We have to add mandrake 'cooker/unstable' mirrors to get a mandrake rpm of the current gaim, or firefox. Whereas in Fedora the new release of gaim, firefox, etc are updated when you update your system, in their main mirrors- not unstable. Anyways that's my one big complaint with Mandrake. - A Mandrake user
Mandrake 'automounts' usb drives in the same fashion. Mandrake does not check a floppy drive every 30 seconds, nor have I ever had any error messages with a floppy drive after 3 years of using Mandrake.
I would say that Xandros is easier to pop in the disk and install, but Mandrake's urpmi is nicer than most other distros- much more software available to easily install. Mandrake has Gnome, also. I don't know if Xandors is KDE-only?

send out gnoppix/ubuntu livecds to media with late 2.9 releases and a
nice little 'here is what is so cool about gnome' pamphlets. If we can
do that for 2.10 we'll go a long way towards recapturing some of the
buzz we had.
Doesn't he mean Gnome 3.0? Or 2.9.2 or something? Someone help me out on how version numbers go.
Apple has made more efficient processors for the Mhz, so I'm glad others are seeing similar benefits. I just wish Apple's desktops weren't so overpriced!
Yet other companies produce mac versions of most popular games. So if that little % is worth the trouble, why not Linux? I think it will happen really soon.
I mean something like this. You can't compare Lilypond or others to Sibelius. It's just like me saying I use Adobe Photoshop for my profession, and someone replying to say, "Have you tried Mario Paint?"
We need something like Sibelius in Linux. I would in fact pay for a Linux version of Sibelius (I've emailed and told the company that). And no- Note Edit or Rosegarden are not notation programs. Saying so is as ridiculous as saying pico is a Linux equivalent of MS Word.
You can make and edit electronic music on Linux, Mac, or Windows (which is what this guy does it looks like). But for notation: only Mac or Windows unfortunately.
SP2 slowed down the crap out of my 1.8-M Celeron laptop. Takes a LONG time to boot now. (I was actually so frustrated with windows altogether that I just sold that laptop and got an iBook!)

Yeah wtf! That interview makes him seem all tech-savy.
Could almost be another one of "them rumors going around on the InternetS..."
If you are a lucky G5 owner,
:-)
You mean a rich G5 owner...
For a the low price of $967.18 you can buy it now!

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know of an open source AVI or MPEG editor for Windows or Linux? Thanks.
You actually do want to link a torrent link. It's helpful.

Whoa this is crazy! DEBIAN has Gnome 2.8 in one of their releases before Mandrake? Come on, Mandrake folks- give us Gnome 2.8! Puh-leese! :)
$2500-$3000 is too expensive for a computer, when you can make an AMD 64 system for under $1000. That's my only mac gripe.

BF1942, Doom3 (before Linux release), and other games work just as fast as in windows. Believe it or not.
What about a winamp version for mac? Please?
This might help a little. I haven't tried it, so no promises.

I'm sure, but you are still comparing pico to MS Word, or Mario Paint to Photoshop.

If I remember correctly, Firefox 1.0 was going to replace the browser componet in the Mozilla Suite. Can anyone else clarify?
You mean the thingy for that thing call the internets?
What about the troops, and other us citizens who are living in other countries, who have a vote?
... and I use IE exclusively.
*sob* Why?
Yeah, looks like no OS X version. And this is posted in the Apple section.... *D'oh!*
