I have recently instituted a Lynx only browser policy among my users. Now, we have no security problems, and out web traffic was reduced to only 5% of what it was before!
It's not exactly the same, but Tivo does play music. You can serve mp3s to your Tivo from another computer, and create playlists and such. I do it all the time over my 802.11b network and it works great. So that's not a huge advantage in my book.
I would love to build a mythTV box sometime - it looks like fun. I really like the addons they have made, like the weather and stuff. Tivo should incorporate that I think.
I think ideally both should be taught. Maybe have an intro course where the first half of the class is working on typing skills, and the second part of the class is on general computer skills. Most younger people I see (junior high or high schoolers) can type, but not properly. Bad technique will never yield high speed and accuracy.
Consider the alternative. You may think that removing an organ for re-use is ugly, but what is the difference between that and throwing it away? Aren't both ugly? I would rather see my organs continue to get used if I don't need them anymore.
Yes, we still use telnet. Get over it. When you are in a company with 100k employees, you don't always get to pick or have the power to decide "gee, I think i will switch the 20,000 servers we have to ssh instead of telnet".
That's what I was going to say. Why go through the effort and time it takes to download illegal warez when you can just download DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for free (on a Windows platform)? With the both of them, you can do most anything you want in a simple way.
Right. And anyone mad at Indians or India for taking their job has misplaced anger. You shouldn't be mad at these inividuals trying to make money, you should be mad at the company you work for, who CHOSE to displace American workers to make more money. I have a feeling it is will be coming to bite them in the ass someday. But there are still companies out there who will not offshore work to other countries, and I have a lot more respect for these companies.
because it is debian. I mean, let's call a spade a spade here. Some distros make newness a priority, others choose older, proven packages. Debian is on the proven side of the spectrum. Debian moves slower than many other Linux distros. This is not a bad thing, it gives the users a choice.
Oh, sure! Now you'll probably tell me that they re-use motor oil and cardboard! If they ever start recycling the aluminum cans I put my lips too, boy I am not sure what I will do!
Seriously, to the parent poster, do you think oil is clean when the get it from vegetables, or that we can pump gas straight out of the ground? Oil can be cleaned and filtered, and used again no problem.
I was sure I would be modded down since slashdot leans so far to the left. Thanks for proving my point and censoring my post because you dont agree with it. Continue your taxation, please.
Actually interesting that you bring this up. I just brought a cycle home yesterday (a bike-e) and am starting to ride on it. Not so much to save fuel, I just find that it helps me drop a few lbs, and i have more energy. and it doesn't take considerably longer than a car.
It seems like Fedora has lost its twenty-seven pieces of flair since it was controlled by the Fedora team and not specifically by RedHat. It doesn't have that same sparkle anymore, To give it credit though, it is a nice stable desktop OS. For my money, though, I think SuSE and Mandrake have better products for the professional's desktop.
A professional doesn't always have time to install this or that from source, or wait for things to compile, or sit through a barebones installer to have to install a bunch pf packages after the install.
Yeah tax the hell out of everything so no one does it. Great liberal thinking here. Did you ever stop and think that public transportation in America is much harder than it is in Europe or Japan? I mean, the state I live in in bigger than the UK. We have so much land to cover, that it is a much harder problem to solve. Same reason our cell phone technology lags behind the rest of the world.
Taxing gas sky high will do nothing except give the government more money to spend, and give the people less money. I mean, Christ, is 25% of your paycheck not enough for you? When I work for my money, I like to keep some of it.
Well all I can say is that it sucks to be you and live under such heavy taxation. And where I have been in the UK, it is dirtier than the US. Of course, the UK is much more dense, but still. Gas wants to be close to free.
Did you know that "cletus like" characters are often better at driving than geeks like you? These are people that drive tractors, tractor trailers, dump trucks, etc. And can probably fix a whole lot more than you when things go wrong. Suck of this geek supremicist bullshit. You are not better than everyone at everything. You are better at a small subset of things.
Good story. Another point is that many of us in the IT field are basically technological janitors, picking up, moving, cleaning things(or data) for the users.
No different than building a table, moving a desk, or cleaning up puke off the bathroom floor.

Perhaps you mean Guinness.
"What's your phone address?"
"Oh, it's vee oh tee pee colon slash slash U S dot florida dot 1974 dot colon twelve colong twelve slash cryptic spawn, all one word."
"Uhh... ok, nevermind."

And who do you think makes and has made HP laserjets for many years? Canon has made much of HP's higher end laserjets for almost 20 years now.

I pity you. It takes me 9 minutes to get to work through traffic. Luckily I live 3 miles away from the office.

Actually when we buy bags if dope they are measured in ounces. a quarter ounce, half ounce, etc.
Yes, nothing beats a crisp and cool IPA while sitting on the porch on a hot summer day.

You speaketh the truth. It's a shame what has become of corporate culture.
