The Moxi cable box from Charter is always on - theres literally no off switch. The power button on the remote only controls the TV. Its bizarre - why have the box site there and decode HD all day rather than sleep? T least my old DirectTV Tivo had a standby mode. What a big waste of electricity. I wonder how much that costs me every month?
They are not advertising it, but Apple's new laptops have pre-n built in already. There is speculation that pre-n will fuel the iTV and its HD capable HDMI port. Don't you love rumors?
Not a troll. My Verizon 650 crashes every time I start the program. It's on the supported list, oh well...It did manage to do an initial config, but now it just causes the phone to reboot.
Hey, Al Gore's not so bad - he used Apple's Keynote, not Powerpoint. And hot damn that was a good presentation...I wonder what kind of resolution he was running. The setup for that Keynote should be the subject of another Slashdot article!
I can only speak for myself, but my cable company is compressing HD content. I had an OTA antenna and tuner, but ditched it so I could get a moxi pvr. No contest, free OTA signals are way better looking than the cable company's feed.
I found in interesting that PS3 has compact flash and SD card slots, in addition to memory stick. Pretty cool I guess, but I would have only expected Sony's proprietary (and not that expensive anymore) memory stick.
Am I the only one on Slashdot who thinks PS3 will eventually be a huge hit? Look forward 4 years down the line, and I think this console has better chances than Xbox 360 or the Wii (which I have pre-ordered). I'm sure the 360 will eventually have HD-DVD built in BTW.
I liked the freakonmics book quite a bit - so I was interested on their take of the elections. Today's blog is interesting, as well as a post from last year.
In a nutshell, voting is an irrational act in the strict economic sense. The twist is that a large group of people acting irrationally have a rational and useful output. Cool stuff.
There's a new Sirius receiver, the Stiletto. It's a "walkman" style receiver, it uses the headphones as an antenna if it's not plugged into a docking station. This unit is the killer app for Sirius (XM hs something similar). The difference is that the Stiletto has a built in hard drive, and you can load your own MP3s or save songs onto the HD just by pushing thr Heart button on the unit when you hear a good song on the air.
Best feature for me, the one that could get me to replace my Sportster Replay - Wifi streaming at no additional cost. You can get all Sirius channels thru Wifi without needing the Satellite connection.
The programming is worth it to me, although they don't have a decent punk station like XM does with Fungus. I like Howard, and there's so much new music to discover all the time...
I pre-ordered a Wii on Amazon a couple weeks ago. They had a short window in which to order and I got lucky. Hope I get mine fast...Free shipping and no tax so I won't complain if it takes a couple days.
If I was MS I would drop the price of this thing to $199. I mean, this thing is gonna bomb anyway, minus well lower the price and hope to make more money on the music-selling end of things.
The first time I heard about an idea like this was from a slashdot comment. Someone wondered - a video of a Visa card getting taken out of a wallet in slo-mo...just enough so it would be "real time" to a fast-forwarding Tivo owner. I though the idea was brilliant, although my Tivo doesn't have a smooth frame rate while it forwards. Maybe someone at an ad agency was reading Slashdot? I looked for the original post but could not find it.
I get a little irked at the "hope for amputees thing". One of my best friends has an arm to the elbow only, and he doesn't need any hope - he's just fine. He has adapted well, and there are few things he cannot do. He has a fake arm for cosmetic reasons, and it helps him to grip simple things, but lets get real. Amputees are not hopeless, they can do most things you and I can do, and frankly some of them (my friend included) put their two-limb friends to shame with their dexterity.
How many people will own more than one battery for this thing? care to guess what percentage of owners? It doen't run on a pair of rechargeable AA's ya know...
I would recommend that artist negotiate a seperate contract for digital sales. My band is unsigned, but we get 91 percent of the iTunes cash (after Apple takes their cut). What band could be against that deal? iTunes is a potential cash cow for forward-thinking bands.
In what may be the crucial competitive stroke, Microsoft will also allow you to download from its store any song that you've purchased from Apple, unlocking users from iPod's vendor lock-in.
Hey dude! Get out of that horrible iPod prison! Check out my all-new Microsoft prison! come on in, its free to try!
Unless Microsoft is providing DRM free files, I will stay far away from this. At least iTunes lets me burn the songs to CD as many times as I wish.
I know the feeling! "Who is this dude?" Those aren't pillows!

Hey, thanks for the circuit board pics. I just figured out where to solder the modchip!

The Wii does support widescreen though. I'm happy about that. I was more worried that it would be stretched by my TV set.
Mac notebooks don't ship with a Mighty Mouse...
Reminds me of the robotic spiders in Minority Report that cooperated in searching. I thought it was a very cool scene.
I'm a happy Sirius subscriber...

Gapless Payck for iPod! Wonder if they will update the 5th gen with this?? Please???

Why should Apple take note? It's trivial to change the battery in an iPod. Took me 5 minutes...

Now I know what that Iraqi guy is doing while LOST is on hiatus...
I call this a hoax. I haven't seen any proof other than some phone-cam pic from some guy's blog.
See that little fan in the back? Put a little screwdriver in there and run the laptop for a few hours. I "smell" a Macbook Pro in your future!
