I'm surprised that someone hasn't required noisemakers on bicycles for the same reason.

Then you can explain how DVD player manufacturers are forced to sign an agreement stating that their players will allow Hollywood executives and lawyers to determine what you can and can't do in your living room. Anyone who makes a DVD player that circumvents Hollywood's protections, or otherwise helps you to do what would otherwise be perfectly legal, will run afoul of the DMCA.
How do these DRM-related agreements relate to DVD players that can upconvert, or can play DivX files? Wouldn't Hollywood execs consider the ability of a DVD player to show a movie in DivX format that was ripped from a DVD to be "circumventing the protections" of the original DVD?
Hmmmm. I always heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So in order for God to not be insane, he only created this one universe:)
Yeah, it is rather sad, but we were discussing trees in my graph theory class, and we got into a discussion about different names for them... The Larch.

I hope this beta product is released (to the mice) before it's destroyed. Of course, I hear that a backup copy exists somewhere.

Carbon nanotubes are not superconductors... they have a resistance that is independent of length... the resistance of an individual nanotube is about 20 kOhms
So I guess you could say that the nanotube itself really is a superconductor, but each end has a resistance of around 10kOhm - and it's impossible to build a tube without ends.
Why would it be impossible? Couldn't you join the ends of a tube to make it a torus?
And if you did this, would the tube still have a 20Kohm resistance? If it didn't, you should be able to induce a current in the loop, and it continue to flow, just like superconducting magnets.
Why not just take a portable dvd player (7" for $129) and put a DVD into it filled with all your favorite pictures, then it'll display them. Then you just mount the thing in a frame.
Have you tried this? (I did.) The picture quality on the low-end 7" DVD players is crap. Even an 800x600 LCD screen would look wonderful compared to one of the cheap DVD player screens.
At least not easily. You would need to spin the disc down and reverse the direction to read the spiral track on the other side. Remember that clockwise on one side of the disc means counter-clockwise on the other side.

Okay, you don't have to guess... you can count them.

For those who don't get the reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horta_(Star_Trek)

You can control your current phone this way. Unfortunately, the only command available through this interface is "disconnect call".
Is it in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'?

Um, did you bother to check the "from the ... department" text for this thread?
Actually, the word "overload" is kind of overloaded on subtley different definitions too.
I for one welcome our acronym overloads.
Excuse me, I own the trademark to the work "global". You will need to rename this thread "Welcome to the Globle Economy."
Thank you.
