A new device, named the "handgun" has just been invented. Early models are capable of shooting a dozen feet!
Ok, so range - a dozen feet? What happens if they miss the target... some random object/person gets blasted a dozen feet down the road? Yeah, that sounds like a great idea...
The problem with life imprisonment is that it is rarely that. A disgustingly large portion of those who are sentenced to life in prison are let out on parole; would you really want a serial killer (who would had otherwise been executed) to be let out of prison on parole? I know I wouldn't.
The 2k machine is brand new, and I've never ran Linux on it, so it could be the hardware.
However, the machine with 98 was one of my servers for about 2 years, and it ran fine during that time. The problems I told about occurred within a week of replacing the server with a newer server.
If I hadn't already used my mod points, I would mod you up..
You know, I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. I was using Windows 98 on a computer with _nothing_ but Windows on it, and every time I would click a link in IE, it would lock up explorer.exe.. Then later I was on a Windows 2000 computer, and it wasn't nearly as stable as I remembered it.
In all fairness, I use Linux, so I may be spolied. But it seems to me that they did lock up far more than when they were originally released.
Your girlfriend might download alot of software just to try it out, but everyone I know is too scared to.
I know back in the day before I had migrated to Linux, I would install various programs just to play around with them. However, I never installed crapware like Gator, it was usually just stuff from sourceforge that sounded useful.
Maybe you could try giving her a distro that uses RPM, then show her freshmeat and sourceforge, and teach her how to install any programs she might want. That should satisfy her urge to try out new things.
I just skimmed through their website, but it looks to me like their user's speeds would be limited by their bandwidth, just like any other proxy. So what happens when 20% of those thousands of users get on Kazaa at once?
Yes, I did RTFA, and it said nothing about what would be different between the "light" version and the normal version.
Is it going to have fewer M$ programs bundled with it or what? And if it is, what the hell isn't too tightly integrated for them to remove? Solitare and pinball?

I just sent an invite to a hotmail account, and the person got it.
I just added all you guys. Good lucky.
Some of us with Orkut accounts have been offered gmail accounts.
If you want an Orkut account, reply with your email, and I'll invite you.
(come on, it's funny. at least I didn't suggest blaming SCO...)
It's their fault though, isn't it?
He typed, of course.
Any good geek can launch Firefox, navigate to Slashdot, find a story, and post a comment without looking at the screen.
Can anyone confirm that it works with OS X?
If OS X even installs, how much of it works? Networking? Sound? Video acceleration?
I have. Worked fine, except for a few RPM dependency problems that were easily fixed. However, I still prefer Gentoo. Those guys are saints.
Gentoo has this aswell. There are no distribution versions, a simple 'emerge -uDav world' will update the system.
There are two very close to the Orlando, Florida area. There are also more around here that aren't quite as close..
Google for the statistics.
I agree with you there.
But I would argue that execution is better than letting them go free, which happens all too often.

but will a patch be required to create an account with no serial?
If they release a patch, I don't think it will work with Loki's Tribes 2..
I hope so - that would be awesome.
I have a copy of the Linux version of Tribes 2, but I can't play it because I don't have a serial.
What about the serial number required for online play?
Will it be provided with the magazine/download?

...maybe it only _says_ it's running on IIS?
It's not that hard to have Apache identify itself as something else...

If they're smart, they'll check for any attempts at cracking, and then send their logs straight to /dev/null.
Or is that illegal?
This is not a troll, but a serious answer.
None.

What is there to gain from destroying backward compatibility by replacing the BIOS?
I wouldn't be suprised if Intel tried to 'lock out' Linux, too.
