  1. Re:Satellite Radio is sooooo 2002. on XM And SIRIUS Radio Merging · · Score: 4, Insightful

Yeah I have to agree with your other replier. Thats great that you don't find a need for satellite radio (I mean it saves you money right?) but others of us have a good need for it. First off the truckers and professional drivers who are looking for consistent radio coverage no matter where they are driving. But ontop of that those of us looking for specific niche channels. Howard Stern fans, Opie and Anthony fans... general sports fans (for instance you can probably get all of your local sports team's games on your local radio, but what if you like a out-of-state team, or you like listening to any game possible). There are comedy channels (24/7 stand-up routines), news channels (CNN, CNN Headline, FoxNews, BBC WorldNews). Satellite really does offer up a lot of options for those not only interested in music.

In terms of music-only listening I think you make a great point, but satellite offers much more than just music.

You nailed it. I completely agree with you. First thing i thought, without reading the article, was "What was the average age of the person polled?"

Back in high-school, first thing I would've asked someone i just met is "So what do you listen to?" And i thought I was so smart because I would build a personality around this person based on what kind of music he/she listened to. Today, now that I'm out of a school, working and married, I could give a damn about what someone else listens to.

  4. Liked it better than GoW on Lost Planet - Extreme Condition Review · · Score: 1

Wow, guess I'm outnumbered but I'm enjoying Lost Planet more than GoW at the moment. I was just so tired of the dark, brown, enclosed world of gow, that a white, blue, open world of LP was a nice change. And I laugh when i see people talking about how bad the storyline is. Sure, its pretty cheesy, but good lord GoW's script was just plain awful. I'm not complaining mind you, I just hope the people say the same thing about GoW though.

When you're firing your gun there is some level of auto aiming, at least at the level I'm playing. I guess you could call it cheap and makes it too easy but I enjoy it. I'll admit i'm a bit spastic with the controller on a console FPS, so i enjoy the change. Also the fact that mechs are all over the place, you really get a different game experience from it. Whereas GoW, you're always pressing A to hide behind the next whatchamacallit.

I'm not far along at all, so maybe it'll get to me after awhile. The mission 3 boss took me for freakin' ever. Lots of swearing and things being thrown later, I beat her, and what can i say, I felt a level of satisfaction i haven't felt from a game in awhile.

I do admit the knocking down and getting back up thing can be really frustrating. Especially when the same boss has beaten you for 30 minutes straight and you just want a goddamn chance to win. But when its just here or there, I enjoy the realism of it. Somethings rising, you get knocked down, it takes awhile to get back up. Fair enough, thats the game play.

Also read someone else mention the "pretty smoke." Wow... I think the explosions in this game are the best looking graphics i've seen on a console yet. Personally I enjoyed being surrounded by the smoke of a boss's rocket having no clue which way is up, until I run out of it.

Meh, obviously its not for everyone. It does surprise me though that its getting canned on slashdot, I thought it was decent. I guess I'm an idiot. In summary if you're an idiot too, give the game a shot, I, your fellow idiot, enjoyed it.

And when Gore comes out with a movie with a scene of a polar bear struggling to get onto a floating piece of ice, with a voice-over of the horrors of global warming and how we're all doomed, no one cries scare tactics at all.

I guess it'd be egotistical to hope that both sides will mod me a Troll. But come on, there are others out there that see it like I do right? Because they have the market by the balls
You're saying they (MPAA?) have the market by the balls? They are the market. They are Hollywood. Of course people want to work for them because they have money and they give people fame.

you'd see a FLOOD of people leaving Hollywood to work for Joe Blow because Joe Blow can do it just as good
You mean if like Trenton OH was the new hotspot for movie making, people would flock there? Isn't that robbing Peter to pay Paul? Joe Blow isn't going to want to get ripped off either. And if you're talking like indies, indies make money, and you know why actors act in them for so little money?! BECAUSE THEY WANT SOMEONE IN HOLLYWOOD TO SEE THEM!

What it sounds like you're saying, to me at least, is that if ... when someone... forget it, I have no idea what you're saying.

Like some other repliers pointed out its good in theory but probably won't work or happen in the real world... why give away games people might otherwise buy. On the other hand, what about special Themes or GamerPics that are free to download after certain thresholds, 1000, 2500, 5000 or something like that. Minimal cost for microsoft to create and it gives a little weight to the achievements.

Yet again, people are already going after high scores just for bragging rights so why would they need to give anything away?

They can now dual boot their shiny PS3 into Linux.

While I agree that its a neat ability with the PS3, thinking in pure numbers, this can't attribute more than a tiny tiny fraction of the console buying public.

You could argue the other side too, I have a computer, i don't need a browser on my tv, all I want is games and to stream my photos/videos, why pay more for some things I won't ever use.

But again i'm not trying to be argumentative. You're exactly right, some people will buy the ps3 because they can load linux on it. Some people will buy the 360 because they will soon be able to play the same game with their PC-only friends. And some will buy the Wii because of the controller... its all personal preference and we still have at least a year before we get some hints at who the "winner" will be.

The silliness in your elitist comment is that the two are not mutually exclusive. You can get most films on dvd now and if you're saying you'd rather watch a film on vhs than a 480p version on dvd and that over a true HD disc; you're either stuck in the past, or horribly ignorant on the differences between the three.

Now if you're only commenting on their selection, then all you've done is state what everyone knows. Of course someone would rather watch a good movie than a bad movie... so bravo to you Captain Obvious.

Shared directories are all controlled via Media Connector on the PC as opposed to having to customize a configuration file, which may be difficult for those non-IT folks. So yeah i think its more seamless. I was a user of both as well. But now theres no need for me to use XMBC. You enjoy it more. Great, good on ya.
