I'm too negative. I tend to agree. I consider it a valuable asset to my engineering discipline (routing out potential issues/failures, etc), but it tends to overflow into my general outlook on life, which is not such a good thing.
It's a work-Life balance thing that we often need to spend more effort on than people in other disciplines.
I've been dreading the day when I'd bork my WinXP and I'd have to consider ponying up for Vista. Even with a dual boot WinXP/Linux, I'd become dependent on WinXP out of laziness once I bought Warcraft III and discovered DOTA:)
Well, it finally happened a few weeks ago. No looking back now - I bit the bullet and reformatted the whole kit and kaboodle and installed Ubuntu 8.04 as my only OS to see how long I could go without Windows. Getting Warcraft/DOTA working on Wine was the point of no return. Boot up time is a fraction of what it used to be without all the usual Windows and antiVirus/spyware overhead crud. Everything else is much snappier and I no longer need to fear the day when I have to deal with Vista.
I'll take your derivative one step further.
It'll be based on MakesMoreSense, but it will replace all of the free bits with proprietary binaries.
I think I'll call it WinBuntu
Any reason this couldn't be done today (at least for Firefox)? I'm not too familiar with the Firefox architecture - could one write a Python interpreter plug-in, for example, that would have sufficient integration with the browser to replace Javascript?
All it would take is one example to set the bar for others to follow.
My laptop doesn't come equipped with $15k power cables, so obviously the picture is going to lack quality in all sorts of subtle and unquantifiable ways.
My home town of Sarnia, Ontario is on the other side of the Blue Water Bridge. When I look out from there, I see a lot of refineries dumping shit into the air and river.
Yes, this was often the case with initial CD releases of back catalog material in the early/mid 80's. Lazy or clueless record companies often used master tape copies EQed and intended for LP cutting as sources for CD releases. The result would be what you have experienced: overly bright and lacking bass.
This led to the inevitable remasters that followed in subsequent decades, most of which put in the effort to locate 1st gen master tapes (or remixes from the source multi-tracks in extreme cases), as opposed to LP masters.
The Led Zeppelin box set remasters in the early 90s is a well known example. Guitarist/producer Jimmy Page claimed the original CD releases were based on LP masters without his consent.
One of the geek squaders tried to convince me that the AMD64 laptop I was looking at was 32x faster than the 32bit version. When I challenged him on the stupidity of that statement, he admitted I had to upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate to take advantage of the AMD64.
This DorkStick actually tried to up-sell me to Vista in his back peddling!
I ordered him to turn in his Slashdot ID at the nearest kiosk.
Don't forget that vinyl has variable linear velocity. As the needle approaches the center of the record, the velocity of the medium under the stylus is reduced, along with the frequency response. Track ordering often took this into consideration to ensure the least demanding content finished off a side of a record. One of the few advantages of the wax cylinder over the vinyl disc:)
Don't forget that vinyl masters are subject to limiters (to keep needles from jumping grooves) and equalization to compensate for the non-flat frequency response of the vinyl medium. Two wrongs don't make a right.
I'll stick to digital, thanks.
I've been running dual boot XP and Ubutnu (Edgy) on my ADM64. One of these has a future, the other does not. I'm giving the newly released Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon a run through and I'm impressed.
I'm weening myself off Microsoft and have no intention of looking back. The freedom is refreshing.

Add one more to the converted masses.

and I thought he was going to finish that with "and it goes THIS fast!!!", as he waves his finger across his face as fast as he can.
That's how my brother and I used to measure seconds when we were 5 years old. Accurate to within 500% (your mileage may vary).

Perhaps the checks and balances should be in place to file an individual as dead. How is it possible to do this via a data entry error?

Not even Roger Clemens on roids (wait, was that redundant?) is able to throw it hard enough to break orbit.
I hear JSR-12987372 is on the way to create an industry-standard interpretation of the mySQL licensing.

That's because both of you moved there for the same reason ;)
I love Vista...
from a distance (not on my hardware, for sure)
for comic relief
That's crazy talk - no planet is beyond the reach of the RIAA and MPAA lawyers, who will quickly put an end to such nonsense.
I did a quick search, didn't see it.
This is as good a topic as any to ask:
Who won the user id 1000000 lottery? Please, stand up and announce yourself?
Don't tell me they fell for the old 2=1 trick!

You want vintage? I picked up one of these for my daughter: http://www.thisoldtoy.com/new-images/images-ok/900-999/FP995-EB81909379-B.JPG/ Better battery life than my mp3 player and fewer cracks and pops than any vinyl I've ever owned. Definitely more wow and flutter, if that's your thang.

Apparently, the key to the universe is the quack.
Is this Bill or Steve?

I see that George Lucas is on board to develop the Windows 7 wallpaper.
I think you're being a little harsh on George Clooney.
My 128bps mp3s are less than danceable on my existing cables. This must be what I need.
