The last time I checked out Redhat's prices they were awfully high. My boss remarked that he could by a Windows server for less. Considering how much of Redhat's, or any Linux Distro company, work is done for free by the open source community I would expect the price to undercut proprietary code software everytime.
That's not suprising. Many recent Lego products lack complexity and imagination, especially the movies sets like Harry Potter and Star Wars. They are also much more expensive than I remember.
AFAIK you cannot be forced to work overtime. Thus employees could have said no. If there we dismissed then that would be grounds for a law suit. EA may treat their employees poorly but it seems that the employees treat themselves just as poorly. Stand up for yourselves.
While a feel for you there is nothing unusual about not being able to use a USB key. Disabling those in becoming common practice to prevent data theft.
Why look to the so called 'fringes' of society. There are plenty of 'mainstream' people who are just as weird. How about sports fans, (e.g. NFL)? What about teenaged girls and boy bands?
Why are we always breaking software into open and proprietary? Why can't people just create a prioritized list of requirements and then use it to pick the software that fits the best for them?
The sad thing is, history is still repeating itself today. Instead of complaining about how people are treated in a game how about complaining about how people are treated in real life. Get out of the basement people!
I find it hard to believe that it costs more money to develop software that it does to design and manufacture hardware. This seems like FUD to me. Hardware, over time, becomes less expensive and gives better performance. Why is software exempt from this? Why does Windows cost more now that it did in the past? Why does MS Office cost more now than in the past? Is it somehow more costly to improve and existing code base instead of designing a new one?

Shocking. Microsoft has never done that before. Seriously, where have you been since Windows 1.0?
Nevermind I found it. That sucks!
I don't follow you. I see no evidence that a computer programmer is not eligeble for overtime.
Yes, I live in Ontario. Yes our laws are seemly less like the slave labour you are describing: Minitry of Labour

That's what's wrong with people today. Everyone 'plays it safe'. No wonder some argue that innovation has slowed.
A skilled trade is a good career choice. They are in very high demand these days. Check out this article in the Toronto Star.
I don't think that is a good comparison. I true, honest trades-person is rare and invaluable.
My GeForce4, with only 64MB of RAM, runs Unreal 2004 quite nicely.
When mod_perl 2 (actually, 1.99_17) is no longer a development release.

I think America ignored European patents in the 18th and 19th century.
Has any calculated the cost of pollution from coal burning? It's not fair to leave out.
Very true. Just recently I discovered that a business partner (telecom industry) has begun rejecting HTML email. I wonder if that policy will survive?

There are these things call books. People used to read them before the video age. Often old timers can be heard saying the book was better.

Shame on him for attempting it the first time. Shame on the Slashdot editors for letting him get away with it more than once.
How efficient are Windows users without books and training? Step into the trenches of user support and find out.
Today's recall could also illustrate the results of excessive cost cutting.
