  1. I'm just glad to know... on Misophonia: Scientists Crack Why Eating Sounds Can Make People Angry (bbc.com) · · Score: 1

...that this condition is being studied at all. I've had this for as long as I can remember; my sister has it too. Trying to rationalize it away by telling yourself "this response is completely irrational and is all in your head" does nothing to help. When we were kids, family meals were fraught with negative emotion. The table was a cold war between our parents on either end and the only sounds were of people eating. I still wonder if that experience was a contributor or a coincidence.

Those are the classic symptoms, yes. I don't know about the loud music part though- that's not something I've ever experienced. Interesting thought though, that they might be related.

Maybe you're a libertarian wanker gone too far. Or maybe you're just stupid. The arguments you're complaining about have nothing to do with "giving up freedom for security". This guy didn't go to the library and read some books that the government finds threatening. He didn't go on the internet and read about explosives. He didn't publicly protest something he didn't like (risking getting photographed and cataloged). What he did was deliberately risk the lives of everyone he shared the road with on his 3000 mile odyssey of irresponsibility. He fully deserves the condemnation he's getting in this forum. You deserve a dope-slap.

  12. Som parts should be free on Should Apple make .Mac free? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Apple should make the following components free: email, synchronization, limited disk (say 20M) for iWeb, storage, backup, etc. If I needed it, I wouldn't mind paying extra for storage beyond 20M. It irks me to pay $99 per year to (easily) synchronize contacts and calendar between my multiple macs. Synchronization should be free because I've been a good customer and bought enough (two) machines to need the service in the first place.

I switched to linux a few years ago but switched again (to a Mac and OS X) about a year later. The amount of time I spent making things work was frustrating and irritating. Sure, it felt better than being beholden to Microsoft and the challenge was fun for a while, but in the long run I decided that my productivity was more important than wondering why my kernel doesn't support 'X' or why I can't get that piece of hardware to work. I continue to run Linux on our servers (for database and email) and boy-oh-boy is that ever better than dealing with the Windows platform. I can, for the most part, just leave that stuff alone and it works and works well. But for day-to-day desktop work, I'd be pretty reluctant to go back, even if I do have to give Steve Jobs $180 dollars every year or so to stay current.

Stool accumulates and gets, well, enormous. Benefiber mixed in his food and two capsules daily of DSS stool softener help my cat maintain somewhat regular bowel function. It's definately something that should be treated; the longer you let it go the worse it gets, and if it goes to far surgery is the only option.
