Thanks for posting, I was getting sick of all the "terrorists already won!" posts. Some people doesn't quite see it no matter how hard you try to explain. Anyway, one more try: It's all about preserving status quo and power.
In a democracy, in order to preserve the status quo, you need to control your worst enemy, the people. The very same people a president runs the white house for, becomes the biggest threat to him as soon as he reaches the charge. Because they are the ones that can kick him out in the next election.
There's an inherent flaw in democracy: The majority rules, whether that majority is right or wrong.
So, as a president, how do you steer the country to YOUR OWN goals? You just need to make the majority think you are doing things right. And that, sadly, is a very easy thing to do when you are at war or facing an external threat, whether it's real or imaginary. So all you need to do is to "educate" people with a twisted view of the reality to make them support an action that would appear insane in other context. You just need bad education and that's it.
I don't want to turn my post into an ad, because it might lower the impact of the previous words but I think this is very important to reinforce my point. Wether the reader agrees or not with my opinion, I encourage you all to play Democracy (http://www.positech.co.uk/democracy/), specially if you do not agree with what I'm saying. Democracy is a simulation game where you run a country. As you play it, you'll learn two things: 1 - Running a country and keeping everybody happy is very very difficult. 2 - You'll soon discover that you'll have to apply policies contrary to your believes in order to keep the people voting for you because that's what the majority thinks.
BTW I have nothing to do with that company or the game. It's just I think that game can teach more than years in high school about how the world works.
It's not that the filters evolved. Nigerian royalty finally allocated their fortune all over the world, letting millions get rich in the process by hosting their money in their personal accounts, and got out of the country escaping a brutal, oppressing, regime. Happy ending for everybody.
The problem with these measures is that they filter out the wrong part of the spectrum. People that has nothing to lose, that travels to become an "illegal" immigrant keep going, same with terrorists or any other evildoer. While the regular and "legal" tourists or workers think twice before traveling.
I agree. Now, a big part of the problem isn't you screaming what you consider private. Is that you can't control a crowd of known idiots shouting in public every little detail they know about you. Specially when such sites as Facebook don't require your authorization when other people post about you. Regardless of your authorization, if they post it, "they" know. On the other hand, if you don't appear at all in any social site, that would sure make you a prime suspect to any NSA agent who would and should order further research on your social habits, probably digging more deep than you would ever wanted to.
I Totally agree. I'll never forget when I mixed all the ingredients, and put the corked tube on direct fire. That way I've learned at a very young age the famous "When everything else fails, read the manual".
For an extra $200 you can get it with the Whac-A-Robot upgrade. The robot hides for a random time lapse and the n pops up talking like you see on the video for you to blast it with the provided hammer in the next second. That'll sure keep you alert and happy.
Then, you should feel much better. Mission accomplished! In fact, that's what's they were supposed to do. Get drivers punches. That would be so much stress relieving than having to engage in conversation with it, we have enough non-wanted chat with our wives.
The other (dark) side of the coin is the producers have to buy new seeds from them every single season. I'm not aware of the current status but it wouldn't surprise me if the 2007 seeds wouldn't work for 2008. It's a lock-in mechanism to maximize profit.
How will they tell whether the system is working correctly or not? What if it predicts a ton of outcomes that never happen? Will it be considered reliable if the predictions happen?
So, it (or its constructors) could make sure the predictions happen. If they don't, it'd seem like a waste of money. So, it predicts a flash mob, and at the same time, it starts it. Like a baby Skynet.
Besides all technical inaccuracies on the movie, besides watching him drive by in his limousine and fly over Katrina in his private jet while he tells you to use a bicycle and public transportation (I hated that), besides he was vice president when the US was at war and besides the political bias that wraps it, his work is why we are all[*1] here talking about climate change. It rose awareness about a topic that concerns us all. It made the topic mainstream. So, although the "peace" word doesn't fit that exactly, I think it's the right thing. It doesn't matter WHO wont it (don't forget the IPCC), but what are the news talking about today.
"for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"
*1 - By all I refer not to the/. crowd, I refer to everyone, from taxi drivers and the guy at the grocery store to politicians.
You are not thinking outside of the box. The door is obviously there to protect the data from an imminent zombie attack while preserving all the biometric gear from the nuke's EMP used to wipe out the zombies.
This is why you shouldn't buy any VAIO computer with a CD/DVD/Whatever drive, as they are tools for evil doers. Punish those sneaky pirates where it hurts them most!!

As long as they are static, newspaper-like ads and not a flashy bonzi buddy dancing in your face, I'm OK with it.
Not even enough to do some time travel! Any idiot know that the flux capacitor requires 1.21 gigawatts!
I demand my Mr. Fusion!
I mean, my other nickname is Ballmer. Who knew?
Don't want any MS OS at all.

That's why real cops, like Mad Max, use 1973 Ford Falcons XB Coupe, V8 351 with explosives attached.
Not sure it if has electronic control but I had to say it.

5. Who knows you.

He is just desperately trying to be a cool guy. You get it? Cool.
A much better project would be to overclock your liver so you can maximize your alcohol drinking limits. No more designated drivers!

He also was singing in spanish. Don't miss it.
