Uhg, we killed Chromaggus on Thursday with crazy crazy lag (like, the game would completely freeze up for 6 seconds, then pick up where it left off). Well, after killing him and raising the 5 dead people; 10 seconds later everyone in Blackwing Lair got disconnected. The BWL instance server crashed. Well, we didn't get a chance to loot the body or even see what he dropped. I still have a ticket open over the matter... as our Guild Master still has a ticket open over Onyxia when the same thing happened 4 days earlier.

The servers are having issues, and Blizzard knows about it. They are the largest MMO ever out there.. and I don't think they exptect this. I've called up their tech support and talked with the guy on there for a while. He basicly said as much as a level 1 tech support would know... basicly said to just read the WoW forums, as all information that he has is already posted on there. He said he was in a raiding guild and has been having the same problems... it's just something we have to put up with. If you don't want to put up with the lag, do what he suggested.. roll an alt on a low pop server (or a new one). Those servers are quiet and not all lagged up.

Agreed, but the world (at least the US) is all about PR. Would you want NASA putting together a really cool looking matrix style video about a space shuttle blowing up? It may be cool to watch, but it would upset a lot of people out there.

But non-official people get a hold of the video and make it all interesting to watch. Hence all the shows on TV that shows off video about horrifying events. "Worlds most [*] Videos", "Maximum Exposure", and many others.

There is entertainment value in the videos for people that aren't connected to the content in the videos. But when you have something like a Space Shuttle blowing up, it really hurts the entire country. There may be only 7 people within the vehicle, but the shuttle represents our (the US) country. Many Americans won't want to be entertained by a disaster that occurs with one of our show ponies. The video is ok to be watched, but not for pure entertainment value. It should be watched for education value.

This is like watching the Discovery Channel or the History Channel. They will show video from the 9/11 attacks, but it will be in an educational format instead of an entertainment format. I think most people's jaws would drop if they saw some matrix style video of someone's body hitting the ground after they jumped out of an 80th story window.

Having one "Monolithic" application for email/calendar is rather nice to have. While I'm at work, I have a minimum of 5 programs running in my Taskbar at any given time while I'm programming. Having a single application to do Email/Calendar is nice at this point, because it is one less window I have to keep track of while coding.

This is the same reason I use Firefox at work over IE. Tabbed browsing keeps down the number of windows I have opened at any given time (especially with the TabbedBrowing plugin).

Also, my company is completely Office/Exchange based, and Outlook is really the only good program at communicating with an Exchange server. I know there are all those optional programs out there (like Evolution Connector and Groupcal for iCal). But nothing is as good as Outlook is. And getting my company to buy it for me is pretty hard to do since they already bought Office.

  21. Re:For OS X: Entourage 2004 on Where is the Killer Calendar? · · Score: 2, Informative

It seems like most major universities have some kind of deal with Microsoft to let students buy Office for cheap. Most of the time you can check with your schools IT department to see if your school is part of the program. And sometimes the school isn't part of the program, but individual colleges within the university are enrolled in the program. (The Computer Science dept I went through had the Microsoft agreement before the entire school did).

And for people that graduated from College and are in the real world (and the people that didn't go to college), some larger companies have a deal with Microsoft to let you get MS Office for cheap. You'll again have to talk with your IT department or whoever, to see if your company is enrolled in the "Home Use Program". https://hup.microsoft.com/

So what if you buy a Powerbook or any other Apple hardware right now? There will be a new release in a year (maybe longer if problems turn up during the transition). That is the normal lifecycle of any computer hardware you buy. There being a processor change for the Apple systems won't matter much to the end user when it comes down to it.

I could see right now being a good time to buy a Apple product. With a change this big coming soon, Apple has the chance of not releasing any new PowerPC based systems for a while (if ever again). And Apple has already said they will be supporting the PowerPC architecture for a long time to come. They won't ditch all the users the are currently using the PowerPC based systems. Especially in the server market (all the xServer g5 systems). And if Apple is like most other computer companies out there, they will continuing supporting current products for a long time to come (3-5 years).
