  1. No Tax on State Coalition Approves Internet Sales Tax Plan · · Score: 3, Insightful

Of course you could just buy everything from "off shore" sites and Canadian ones. But I am sure they will have a way to tax that as well.

Hey I am right there with you. I run a 1 GHz and a 550 MHz daily.

  3. Good Choice on Folding@Home Client's Performance Impact Measured · · Score: 2, Interesting

Folding@home is a good client to use, it is so versitle. You can run it on nearly every OS out there and like the article states it is pretty much transparent. Plus it is easy to hide on a PC as a service. It seems to run on nearly no resources. It would be the smart choice for anyone. 'Nuff said.

What si the security like with this thing, it works in the 900Mhz range, I know alot of 900Mhz phones that are easily tapped with cheap equiptment. I hope Sony has thought this through.

  6. Money?!? on Robotic Inchworm Drill for Mars, Europa · · Score: 2, Interesting

Since I was unable to read the article, I have but one question. WHo is funding this? Just when NASA is nearing its last penny it comes up with this? I guess more tax dollars will pay for this one. Why not spend some of that money exploring our own planet. There are expansive depths of the oceans that have life forms we have yet to discover, same goes for the rainforests. Why not procure some tax dollars and explore them. If we can devise a way for man, dog, and even robotic inchworms to get to space I am certain that with some ingenuity we can reach the depths of the oceans and possibly come up with the discovery of our life time.

I use Solaris on a daily basis at work and love it! This would be great if it happens. With it's simple interface and usability I could see OpenSolaris becoming very popular. I am going to follow this one closely.

  11. How much?!? on Dolby Buys MIT's DTV Vote for $30 Million · · Score: 5, Interesting

This is outrageous! They gave them that much money because they voted for thier product? Is Dolby Labrotories that concerned about competition? Last time I checked they pretty much had market cornered with thier audio playback standards, why wouldn'e anybody vote for them?

  12. Ok... on Artist Creates Mac Shrine · · Score: 4, Informative

So there are some real fanatics out there...so what? I am sure all of you who are dissing this guy and article are guilty of similar crimes. How many of you go out and find a new game only to become addicted to it, say Warcraft III, and also buy all the marketing extras such as the action figures, books, and what not. I myself do not know enough about Macs to have a definite opinion of them but it seems they are diong something right because they have such a strong cult following and I would have to definately praise Steve Jobs for his wonderful marketing tactics.

  18. What next? on Internet Access via Cell Phone HOWTO · · Score: 2, Funny

What has society come to? Our need for information has nearly surpassed our need for a social life. Accessing the net on our phones? Playing Doom on our phones. Looking at photos on our phones? Ok maybe I am a little bias because somebody stole my PCS phone the other day! I WILL FIND YOU AND AND...WELL I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO TO YOU BUT IT WON'T BE GOOD!!!

  19. 'bout time on Gnutella2? · · Score: 0

I have been using Shareaza for quite some time now and this will be a much needed improvement. One thing that Gnutella has lacked is a faster systems for searching and sharing. I still don't think it will be able to compete with the easy to use GUI of Kazaa or Morpheus. Either way it is a decent step in the right direction for P2P sharing.

  20. Standard on BMG Stops Producing CDs · · Score: 2, Interesting

The Phillips/Sony Red Book Standard states that and Compact Disc that is created with this standard format will be compatible will nearly all CD players. BMG and thier false claim that thier "crippled" CD are Red Book compliant is outrageous. Once again this is just another reason why people use P2P servers to get thier music fix.

Furthermore, does BMG really think that producing "crippled" CDs will bring an end to CD burning and ripping. I for one have a Sony audio CD player connected to my sound card and if I cannot rip or burn a CD due to "crippling" I just pop that CD into the Sony player and rip it from there. It works great and has not flawed yet.

  21. Absentee voting on Indecision 2002 · · Score: 1, Interesting

I currently reside in South Korea so I have to vote via absentee ballot and I often wonder if my vote is really counted. I am reassured now though to hear that everyone else who has "turned out" to vote in person, will have the same insecurites that I have towards voting. Perhaps someday they will have a system that works...

"A show of hands from those who vote for the Republican Nominee" ...for now I guess we are stuck with the same 'ol buggy systems...kinda like a Microsoft Product.

I enjoy Adult Swim. It is always fun to get a 12 pack and sit with friends and watch some hilarious cartoons, but the Anime was very out of place. You had comedies like Harvey Birdman Atty. at Law and Home Movies, then you had Cowboy Bebop. To quote a famouse Sesame Street tune:

"One of these things does not belong here. One of these things is not the same"

Don't get me wrone I love Anime but there are better slots for it on CN.
