I picked up a Yamakasi Catleap a few weeks ago. No dead pixels that I can find. Looks incredible. The chassis appears to be made from cheap plastic but it's not an eyesore or anything. So much real estate!
My CenturyLink 10Mbps DSL in WA State delivers 65ms ping to a Google DNS server. I get 6-7ms ping to their gateway. It's rock solid unless my connection is saturated. They were significantly oversubscribed and were listing our area as having an "outage" for over a year before they finally got our backbone upgraded, but it's amazing now. You can ask them to switch you from Interleaved mode to Fast mode if your line is decent. That can reduce your ping time significantly. But it sounds like they have some other major issue in your area.
I was lucky, I scored a great contact with the central office tech in my area. I'm able to give him timely notification of outages and things, and he is able to provide excellent service through bad times. Their residential customer service is on par with Comcast.
I'd guess he can afford the house because he doesn't throw money away when he doesn't have to. But I agree with pretty much everyone in this thread, including you: Just use the coax to pull new cable. I recently did this in an ancient three story house. It took a couple of hours to do all the runs but it was not really that difficult and saved a LOT of time and effort in the end.
Driving while distracted is already illegal. Telling us exactly how to do everything is not making people any more responsible. Solve the problem by applying existing law using common sense instead of making new laws that are easier to apply.
My mother is an amateur photographer. She has several terabytes of stuff and is constantly complaining about running out of hard drive space for all her photos. Imagine if she was into video. Speaking of video, how many of us have parents or grandparents with dozens of hours of video on tape? Don't you think they would have recorded more if they had access to tiny digital HD video cameras and unlimited storage space? Ease of use is the only reason the "standard consumer" doesn't have multiple terabytes of data, and as we become more savvy and things get easier it will quickly become mainstream.
Limit the armed forces to the high-tech forces that can't be staffed on a volunteer basis plus a training cadre capable of quickly training and equipping large numbers of volunteers for the bulk of the ground forces.
Because this will make us really effective when our troops go up against professional soldiers.
Ubuntu won't "just be windows" because it is free (NOT as in beer). The more I use my 360 and PS3 to try to play media from my PC the more I understand how bad the protected DRM-everything model is for consumers. That's the future of Windows, guys. People are not going to put up with their hardware refusing to do what should easily be able to do as long as there is an alternative that will do everything else too. Convenience is king, and DRM is becoming increasingly restrictive and annoying.
You don't have to play on semantics man. "Safe" search in the case of Google is in the context of work safe or relatively safe from offensive crap. It would take a great idiot to misunderstand that.
Who are you trying to kid? The man is a corrupt politician who was taking kickbacks. He should do hard time in a PMITA prison. It isn't like we're charging him for something he did in his younger, more reckless days. He knew what he was risking, and now he should get what he deserves. Corruption can not be tolerated. Make an example of him. He is in office and we should hold him to a higher standard if anything.
I did say "relatively" casual. I have been playing since a few months after release and have approx 200 days/played time amongst my various toons. I am not a "hardcore raider" but I do have a raid invite any night that I wish to play. What do you do with your leisure time? Many people get home from work and sit down in front of the TV for the rest of the night. When I am not doing something with my band, I choose to spend my time socializing with my friends online.
Blizzard does release free new content quite frequently. Ahn Qiraj, Naxxramus, Sunwell, Zul Gurub, Zul Aman and the upcoming Uldaur are on the short list. I am a relatively casual player and I have spent thousands of hours in those zones over the years. For each expansion there have been at least two major free content patches.
Not that I am a fan boy, the crew Blizzard has maintaining Warcraft right now is just awful and I have canceled my account but this is one area in which Blizzard has treated their subscribers very well. They could have charged $10, $20, maybe $40 for each of those content patches and people would have paid it.
"As long as the bad people have guns, the good people should be allowed to have guns. The bad people will always have guns, thus the good people should always have guns, so they can kill the bad people and protect themselves and their families."
I think you are missing part of the point. If I am to be confronted by a big violent criminal I would much prefer that we both be armed as opposed to both of us being unarmed. He is going to be dangerous with or without a weapon. Without a weapon I do not have a realistic means of defending myself or my wife. I'm not a fighter, with my build I will never be, but anyone can learn proper gun control.
I use ctrl-tab to swap windows all the time and this is a major UI breaking deal for me. I will have to use a plugin or something to revert to the old ctrl-tab functionality. Ctrl-T already opens a new tab. Why mess up what works and is standard in all Windows applications? This is a huge mistake.
This isn't exactly what you are looking for but it's along the same lines, and lots of fun. Costs $109 and you can find lots of nifty howto guides for building gadgets with it on their forums and whatnot. They sell all sorts of servos, stepper motors, buttons, etc to go along with it.
I would think that on top of the benefits of patching running high-uptime servers this would in the long run also result in yet another benefit to running Linux on your desktop instead of Windows. I don't see any reason RedHat, Ubuntu and everyone else wouldn't implement this type of kernel upgrade for convenience' sake.
Bannerman is not my favorite song either, but I like the imagery... the guy that knows he can't change the world but does his little part because it's his thing, does it well, and trusts that the rest will be handled in it's own way. While I can appreciate the Clone/Meltdown era music, I'm not a big fan of the style. The tribute album is so great though. Bride, Sixpence, Starfyler 59, Dighayzeus... just about as much variety as you could ask for. A fitting tribute for one of the best songwriters of the era. His 90s rock was second to none. All of those guys were just amazing. I just wish they had done more. Wade Jaynes in particular is such a talented artist. All of them are outstanding in their own way.
I'm shocked!

I clearly cannot choose the wine in front of me!

Was. Was in office.

Jive server worked like a charm for my company for years. My users loved the Pandion client and were very disappointed when we migrated to GTalk.
We play World of Warcraft together, of course. We can't afford to fly out every weekend for Slashdot-approved tabletop gaming.
Nice troll.

I'm glad somebody else remembers Norton Commander.

Hit 'em hard for freedom's sake, eh?
Yeah... just move to Texas!
