Have you tried Tools, Options, Advanced, Tabbed Browsing? You may also need want to think about Single Window Mode.
It's actually part a thunderbird problem to some extent I think (it should ask nicely before overwriting a current tab/window), Linky extension may help.
Download installer (under windows) to somewhere Boot with fav live cd that has good ntfs (I assume that it what your Win box is using) write support. Copy installer to admin startup directory (or link to installer with options you want set) Reboot
Knoppix (3.7 at least) comes with WINE pre-installed.
Just run the installer under WINE on Knoppix?
Alternatively find the *.reg file and use Knoppix/WINE to add it to the registry.
Might take some mucking around to get it to work properly from what I have seen so far. I haven't decided if my job is worth it.
My current work machine is awesome with Knoppix rather than NT 4.0. But permanently changing the registry may well show up on corporate IT scans - registry change logging, etc.

That way you can send invites to the original programmers saying if you wish to attend the laying to rest of the veritable workhorse which held up x, y and z parts of the company for 10 years and helped make $Xm.
Rather than having boss/PHB come in and say why does the VP IT access to the database no longer work? As he has been using a backdoor from 10 years ago. Or the VP comes down and says why are you deleting $Xm code investment (ie his OT bill from playing TrekWar).
Besides if the VPs show up you can get in some good schmoozing (sorry networking) so they know who you are when bonus time comes.

All the important stuff - peoples records are on the mainframes (IBM - MVS). One guy I knew was half afraid DSS (Centrelinks parent) would find where he worked (ina nother gov dept) and drag him back because he helped write the assembler code used in some of the payment processing - this was the late 1980's so the code might have been retired now.

crtl + then ctrl - (resize text) fixes it as well and is faster
