During the sixties it brought down the state monopoly that only had old chums debating on the airwaves. It brought music to the airwaves. Not so bad for arr pirate!
Okay... So you sell a Internet connection with 1Mbit with a flat price. And people actually USE it? Not any fun?
Do what the ISPs do in Sweden - upgrade. 1, 2,5 and 10Gbit backbones are everywhere around here. If they were to throttle connections there would be a riot over here. Blocking / Throttling is a stupid idea. Feh.
I reside in Stockholm, Sweden and get about 13/1 Mbit from my provider (Bredbandsbolaget - litteraly the Broadband Company) thru DSL. It's not from the Landline-operator (Telia). I pay 399 sek, which is roughly $50 including VAT. There are cheaper operators, but I like the fact that I don't have DHCP. Prices go down to about 299 SEK ($40).
I don't really know anyone surfing with less than 8Mbit either... 0,5Mbit isn't very popular here... It's dirt cheap though, $20.
Much of the progress Sweden has seen in pricing and speed has been due to the goverment giving subsidies for building in rural areas and because Bredbandsbolaget seemed to make it their business to give everyone 10Mbit (this was about 6-7 years ago) thru Ethernet. A year ago they upped all their customers (Ethernet-customers) to 100/10... Thanks!
Beta isn't really dead... Sure, it failed for consumers, but it's professional version, Betacam, the defacto standard at TV-stations. The newest version supports HDTV and the tapes and equipment is in most cases backwards compatible.
Hmm... I'm seeing more and more of stupid crap coming from North America, especially ISPs. Buying a connection and getting a limit? Bull. Buying a connection and getting throttled? Bull. Taking payment for mail? Bull. Breaking DNS? Bull. Subscumbing to crazy-people - no.xxx. Bull. Making content-providers pay for getting good thru-put? Bull.
"With a bit of ranting, whining, and over all dislike for the dreaded stuff we need to fix every day."
I browsed the forum for 2 minates, and the ONLY thing I could find was ranting, whining and genuine dislike to anything. Why is slashdot even posting about their forum when the story's about podcast? In short, their forum wasn't newsworthy (I'm not sure the podcast is either though)!
this kinda reminds me of a guy made a small powerplant for his stream... He actually got money back from the powercompany as he was now supplying instead of drawing power:) hellacool... I wonder if this will be the same case?
Maybe he shouldn't be making a profit while doing something illegal? I heard that was a sure way to get busted... Just like selling Illegal software vs downloading...
What is it exactly that makes the quality worse? Is the ink less good? You would think they could fix that and add a buck or two - and still slap the HP and Lexmark on their fingers...

I'm never going back to an old-style keyboard... Using Logitechs Ultraflat keyboard... I type faster, with less strain, and am more comfortable while doing it. Did I mention it costs 30 bucks and is the same type of keyboard you find on laptops?
no other cost-cutting comes close to cutting jobs. It costs a boatload to hire people. Not just in salery, you have vacation, workspace, pc-stuff, companycars, etc, etc... This is exactly what Swedish Ericsson had to go thru a couple of years ago - laying of half of it's staff.
I remember that MS had a fix for this (for laptops etc)... Which just made Windows wait a duration (~30s)... I call that breaking the OS... Fix the underlying problem. Cause and effect. MS should be kicking the teeth of the harddrive manufactures on pure principle atleast. Because let's face it, if MS wants to do anything, MS will do anything they damn please. This can of course be a good thing from time to time!
What Firefox (and the rest of the suite) is a good way to upgrade the software, without installing everything as a new user would... This is something they really should fix...
True, but it's also true that better codecs come out. Of course, better is in the eye of the beholder, but alot of people seem to enjoy hrhdtv xvid releases more than dvdr for example... It's of course not a good comparison, but saying that we should stop evolving codecs is just plain silly... Keeping the formats open is however another story.
Goverments should force by law open formats to increase interoperability. Would Office be the moneycow it is, if.doc wasn't closed?
Steven Spielberg is a good example? What the hell are you talking about?
:)
Since Saving Private Ryan he has put out loads of movies that were hits. My favorites that comes to mind are:
Catch me if you can
The Terminal
Munich
Band of Brothers
Memoirs of a Geisha
Take it back!

Trying to tell us how Freenode sucks, all I can see reinforces my views on EFnet...
If shit like this ever happened in Sweden, you can bet your ass it would be illegal within a year.

dexadrine is in the amphetamine family... No wonder it keeps you awake, keeps you focused and makes you drop weight... And has some "health issues"
that the cellular penetration rate in Israel is greater than 100% because many people own more than one cellular?

This shit has to stop NOW.
Mod up for link to acts of Gord!
Starts of nice, then I read a horrible, horrible sentence...
"Once the material is downloaded, users can only view it for up to 24 hours before it expires."
What were they thinking?
Yes there was, and it was a fabulous read... Here's a link: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/04/133 7237&tid=172
