And the building at irregular but frequent intervals will blow itself up. But
before it does, the doors will be locked and the people inside will be warned
that "The building will blow up in order to save the people in it. (ding dong)".
But "luckily" the building is made of cardboard with elastics and it will
reassemble itself and the corpses will be disposed of.
It's not the the grammar error I'll point at but the fact too high a percentage
of voters think watching Arnie's popularism is their share of
thoroughly contemplation.
If running Linux on a mainframe is just 10 times more expensive
than running Windows on a crappy PC then I bet most managers would favor Linux
straight away. More scalable, more reliable, what do you want more?
Having said that, you'd be even better off if you could find a way to let your
application run on a bunch of PC Linux boxes that together meet the scalability
and reliability of z900 systems.
He says that this shows that, at least for numbers, language shapes and limits how people can think.
This is a chicken/egg thing. Aparently there are many words in the language
of the Inuit that we would translate as snow. Maybe we don't care less about
the different snow types than the Inuit do. So maybe the tribe simply doesn't
(need to) care about exact figures greater than 3. Maybe they're less uptight
than we are. Maybe.
think in German I compose thoughts and analyze my environment
differently
Like you write nouns using ucfirst(), concatinate the words forming
a concept like in Lookenspeepers and anything is either Über.. or
Unter.. (like in Geek).
Microsoft not being brought down by 100s of M$ in lost business.
Governments overreacting by banning software. In stead of allowing a patch.
Also: ...It [a chant presumably an audio file] was an incredible insult to Islam...
Microsoft withdrew the game worldwide...
Why not just change the chant?
ITER is stalled over a dispute on where to locate the facility
This reminds me of a passage from of a Woody Allen book I read. Two professors
chasing and hitting each other with umbrellas over the campus area in order
to settle the dispute on whether the bell marks college end or break begin.
the two female profs here are both slightly mad with no life outside of work. It's important to show women that you can do IT/tech/science jobs and have a life.
Look at your male profs, see if excell at their jobs and then see whether they
have a life or not. Men without lives are probably more accepted than women
without lives. I wouldn't be surprised to hear far more women than men have
social lives.
I trust for two years Seagate will compensate the loss of Pete's income including the rise he would get from WG. In the mean time, Pete could study and optionally change trade (in such a case I might turn into a chef de cuisine and I can recommend this to Pete).
He'll get geud just like the poor Opti-Grab inventor was.
That is to say:
- Solaris will still recognize the hardware it always ran on.
- The kernel will keep on hiding low-level details to the applications.

I am an artist (vocal and trumpet)
Do you have a "special" version of "My Funny Valentine"? Maybe one where you play like Chet Baker would whilst singing the words?
(No offence intended, just a silly question)

His dad was the carpenter. He was just "On top of the world."

Here's the March 11 article. I guess we can expect the next dupe some time in March 2005. Do people at /. read /. themselves?
BitTorrent ..., every day is "Free Software Day"
Someone mod this one either funny or overrated but not insightful. OTOH, also not overrated 'cause that is for pussies.

Geeks don't give a damn about coolness.
Have you ever seen a cool geek?
I rest my case.
"Would you have interest in working on these types of projects with Microsoft?"
"I'd rather cut off my penis with a rusty butter knife!" (Quote from Bottom [fab BBC series])
I havn't seen any evidence to support the need to brush your teeth ever.
Tell us all, have you ever actually kissed a woman?
- Left makes people lazy.
- Right sells out to corporations.
- The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Now, did my brain (activity) change in this process or is this part of an intellectual development? He says that this shows that, at least for numbers, language shapes and limits how people can think.

We [Norway] really should have joined EU a long time ago
You could also buy Poland with the money you're making with oil and you'd be creating your own deficit like most EU countries have.
