY OWN music.
Not replying to you or anyone, just publicly venting off:)
The problem isnt about the money. I dont care if a cd goes 1$ more expensive, but I sure dont want the CRIA (or anyone else) to get that money they dont deserve1
If he did it to commit heresy than that's bad.
This is getting offtopic but its late already: I don't see how voicing one opinion about religious matter can be bad. I seriously would like to know why "commit heresy" is bad, especially because I dont feel like I'm a bad person but would be considered to "commit heresy" every seconds by some people (yours?) standard.
If he feels strongly against something and make art (yea, yea...) out of it, how can it be bad? I mean, it's "expression" at its core...
I play in a small punkrock bands. We produce everything "D.I.Y." which means we burn all our CDs on blank CDs and sell them for 3$.
We don't care about the CRIA. We don't care about their crap and we don't want to be on their labels. It seems they'll still have a cut off of every CDs we produce... awesome.
What this article doesnt tell, though (but the newsforge reports do) is that the presenter spent most of the presentation telling the audience how Intel was using Linux everywhere...
Cheesetracker, on Linux. (it kind of try to be IT (impulse tracker) with a modern interface)
And it's also very easy even for non-musician to play with and have almost-decent result. (Not something you would sell, but definately fun time creating sounds/music -- which should be the point anyway)
They were concerned that there were limitations for women in this area of technology, and they felt there is a stigma associated with IT in terms of it not being a very exciting place to work.
So lie to them and tell them otherwise?
I'm not sure wether I'm trying to be funny or not... Just they told me the same things couple of years ago (even tho Im a boy) and I still think that was bulls***
Yes. We've always been at war with East Asia.

The Swiss army has invested a lot in this technology in recent years... :)
No Way...

You were expecting a "web-office" to work without javascript?
However, he bought a piece of hardware. Figured out a way to interface with that hardware, coded it.
Needing an attorney for something like that is a scary thought...

Features != bloat (especially if off by default)
Btw, KDE has had this for years, namely SuperKaramba.
Well this one (the article) worked :)
* (as in speech)
(yes, its funny... but true)
Impressive stuff. It *will* be misused but I was really impressed by the tehcnology displayed, and the spped the application ran at...
It could really well be NerdRadio, since there is absolutely nothing happening on the screen but that guy's lips moving.
For +1h.
Save your bandwidth and get the Ogg audio version.
Everywhere but their presentation, it seems
Note: I wasnt there so I really dont know...
(Until we follow you guys)

Seems like a very good idea for a blog!
2004 survey...
how does gay marriage takes my freedom away?
I know there are at least two open source implementation of HTML editors.
See wikiwig for an example...
In your example, we got GPL Qt...

I believe this is quite possible...
That doesn't nullify skepticism about vapourware, though :)
