Simple: Amazon isn't exactly a competitor of Microsoft's like Google is. Clearly M$ had bought out the world's media outlooks to give Google an unfair shake.
Hey, we all know this could be true;)
While this is probably being heralded as good news (i.e. prominent "news" figure endorses Linux), isn't this really just jumping on the bandwagon while he still can?
Microsoft hires more than a few student representatives at the University of Toronto (read: Canada) to maintain a "Microsoft Student Research Group"... Basically, they hold meetings every month and push.NET and tablet PCs (at least, at the one meeting I went to), whilst bribing you with free merch and pizza. They occasionally organize projects built by students done on a volunteer basis using.NET technology... which no doubt finds its way back to the peeps at Microsoft. Free labour under the guise of "research". Fabulous.
This article is something like 10 small paragraphs long as an introduction to setting up and running (for a short while now) Linux. It is hardly worth the average Slashdot reader's time.
I wonder what the goal of this is... I don't think these students will begin purchasing CDs now (as opposed to downloading) given their $17k debt... fabulous.
I think the RIAA should sue all of us, and then we'll all turn to buying CDs! Brilliant!
Wow, poor guy sure has it tough. And to think I felt sorry for myself for working 50 hours a week at McDonald's while this guy's labouring in some sort of gaming slave pit - sheesh!
If you don't know where to start, College/University in CS or Engineering is as good a place as anywhere. The stuff you'll learn is invaluable. There's really not to say other than that.
Had to be said...;)

I mean, when people look at Spielberg's "bad" movies, the first thing that comes up is A.I., which should be taken with a grain of salt seeing as this film was developed largely by Kubrick.
Aside from that, what really sparks you as bad? Minority Report? For all of its plot discontinuities (did I spell that right?), I think that the consensus is positive - it was an enjoyable sci-fi film with good performances all around, albeit with a few cheesy moments. Let's look at his films of the late-90's. Amistad - never saw it, but heard good things. Saving Private Ryan - do I really need to go into this, it was hands down my pick for Best Picture in 1997 (Grr... Shakespeare in Love?) At this point I'll mention his involvement with Band of Brothers. A little bit earlier, Schindler's List, another classic.
TV is a new avenue for Spielberg - don't count him out yet. Over the past few years, I think his good work outweighs his bad work.
Big hurrah for the network engineers of the University, large applause for the network engineers of SURFnet for restoring the 10Gbps Point of Presence within 36 hours after the fire.
And one giant hurrah for the original structural engineers for building us one giant flamable deathtrap.
Is this so much about recognition as it is about money? Too many people have this perception that when releasing old stuff on DVD, the producers deserve some credit - like they're doing us a favour. Trust me, I'm sure Paramount would love to snag a few million more to add to their pocketbooks.
Well, if I recall back to David Fincher's "Seven", there's an interesting scene where Morgan Freeman's character explains to Brad Pitt's character that the country has specific books flagged, and that if you're reading them, they know it (or something to that degree).
My point here is - I've never known movies to be wrong.
I'm enjoying the idea of a handful of Microsoft PR employees rubbing these static-cling butterfly ads over their heads, vigorously no doubt, to achieve the desired sticky effect.

Batman, living in the U.S. and being white, was no doubt raised Christian. As such, he has the power of God on his side, and who can defeat such power? Let us look back to Moses - a weak being defeating a seemingly more powerful Pharoah. Is this not the same analogy between Batman and Superman? This, of course, is assuming Superman has not yet converted to the faith - in which case Superman would most obviously win, I mean, holy $#!@ he's strong.
what does that say about one's state of grace? As a Catholic, I recognize the sinfulness of pornography (in most cases), yet, when I refuse to succumb to the lure of such lurid depictions, I triump over sin.
I hear you brother. I am tempted daily by women, booze and drugs, but I too have triumped over sin, a reward much greater than the inebriation such things provide. I will not succumb to the devil - I shall triump over his sinful distractions.

Well, technically, isn't it still the rarest C64 ever made? Last I checked (just now), it is the fastest one in the world.
If I converted a Model-T ford into a Toyota Corolla, wouldn't that make it one hell of a unique Model-T ford?
Just a thought.
Wow, someone actually remembers that show other than me? Profit was great! I can't believe it was taken off the air after 1 season - curse you Fox Broadcasting.
No offense to you my good man, but if for some reason you're actually interested in FireFly, I suggest heading out and picking up some Cowboy Bebop episodes (not sure if it's still on Cartoon Network: Adult Swim? - I'm in Canada, what do I know). After watching this Japanese classic you'll realize that a) it's great, and b) FireFly is a horrible rip-off.
As for SG1, I've yet to see it.
Should things happen the same way with Microsoft and the hundreds of other "patent-infringers", is now a good time to buy Kodak stock?

Problem is, people only buy more the following day to compensate for their lack of spending. A noble 'cause, but a futile one, imho.
Sure, those pet tornadoes _look_ cute when they're small, but boy, they grow up - they grow up big.

At least it shows Microsoft is keeping some goal in mind in developing Windows - personally I was beginning to wonder ...
Don't get me wrong, I love DS9 though.

It took 15 years, but I can finally play my C64 copy of "Bad Dudes" at more than 5 frames per second - hoorah!
Well, seeing as writers are spinners of fable and story, could it be possible that they might also ... lie?
