    Instead of just "check engine" ... how about a dashboard that says: "um, excuse me, this is your engine, I'm running OK, but cylinder 4 has poor ignition, probably needs a new spark plug lead." or "Hi, you've cracked a cylinder head, kiss your wallet goodbye."


    never going to happen... they already have those devices (to some extent) at the service station for a reason.

    All over campus, you can find old deceased bikes with wheels bent in 'L' shapes as if they been run over with something heavy. I think it must be the yard work go-cart things or one of the half million construction vehicles roaming around.


    actually it is probably just drunks doing that (taco'd rims). the average bike rim will bend with a little leverage.

    also, i noticed a lot of thefts occured when there was a rain-thunderstorm, as it is harder to see or hear the thieves breaking locks.

    drunk college kids tend to do dumb things to bikes that are left outside...

    if you have to leave your bike outside:

    if your bike has any value, consider buying a beater. replacing a $100+ wheel that was taco'd by some drunk douchenozzles is a bitch, especially if they do it again the next weekend.

    I thought that the movie was a really interesting take on Conrad's "Heart of Darkness".

    I can think of many other movies that were far worse....

    Skyscraper (starring Anna-Nicole)
    Hell Comes to Frogtown (starring Randy Savage)
    Dangerous Touch (written, produced by, starring Lou Diamond Phillips)

    I could go on and on....

    I have an alternative that has probably saved my ass a couple times...

    Carry a pack of smokes. When someone confronts you for cash, or whatever, say you are broke, can't afford a cab, and all you have is a pack of smokes, offer one, wish them a good evening and be on your way.

    hmm... I see the exact opposite where I live. All you see around here are full-size SUVs and trucks.

    I picked up a $29(US) Portland dvd player that has one that is so #*&%ing bright I had to use black duct tape to cover it up. It literally lit up the room while watching a movie with the lights off.

    My biggest beef with them is the kids that put them on their rims and windshield wipers...

    It's sufficiently bad that I have to shut 2 doors between the workroom and the bedroom (not the room doors, ones in-between) so it can't be heard at night...


    It is kinda funny that I have 6 fans in my current AMD box (ps, proc, video, intake, outtake x 2), along with a second media box with 3 more and another router/linux box with 2. I CAN NOT fall asleep without the white noise that they provide. Ever since college, I have slept within a few feet of 2 or more computers, it is odd how you get used to it.

    I sound like a troll, but posts like this make me wonder if Americans don't want to acknowledge the inferiority of QA/Manfucaturing in american cars vs the rest of the world.


    I take it that you have never owned a Hyundai ;) ...fond memories of shifter falling through the floor on the freeway (c-clamped back in place till she was put to rest, transmission locking up in cold weather, having to push-start it on cold days (-10F.), blowing a hole through the quarter pannel with the high pressure sprayer...

    Germany + Japan != rest of the world.

    Did you take time to read the documentation? I have found working with Oracle to be a pleasureable experience. The last 18 months of my employment working with Oracle have been a charm. We have NEVER had an unscheduled outage in that time, thanks to an awesome dba and our unix admin. :) I really love the versitility/scalability/speed/power it provides.

    Nobody ever seems to get this. I have a few friends (quite liberal) in media, mostly in entertainment (although this should apply to all facets). Nothing will ever make it to press without approval from the 'top 10%' as you put it.

    This is kinda ghetto, but you can always make 2 partitions. Set one as active, install Windows, and all the apps you need. Next, set the second partition as active and repeat... If nothing critical is stored locally and you don't make changes to the system, you always have quick backup if Windows chooses to turtle.

    I played a mp3 exactly once on a big club system, and it sounded miserable, hollow, and flat. It was very disappointing.

    I know exactly what you are saying... Not being able to tell the difference on headphones/computer speakers is one thing, but when you are dealing with 10's of thousands of watts and tuned club/event system, there is no way a lossy format is going to cut it.

    As for the home-pressing, that would be nice, but I would miss running down to the record shop, going down in the basement, chatting with the employees and digging through the bins.
