    That is to say:
    • Solaris will still recognize the hardware it always ran on.
    • The kernel will keep on hiding low-level details to the applications.

    And the building at irregular but frequent intervals will blow itself up. But before it does, the doors will be locked and the people inside will be warned that "The building will blow up in order to save the people in it. (ding dong)". But "luckily" the building is made of cardboard with elastics and it will reassemble itself and the corpses will be disposed of.

    If running Linux on a mainframe is just 10 times more expensive than running Windows on a crappy PC then I bet most managers would favor Linux straight away. More scalable, more reliable, what do you want more?

    Having said that, you'd be even better off if you could find a way to let your application run on a bunch of PC Linux boxes that together meet the scalability and reliability of z900 systems.

    • Left makes people lazy.
    • Right sells out to corporations.
    • The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
    Now, did my brain (activity) change in this process or is this part of an intellectual development?

    He says that this shows that, at least for numbers, language shapes and limits how people can think.
    This is a chicken/egg thing. Aparently there are many words in the language of the Inuit that we would translate as snow. Maybe we don't care less about the different snow types than the Inuit do. So maybe the tribe simply doesn't (need to) care about exact figures greater than 3. Maybe they're less uptight than we are. Maybe.

    think in German I compose thoughts and analyze my environment differently
    Like you write nouns using ucfirst(), concatinate the words forming a concept like in Lookenspeepers and anything is either Über.. or Unter.. (like in Geek).

    • USA not knowing anything about !USA.
    • Microsoft not being brought down by 100s of M$ in lost business.
    • Governments overreacting by banning software. In stead of allowing a patch.
    Also:

    Why not just change the chant?

    This reminds me of a passage from of a Woody Allen book I read. Two professors chasing and hitting each other with umbrellas over the campus area in order to settle the dispute on whether the bell marks college end or break begin.

    the two female profs here are both slightly mad with no life outside of work. It's important to show women that you can do IT/tech/science jobs and have a life.

    Look at your male profs, see if excell at their jobs and then see whether they have a life or not. Men without lives are probably more accepted than women without lives. I wouldn't be surprised to hear far more women than men have social lives.
