Thanks to the KDE guys the command line is almost dead. I hope it gets nuked, because it IS obsolete (despite what the zealots say) Kde 3.1(or 2) should be enough to keep even advanced users from touching it. Now if they added a 'konfigure' app. which did that./configure make su -c "make install" thingy I would be very happy.
Linux (except for bloatzilla) is VERY fast on old (>500mhz) systems. On the other hand, it chokes on any system with less than 64 mb ram. Slot in some more memory, and its amazing. The internet was painfully slow on a 56k, but install a cable modem and its fast again. 3d games are slow with software rendering no matter WHAT the speed, but set up hardware rendering and then you can simply plonk a new card in to the agp slot and the difference is great!
Macromedia and Abode are the two major companies holding linux back, we need to start a huge petition to get them to port ALL their products to linux, do that, and a HUGE number of people will no longer need windows.
Africa, South America, Europe and Asia Are all concidering/moving to alternative systems like linux, soon Microsoft will only have the USA left. I like linux and as a resident of europe, I hope this will succeeed. LINUX IS BETTER than windows, and it gets easier to configure all the time, microsoft will have to adapt or die
All my cable company (Telewest) did to my internet connection (after drilling, setting up the cables etc) did was plug the cable modem in to the ethernet port, ran ipconfig in a c:\ prompt and ran ping a few times to check it was working, nothing else. I even seen him do it.
