Your comment reminds me of an interesting experiment you can do in 2D. Show people a page containing nothing but a creature that can't possibly exist and ask how big it is, obviously there's no way to answer without scale. If you put a picture of an elephant next to the creature it looks huge but if you put a picture of a mouse next to it the creature looks small.

Because the cause that I see is: highly qualified or not, such a job would require better motivation for those doing it. Maybe if the company hiring them would spend a bit more from the money you(we) paid through the your(our) nose to pay the loaders better, the parcels will be better handled? Maybe the very company you think is slammed has part of the responsibility?

When I was in college my roommate had a job loading parcels, it paid more than double minimum wage and the only requirement was to be able to lift 20lb. I learned pretty quickly that "fragile" doesn't mean shit. Of course the company has responsibility but I think it starts with the hiring process, not the pay.

Fine - try looking at it a different way. Let's say that Europa has an atmospheric density of 100 units. If someone were to say that Rhea's was one time thinner, what would the density of Rhea's atmosphere be?

Someone wouldn't say "one time thinner".... But let's say someone said Rhea's atmosphere was twice as thin, two times thinner, half as thick, whatever you prefer, as Europa's then the density of Rhea's atmosphere would be 50 units.

Go read this explanation of the difference in density between air and water, it will probably make this whole atmosphere thing make more sense.

I disagree. I regard myself as a low stress person and I ride a bike to work, That may be a correlation but I don't think its causative. Some people wind them selves up on stress. Panic and stress feeding on each other until there is nothing else. Telling them to go for a swim or something won't help. They have to look outside the job they are working on.

To be fair, I don't know anyone who relaxes on the trip to work. ;) As for looking outside the job you're working on that's why you need regularly scheduled activity, so it forces you to step away for a while.

I think the problem with IT, or any knowledge-based jobs, is that you don't produce anything tangible so no matter how much you work it rarely feels like there's something to show for it. That's why I recommend physical activity.

That's pretty much the answer: physical activity relieves stress. Do some sort of activity that gets you outside and away from all the blinkenlights for a while regularly and you'll feel a hell of a lot better.

Civil disobedience involves deliberately breaking the law you believe is unjust, no more, no less. Given those parameters, I believe the text you quoted is correct. For example, if you believe current copyright law is unjust and want to exercise civil disobedience you should break copyright law not DDOS a website.

10.10 uses the 2.6.35 kernel by default instead of the 2.6.32 kernel and it has better driver support than 10.04 (more stuff just works).

95% of the changes between releases are completely cosmetic but there is the odd thing that makes it worthwhile, for me anyway.

You're obviously a dog person. Almost every dog person I've met actively hated cats; I think it's very sad. Most cat people are neutral at worst on dogs or actually, gasp, like them too. I'm an animal person, I don't see the need to side with one particular type.

I grew up with two very loving and intelligent shepherds, farm dogs, and loved spending time with them. I also grew up with a bunch of cats we tamed, basically live mouse traps that just showed up one day, and loved spending time with them just as much.

I don't have a dog anymore because it wouldn't fit with my current lifestyle, I don't want to go outside in the winter and I'm not home a lot, so I have two cats instead. Our cats come when you call them, stay off the counters, open doors to get to the room the litter box is in and pick up non-verbal cues just as well as my dogs did. The reason you don't have helper cats is because of their social structure: they don't actively try to make the leader of the pack happy, they decide if something's worth it on a case-by-case basis.
