Forgive my ignorance, but why on earth would anyone want RAID on their laptop? If you really need to protect your data, nightly backups should be quite sufficient.
From the Article:
"...give faster performance via striping."
This is about a fast laptop not redundancy. You can have it if you want it, but the point of 2.5ghz, GeForce 7800, and RAID is for speed speed speed and probably games games games.p.
The RAID support is for stripping.
Yeah. I know. But (before recent years) the clock speeds got a nice boost also. One year we had 66mhz 486 (intel) then 18 months later we had 133mhz 486 (amd) and Pentium 60mhz and 90mhz that just so happen to have improved performance.
So through clock speed or architecture I would love to see those performance gains again. Even if they were an accidental side effect or transistor shrinkage;)
To be fair, Slashdot editors take a break from telling us about Firefox milestones every once in a while to give us the news that someone at Google just farted.
Some at Google farted? Yeah right. That's just rumor and speculation. I suppose they are buying an instant messaging company too?
I'll believe someone farted at google when THEY announce it. Otherwise who ever smelt it...
xp 3200+ and a 6600GT..., and it plays anything flawlessly with all details up. Hardware lasts a lot longer than people tend to think.
For those who you may be confused: the 6600GT is less than a year old.
I'd bet you haven't had it for more than 6 months.
Also anything with all details up is very subjective and wrong.
For instance Battlefield 2 at 1600x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF is not playable/enjoyable on your video card. It wil give you maybe 10 frames a second.
Those are very high settings, but you said "anything with all details."
Video cards do no last long if you want to see the nicest visuals of the newest games.
But yes, the 6600GT is an awesome card and very well priced!
As for the processor... well I just upgraded from a 3000 xp to A64 3700 and in video games I really only notice faster load times and maybe a very very small frame rate increase.
The rate of change in video card technology today is how CPUs used to be.
Seems you can get away with holding your CPU for a couple more generations than you can video cards.
A 3200 xp with a 6600GT is a very nice gaming machine though and you pay a hell of a lot more for anything better.
You all know these points, but I will list them anyway.
1.) Movies make tons of money off sequels that may not give the same emotion as the original hit.
2.) Technological Advances are usually a very very attractive feature without having the game being identical otherwise (cept Doom 3 which was technically a very sweet redo minus the original emotion for most)
3.) There are always new kids/buyers to sell to and nobody wants to buy old games or watch old movies. Maybe the hairstyles turn people off;)
You may agree or disagree, but I believe these are obvious points.
Certainly. Also keep in mind that Bill Gates et al. never intended to make good software. They saw an emerging market with a lot of potential and wanted to make mony fast. It just so happened that they were extremely good at it. The rest is history.
The rest is history? What do you mean? Come on dude! Don't leaving me hanging. What happened?
Intel Developing Ultra-Low Power Chips= Intel Developing Ultra-sLow Power Chips
You mean like the same way it crushed Microsoft, the music industry and the movie industry?
Even with crappy products they succeed.
In that case sign me up for Apple stock.
"Hey, Johnson tap that connection over there to copy the data stream."
ZAAAAAAPPPP!!!!! EWWWOAH!!
"Enemy APC Spotted!"
"We've got company overhead!"
oh my bad... you said said European army. Not in BF2.
Have you graduated here yet My Wife.
My point: How far do you actually take the openness?
How far and how much is too much?
You and I both know what country we live in so you have to expect (not accept) these conservative views.
And with supreme court changes it isn't going to get better for you.
I bet these chicks could give KFC Execs an Erection!
In Louisiana on the beach is where Rosie... oh nevermind.
Try to imagine life with no chainsaw!
Id really is a different kind of game company.
"There can be only one!"
"If your head comes away from your neck, it's over!"
Stop. You had me at Hello.

We've been able to lower the power consumption by 5 times, but really cannot make a "faster" processor?
So now laptops will have a super longer battery life and that's good.
Maybe you'll need less fans and thats good.
But what I really want is double the performance every 18 months like the old days.
NOISY FANS BE DAMNED!
You're right. My bad.
AMD will react the same way ATI and Nvidia react to each other: Keep improving over each other just enough to make sure consumers have to keep buying.
But never never never come out with some thing so revolutionary that breaks the industry cycle.
We no longer own. We only rent our hardware until it's obsoleted via software or no more hardware upgrades.
I for one love my tech, but it would be nice to see something real disruptive come along.
No more forced motherboard changes, etc...
Why couldn't Nvidia make SLI with two AGP slots? Why so many different sockets for CPUs?
Guess we gotta fund all the new goodness somehow :)

Yep. You never see your cpu enemies bunny hopping like little bitches to prone.
Bunny hopping is so damn stupid that it actually works. Unless rockets are involved ;)
And BTW: I've tried strafing left and right five feet at 100 miles/hours and it's impossible. I pulled a hammy.
I would appreciate AI emulating how people actually play.
