This is a surprise? Here is a nice quote on abuse of the Patriot Act:
"Within six months of passing the PATRIOT Act, the Justice Department was conducting seminars on how to stretch the new wiretapping provisions to extend them beyond terror cases," said Dan Dodson, a spokesman for the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. "They say they want the PATRIOT Act to fight terrorism. Then, within six months, they are teaching their people how to use it on ordinary citizens."
I think/. should have a disclaimer on every outsourcing related story that mentions that their parent company, VA Software, has sent American jobs overseas.
As a guy in the 18-34 bracket, I find it more convenient to just download commercial free SVCD episodes of TV shows I want to watch. You can usually find them a couple hours to a couple of days after they air live. I usually let a couple weeks worth of episodes build up, then just have a mini-marathon of Alias or Simpsons or whatever.
It's cheaper than a TiVo and I get to keep stuff permanently. Also, I can enjoy The Sopranos and (before it was canceled..) Jeremiah without having to cough up $$$ for the expensive channels.
This reminds me of a line from Larouche in Adaptation:
I'm training myself on the internet. It's fascinating. I'm doing pornography. It's amazing how much these suckers will pay for photographs of chicks. And it doesn't matter if they're fat or ugly or what.
Paying for crappy porn.. that's bad. But paying 30 bucks for a stupid icon? These people are dumber than that guy that loves his spam.
It pisses me off that no American company today would ever do something like this. Our leaders have sold our technological infrastructure out for quick $$$. The boobs may have T-shirts -- made in China, no doubt -- that say "America is #1", but it hasn't been for a long time. Japan and the other Asian countries do all the cool stuff now. Come on, could you see Ford or GM doing this?
Same here. We are an all Dell shop, and thus basically all Western Digital. Performance is great (just check any of the reviews at this site), but they die all the time! At first, I thought it was just the crappy cooling in Dell cases, but then I started seeing lots of dead WD drives in well ventilated cases.
Until WD improves its QC, I will stay away. In the last year, I've bought Seagate, Maxtor, and Hitachi drives -- all without issue.
The WD Raptor is super sexy, especially in the new 74GB flavor, but I just can't risk another WD drive.
According to the IMDB trivia for Gangs of New York:
19th century New York was recreated on the lot of Cinecitta studios in Rome. When George Lucas visited the massive set, he reportedly turned to Scorsese and said that sets like that can be done with computers now.
When I saw TPM and AOTC, I thought the effects were really cool and impressive, but not 'realistic.' They looked too perfect. I think if Scorsese had seen ROTK in 2002, he might have decided to use computers for the sets. Peter Jackson has definitely raised the bar.
XP has been out for a couple years now, and I've tried 'upgrading' a couple times, but I always come back to Win2k. It is amazingly stable, fast, and compatible with every Windows app I've tried. The interface is clean and simple -- not like the fruity looking XP default one. With a little tweaking (and a good firewall, of course), you can make it relatively secure too.
Yes, I know MS sucks, but they did a great job with Win2k.
Jeez, this just smacks of desperation. The article also states HP is getting into flat screen TV's. Gateway has been selling these things for over a year now. This is as bad as their big launch of crappy consumer electronics (like the HP DVD Movie Writer, a device that converts VHS to DVD+R... not the more widely compatible DVD-R format).
It's really painful to watch HP crash and burn. Thanks, Carly!
If you trying to decide between an ATI and an Nvidia, don't forget Matrox! Both ATI and Nvidia have been busted for pumping frame rates, but not Matrox! Sure, you may only get 15-20 fps, but at least you know your Matrox got them honestly. They will look really beautiful too.
The Union agrees with the Supreme Court's longstanding interpretation of the Second Amendment that the individual's right to keep and bear arms applies only to the preservation or efficiency of a 'well-regulated militia'. Except for lawful police and military purposes, the possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected.

WTF? Certainly PC users don't care about the machine.
Fucking Mac snobs.

Here is a list of companies that use outsourcing.
Of course, it's OK for Apple to do that. Apple could have sold munitions to Germany in WWII and it would be OK.
