No, as the new iTMS doesn't have any movies on it.

For your illustration to work, you have to assume the iPod only works with iTunes. I won't list them here, but there are several other third party apps that people can use to transfer stuff to their iPod with.

So... it is the same as with scanners. Apple bundles their own software that they developed, but you're free to use whatever other program you find that can speak to the iPod.

Aside from the fact that the iPod Nano is only available in two colors, this isn't a fair comparison.

I didn't RTFA yet, but I'm assuming there is considerably more differences between the various versions of Vista than something as trivial as the default color scheme. I can imagine how this would seriously confuse the consumers since there are so many choices, not just Pro or Home.

Perhaps a better comparison would be if Nano A could only play AAC, Nano B could play MP3 and AAC, Nano C could play MP3 and AAC but only came with Firewire compatibility, etc.

Seriously, why exactly do you NOT want a color screen? The only thing I can think of would be price, and I doubt using a different screen would drop the sale price significantly.

And I have to disagree with your point on innovation - in my opinion, the fact that Nano doesn't use a hard drive IS a great technical innovation.

Yes, I'm sure they could, but first Apple would have to be for sale. And I doubt Steve and the Apple board would decide to sell Apple simply because a large cheque was waved in their faces. Unless they were in serious financial trouble, that is, but fortunately they appear to be doing quite well at the moment.
