  1. More Slashdot demagoguery? on Clever New Windows Worm · · Score: 3, Interesting

Not that there's a problem with windows security.

Why do the editors of Slashdot ALWAYS put their unproductive, derogatory, flaming, two cents at the end of _every_ story regarding something "AWFUL" Microsoft has done? Either they are really insecure about "their Linux," and can't get fullfillment from any other means than bashing the competition, or they really don't believe in what they advocate so much. I'm sick and tired of hearing it! Come ON Slashdot! There are countless posts in previous stories that sound just like this one - all in reponse to the crap you guys put in the Microsoft stories. Get the picture: no one wants your bias. Bias makes for unreliable, untruthful, and slanted news.

With that being said, of course there are problems with Windows security. There are security problems in EVERY OS. Stop pointing the relentless finger at Microsoft every chance you get.

I'm an avid video game player, and have been for several years. At first, I read this story and said to myself "HELL NO", as I really don't buy into much of the modern art out there today. A lot of it does not seem to be the result of talent, thought, meaning, or artform. The same thing can be said about MANY video games. This is why I originally said "HELL NO". However, there are exceptions. Final Fantasy is perhaps one of the most moving video game series every produced on this planet. It has story, it has beauty, depth, and meaning. It is art. Just as there exists art with little or no apparant worth to me, there exist video games with little or no apparant worth. Yet, there are the few that truly qualify as art. So, in conclusion: some video games should be considered art, just as some "art" should really not be considered art.

It gets the job done, and quite well, if you ask me. I've never had a problem with it (aside from the "feet" falling off), and I am impressed by the enormous number of functions that come built into the OS.

You are absolutely right, we should not worry about things that are "necessary" for our world to continue as it does, and instead just spend all our time and effort being concerned with the attacks/military action.

WRONG. That is exactly what the terrorists want us to do - that will give them a higher degree of satisfaction. In order to give them the symbolic finger, we have to persist in our day-to-day activities. After all, there are people to whom our tax dollars go who work on the issues at large.

To beat this horse just a little bit more, don't forget that the Slashdot community was perhaps the greatest beacon for information when the attacks took place. 1) Barney. Or, as I like to call it "unlearning through sensory numbing." Obviously not a good choice for anyone, at all, period.

2)Not learning, although still through violence. Example: most pointless video games. I say most, because I am still a firm believer in the idea that viedo games are great for the imagination, among other things.

This leaves us with the healthy alternative of:

C)Learning through violence! Yes, blowing up giant robots is FUN, and most kids would be thrilled to pull the trigger and show off his or her prowess on the virtual battlefield. I know I would love to destroy a an opposing process or script with the knack of my own creation. What is the big problem, when the kid would more than likely spend his or her time on a (possibly) less productice game? I say that this is a great idea. People learn better when they are having fun with what they are doing.

Finally, it is not "rewarding" the child for following through with a violent act - it is simply a mode by which the student can learn a new skill. Haven't you ever built an erector set? Most of them involved the construction of battlefield tanks or other war machines. It just happens to be one of the best-suited applications for teaching programming.
