Nor was mine... And I'm sad to say that my state passed an amendment to our constitution converning gay marrige. They call it a "pro-marrige" amendment. I'm in the 20% minority that voted against banning gay marrige in my backwoods redneck state.
I have a way around all of this. Here's what I do.
Get about 10 VHS tapes and 2 VCRs. Set the VCRs to record all of your shows. Then, when your VCRs are done recording, take the tapes out and put sticky tabs on them noting what shows are recorded on each tape. Then put the tapes in a big stack and put two new tapes in the VCRs.
Using this method I've only lost about a dozen shows due to lazyness in sticky tab notation and misplacement of tapes (and occasionally the baby will rearrange them for me).
Anyway, who needs a TIVO when you can follow these simple steps and keep your shows until the sticky tab falls off.
I can't help but think this is dumb. What's the point of being able to display photos on an iPod? I assume it has something to do with digital integration of everything in your house, using the iPid as a portable storage medium, and if that's the ultimate goal, I support this addition. Otherwise, what's the point?
It would be interesting if the (rumored) GBrowser generated metadata that is used in google searches, thereby distributing (at least part of) the webcrawling mechanism.
I heard that he wrote this interview by first carving it into a limestone tablet using a sharp piece of flint. Then he transcribed that using a feather and cow's blood on paper that he creted himself from a tree which he gnawed down with his very own teeth. From that, blindfolded, he typed it into an email using only his toes and sent it in.
Wow, new job on Monday, and posting small novels on Friday! Not too bad!
Seriously though, I was laid off twice, 3 months the first time. That really put a dent in the old Visa. Looking back, I should have sold the house and moved to a small apartment so that I wouldn't go into debt so fast. The second time I was off for 1 month, and came out ahead on that one because of the severance pay.
Bush says this is what community colleges are for, but damned if a lot of us can afford to not get paid for 2 years while retooling for another job. That only makes sense if you can afford a 2 year vacation without pay. Unless you want to go way into debt while retooling, and that's not something the average family can afford to do.
Congrats on the new job!

Are you happy with the way the Internet has been developing over the years since you first wrote about the metaverse? While we have yet to interact with the internet through some sort of virtual reality interface, community sites (moveon, slashdot, etc) and online gaming (among other things) are currently pushing that boundry now. Is it growing like you expected it? What future internet related developments are you excited about?
Opinions on the quality of his endings are subjective. I thought Cryptonomicon was about as perfect a book as could be written, including the ending. I've heard (and read on slashdot) many a dissenting comment on this fact however.
Insightful? The article answers both of these questions!
The article says that it is one of 11 bombs lost during the cold war. This one, in particular, was lost because the bomber collided with a fighter jet and had to jettison its cargo, the bomb.

I can't speak for everyone's local news... But on MSNBC countdown last night, the host said, "If you don't want to hear news about Ken from Jeopardy, press your mute button now!" He did give other advance warnings too.
Slashdot needs to be a little more responsible with its reporting.
Your sample just goes to prove that java and perl may not be suited for the same tasks (which everyone already knows). Comparing languages is pointless, it's like comparing a fork and a spoon. Forks are good for steak, spoons are good for soup.
I use Perl when I have a task suited for Perl, Java when it better suits a task.
I do agree that it's difficult to do some simple things in Java... I personally feel that it's benifits outweigh it's detractions in most cases though.
Sounds like it's time to add Nigeria to the Axis of Evil? I mean, they are now threatening our lives. This is the same thing that terrorists do right?
They better be careful! Nigeria was where the yellow cake Uranium was *supposed* to be coming from? That supposition is enough for us to start bombing! Ahh, is that the sent of WAR I smell!??!??
I used to work at a Mailbox place (no, not etc.). They would not allow Nigerians to open accounts and obtain mailboxes since every single Nigerian in the past used them for fraud. Of course, there was a Fake "Chief of Police" fraud based in Minnisota operating out of the store as well, they just needed an Oklahoma address (And the FBI wouldn't do anything about that either).
But no, not all Nigerians are scammers, but many are... And thats a very sad thing.

Bastards.
Seems like you'd have to reimplement DirectX, which would not be easy, regardless of processor.
Same problem here. MS fixed it for me for free in what was perhaps the smoothest customer service experience I have ever had.
They said it was a manufacturing defect and fixed it for free. I haven't tried to get it to read CD-Rs.

What's up with this? Why not just start posting all the endings for upcoming movies?
oh right.... can't very well hook up a monitor to an iMac can you? That would look silly if you did!
I believe that the new Macs use standard DVI connectors now, so you should be able to plug in any modern monitor, or an older one with a converter.

very true, very true...
But then you have a utensil that is not good at being a spoon or a fork! It's only useful quality is as a conversation starter:)

someone reverse engineers this thing? Remember the cue-cat?
"Wow, this guy drives one mile less than the speed limit at all times! Discount: Maximum!"
well, for one thing, every time you got drunk and passed out, someone would end up giving you CPR and busting your ribs.
