agree. A 3am session only means you sleep 'till noon, and you're basically ok after that (if you ever really were ok...)
The other pastimes you mention tend to get you fired if your workplace has any drug testing in place.
So let's hear it for addictive games!
*sigh* I'm with you. $700 odd dollars of paper route money. It never, ever worked worth a damn. One redeming feature a letter quality daisy wheel printer, and an acceptable word processor.
IIRC I sent it back maybe 4 or 5 times, and got another lemon each time. Shoulda got the C64.
Mmmm - sad that I'm going through this right now.
I was as upfront as possible during the interview process that I wanted a 40h work week. I was assured that 5:00 was quitting time. I wasn't told until after the first week that by showing up at 8:30, I was the last one in by better than an hour!
I find it to be a difficult question to ask. When I've floated it, I generally get the response 'whatever it takes to get the job done'.
This is definitely a priority of mine. I've got young kids, and while I don't mind long hours when necessary, I don't want a scheduled 50h work week.
Posting this from work - good thing I double as IT here!
No, it's not guilty until proven innocent - we already know he's guilty of actually breaking the code of ethics. It's up to him to prove he didn't knowingly break them to save his reputation.
It reminds me of high school law class. I can't remember the term, but the jist of it was that it was against the law to bait wild game while hunting. If the game warden showed up, and there was bait, you can't claim you didn't know it was there. It was your responsibility to scour the area, and make sure there wasn't any there.
I really like the concept, and watched the first season religiously.
After that, it just wore thin. Then when it became a 'put chicks in tank tops, and keep them running' show, my viewing tapered off. If I wanna see that, I'll watch the 590's...(DTV, doncha know)
Mmmm - are you from the Houston area? After the floods they had 3(?) years ago, there was a lot of this going on. And damn weird failures too, not at all limited to electrical.
err...and what if the answer is 'quite a few'?
I can name about half a dozen games 5-10 yr old games that I still play regularly. And as parent's parent mentioned, PBEM that goes through the publisher server is a Bad Thing.
I've played all of two live games of this. The tension when you have a full board is amazing.
Both ended badly, and I seriously saw the begginings of a divorce during one. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything!
I seem to have done this a few times - although I'm surprised something as mature as Cicso routers would require it.
One of the first '3rd party' manuals I wrote was for the error handling features in Visual Workbench 3.0 for the Mac. The documentation that came with it wasn't (documentation).
I don't know if you meant to reply to me or the parent, but you made my point better than I did.
What I was trying to say was that regardless of what purpose you wanted the programmer for, you likely bought one that was marketed as capable of illegal purposes.
So their marketing ends up being the basis for the suit against you. While that may be absurd, they successfully did it for a while.
But bootloaders and unloopers exist solely for the purpose of unscrambling satellite signals.
Maybe, but generally speaking, ALL of the devices sold at those sites are refered to as such. So if you wanted a programmer for legal purposes, chances are you got one that was marketed as a bootloader or unlooper.
The problem I always heard (not a US resident, so I'm not familiar with the legal system...) was that defending yourself even successfully would cost more than the settlement demanded.
While some might 'fight the good fight' many would pony up, and walk away...
Heh - I thought I was the only one that did this! I drive a BMW535, and manage mileage in the mid-30's like this. I've also had people comment that they find my driving very smooth. For me, it's simple...just look a little ahead, see what's coming, and make adjustments.
However, it does drive the wife nuts - but not as nuts as she drives me when she's behind the wheel and doesn't do it!
Probably a Malata or Apex. Start here:

lots of great info on off-brand DVD players.
Here here. Fully agree on the 'obnoxious' thing.
There are several retailers, small and large, that I avoid because I feel this way.

Ouch. That's a good one.
Unfortunately for American's, that might yet be changed to make way for The Guvernator, Arnold!
here here loved it. He had no idea where it was going, but he got it there.

Has it not occured to the above 2 posters that this person is obviously not from NA or Europe? Likely India judging by his nick...

I was like that with Anime Unleashed. ('cept it was DTV and Ultimate TV).
One sleepless night I was surfing at 3am, and saw it. I remember thinking 'this is when this it's on? Wow, does anybody actually see it?'

send one my way if you've got any left...paburatynca@hotmail.obvious

Must...resist...joke about basement! Say hi to your Ma for me when you wander upstairs. Drat. Couldn't stop myself.
Man, I SWEAR I remember an early splash screen with the following text:
Windows NT
New Technology
V 1.0
Than again, maybe I'm just daft...

Ok - this is about the most intelligent thing I've seen on /. in ages, and it was posted by an AC - which of course, makes it even funnier!
Good show.
BMW did that on a bunch of models. My (still running) '87 535 has a bank of 9 LEDs to indicate if various lights on the vehicle are out.
