They own the copyright to their patches, but not to the thing they're patching. Just like the renter of an apartment owns the microwave oven they bought, but not the apartment they put it in.
The "it's" in "it's Ryan's bike" isn't posessive: Ryan owns the bike, not the word "it". But the "its" in "the laptop drains its batteries" is posessive: the "it" stands for the laptop, which owns its batteries.
As a rule of thumb, if you can sensibly replace the abreviation with "it is", the word to use is "it's". Otherwise, it's always "its".
So according to you, a couple of moderators -- both of whom have now been overturned (the post is Score:2, Informative now) -- represent "the Slashdot majority"?
There are issues with it for non-commercial software which isn't GPLed. There aren't issues with it for commercial software which is GPLed. GPL != non-commercial.
I've been thinking of buying one of those for a while, so I'm hoping you can answer a few questions I've been wanting to ask a user. Have you tried installing a different distro on yours? Is the keyboard unusually hard to type on for a laptop? What kind of battery life do you get? Thanks a whole lot.
Am I the only one here who's reminded of the countless other "amazing programs" with glowing writeups and great-looking screenshots that are never actually released? When I see a download link, I'll believe it.
I understand your point of view, and I respect it, but I disagree.
The CEO of Neopets Inc., Doug Dohring, owns a market research company called The Dohring Company. How can you claim that a company led by a market researcher isn't about marketing?
You're right about the games having notices, but really, how many children do you think are going to notice miniscule text at the bottom of the page -- especially when it's below the "fold" (that is, where the bottom of the browser window is when scrolled to the top) at most resolutions? There's not even a notice within the games themselves.
Adam, if that's really you, I don't think you're evil. I think you made a mistake by letting Doug Dohring buy Neopets, but everyone's made mistakes. If I were you, I would at least consider quitting Neopets if it continues to use subversive techniques like immersive advertising; please give it some thought.
But that's not why. Their stated mission isn't to provide a fun game for kids to play, it's to maximize advertising revenue. They have marketing studies talking about children as though they're consumers waiting to be advertised to and nothing else. Their "immersive advertising" technique is horrible; most children can't even tell the difference between the ads and the game. In a nutshell, they're a marketing company with a game attached.
Underclocking is defined as running a processor at a speed lower than what the the factory recommendeds, making "factory underclocking" an oxymoron.

So that's how cattle mutilations happen!
Calling a terrorist a terrorist isn't scapegoating. Calling random people you don't like terrorists is.
I say the MPAA is a COMMUNIST! Get them!
What happened to "u", "r", "y", etc.?
Move to Vermont. No billboards, period.

One gigabyte is 1000 megabytes. Perhaps you're thinking of a gibibyte?
I wonder if we'll end up with ROT13ed Flash files?

But I thought geeks couldn't get GFs!

Use hex! It'll take a quarter of the time!
Are you sure you don't mean "weigh" instead of "way"?
It has nothing to do with "elitist languages", it has to do with PHP being a "minute to learn, lifetime to debug" language.
PHP is commonly used on the server side, JavaScript is commonly used on the client side. But no magical force binds them to their respective sides.
Because system settings are best left as system settings. Even if it could, why should GIMP arbitrarily override the settings its user has defined?
If you don't like tree structures, why not just put all of your bookmarks in the root folder?
You're right.
