Most of the images i send have comedic tones, and after your 10 minute solution, it really isn't funny anymore.

This works. This is not running inside of vmware. This is running directly on hardware. No salt needed. I have this running on a dell computer right now. All you need to do is take the vmware image floating around the internet, and use dd to image it to a drive. Boot from the drive and it works.. Requirements include an SSE2 enabled cpu, that would be most p4's and amd64 and higher. Rosetta requires SSE3, so without that you get no ppc apps. Newer p4's using the .90nm process will have SSE3. Make sure you have a great Video card as well soyou have Quartz Extreme running. It is also possible to patch the install dvd and install strait to the hardware. But the Vmware image is the easiest to do. You dont even need vmware, just download the vmware image, and use linux or knoppix to dd it over to a blank drive. The next few weeks should be fun :) Compliant hardware on Ebay is going for $225 or so. Not bad.

  15. Apple stores are just better on Memo to Apple: Respect Your Resellers · · Score: 4, Insightful

Have you ever BEEN to a non apple store? Its terrible. I'm in Richmond, Va, and we have 2 third party stores and they are terrible, they provide no service, and charge an arm and a leg.

Before we got our apple store my favorite reseeller was Compusa, how sad is that. Because the other 2 are so bad. If they want to compete maybe they should bring their Harddrive prices down a bit and memory prices, they price like apple. Its insane, $220 for 512megs of ram, and $180 for a 120 gig hard drive.

The other thing is the speed at which they get and stock their products. Not only do they get new products about a month after they are out, they don't even have anything in the back to BUY. They keep no stock on hand. You go to buy a powerbook and they tell you you'll get it in a week. WTF.

In my opinion the Apple Stores are just better, they may be doing some shady things, thats up to the courts to decide, but they are all around a better store for me, the customer. If the resellers want to compete, compete, not everything they have in their stores are controlled by an Apple price policy, get some deals inside, and don't charge me for a repair when my stuff is under warranty (another story for another time).

actually, considering Os X pipes its graphics through the 3d card using openGL via Quartz Extreme, a fast graphics card with lots of memory actually counts for something in what you call the "2D" part of the Os. With windows, everything is just 2D so 3d cards don't matter if you're not playing games. This isn't the case with Apple Computers. We can actually use those 3D cards for something while not playing games.

I think it should be noted that: The software is now called HYMN for Hear Your Music aNywhere. The software has now made it so that while the DRM is stripped it KEEPS the AppleID inside of the song so that the original song can be traced back to its original owner if it were to show up on a p2p network. I think this is totally important and a GREAT stance for HYMN to take. While it allows fairuse of the songs to let us play them on Linux, 3rd party players, and Xbox Media Center, it still keeps copyright protection in mind. I'm really impressed with the developers for doing this.

  25. i dont get it... on MP3...in Surround Sound · · Score: 3, Insightful

I don't see why they would put the time into their "teenager" codec to put surround sound support into it. Especially when mp3 is mainly used for music and isn't technically for video. Where as they could have spent the time to hammer out multichannel support for aac, so then mpeg4 would have multichannel support. So then they'd have a codec for video AND a codec used for just audio with multichannel support. The only thing i see this good for is Xvix and Divx videos. While these can be encoded with AC3 5.1 support, its rare that anyone does it. They usually opt for VBR MP3 with an average bitrate of 192k. So now it looks like they can use mp3 still and get the 5.1 Cmon mplayer! make sure you get support fast.. my xbox needs it!
