Of course that could have been dehydration because it was so damn hot and humid there, which isn't helped much by the high tech, heat absorbing camouflage utility uniform.

Take a look at the Submission Release (.DOC) that you must submit when applying for an Art Position ( FX ARTIST 2 ) with the company.

  9. Re:Kids watch the news?? on Kid-Safe Domain Created · · Score: 1

Your first point about children hunting down something your sheltering them is from is correct in that sheltering is no longer useful. Now the point of the child being mentally prepared for that subject, you're only partially correct. This is where it is the job of the parent to give guidance.

Think of it this way, my daughter likes math and is pretty good at it. She's in third grade learning basic operations. The school doesn't drop algebra, geometry, or calculus problems on her. She's not ready. However I have on several occasions shown her how what she is doing can go further using simple algebra. As she progress I can continue to give her glimpses of what's ahead.

In your example, if for some *really* weird reason a child in early development started looking for porn sites I would have to question whether the parents really have a handle on their children. I could go on with this one, but this isn't the parenting channel.

To stay on topic, the kids.us domain is not censorship as you describe, it is a "safe" place for kids to play. Similar to a play ground. Dangerous things happen at play grounds, but it is better than letting your children learn the harshness of life by letting them play on a busy street. Dangerous things will happen from time to time on the kids.us domain, but overall you can rest assured that your kids won't stumble onto biker porn there.

Lastly as my kids approach the teen years I seriously doubt they would be interested in anything in that domain. I certainly wouldn't hold them to it.

  10. Kids watch the news?? on Kid-Safe Domain Created · · Score: 1

Really, my kids seem to only want to watch Nick and Disney or watch a DVD/VHS movie. They don't go *looking* for news. The older ones (under 12) will watch news if I am watching. The toddler just gets board and goes play. They certainly have not ever *bugged* me to watch the news.

Now what exactly is "kid safe" is an interesting question that we'll see played out in this domain space in the next few years.

-Some parents will trust the tool completely, thereby misusing it.

-Other parents will despise the tool withour realizing it's beneficial possibilities

-The best parents will use this tool in concert with other tools to raise their child as the parent sees fit.

When I see "kids.us" I think toddlers just learning to use a computer, I think of my 8-year-old daughter who is looking for some fun game to play. Terrorism is the act of attacking a government through it's society/people. In the case of 9/11 the enemy sought to decapitate our country by attacking financial, government, and military leadership. It is the responsibility of a government to defend it's citizen's so in fact that "recognized" governments are those with license to use force. Terrorism would be the unauthorized use of force. Our current enemy chose to attack not only the people, but the government as well to make their statement. Now, even thought I pretty much loath the service and their stereotypical user, I understand that AOL still has the greatest benefit of being EASY. This is their greatest asset. There are professionals out there that know how to use their PC, but barely know how to configure it. They may have the intellect to figure it out, but when their time is more valuable than the guy at Best Buy, then why should they bother? (Not to mention, it keeps the guy at Best Buy employed)
