  16. Re:Here to stay on Ways to Improve In-Game Advertising · · Score: 1

No, in-game advertising is NOT here to stay. We have a choice people. Sure, they might have tried putting in a few ads here and there, but it's not mainstream yet. If we, the PAYING CUSTOMERS clearly state that we don't want ads in games, that's the way it's going to be. I'm sure they'll twist and turn on a survey to say something like "85% of gamers don't mind advertising in games" but we got to fight this.

Yes it's hard work but we can't sit on our fat asses and get shit thrown at us. If you buy a game and find out it's filled with ads - return it as defective and write a good old fashioned letter to the publishing company. It doesn't have to be that long either, I'll give you an example:

    Dear assholes,

I buy games to escape reality, and as a paying customer I didn't expect to see ads in your new game Duke Nukem Forever.

Since you inserted ads into the game I felt cheated and returned the game for a refund. In the future I will refuse to buy any games from you featuring ads.

    Kind regards,

    Seymour Butts

  17. Dear advertisers / game creators on Ways to Improve In-Game Advertising · · Score: 2, Insightful

Don't put ads in the games I play. I play games to escape reality, and I pay for that priviledge. We have enough ads already. You've gone too far!

Put ads in games and I will not buy them. I'll do my best to convince all my friends who also BUY (not copy) games to do the same.

And while I have your attention:
Get rid of the cd-check. They are only a annoyance to legitimate customers and it just feels wrong that I have to download a patch from a third party to be able to enjoy a game without having to eject whatever music cd (that I bought) I'm listening to.

Last game bought: Hitman: Blood Money

    Because:
1: It's legal here in Norway (well, it was, they're talking about changing the law)
2: I subscribe to cable so I actually pay for discovery channel.

I did try to watch a few episodes on the TV but the last time I checked in they had another voice-over which totally changed the way the show felt. Imagine someone reading a transcript of the american announcer and bingo, you got it. Totally rubbish.

  21. Re:In Norway we have this database on Dutch to Open Electronic Files on Children · · Score: 1

If my memory serves me correct IBM is responsible for running the register, or atleast the hardware/software.

But yeah, it's a pretty good system and it proves that goverment keeping a database of citizens isn't neccesarily evil.

PS: All the seperate agencies (like child protection) have their own system, likewise with medical institutions, so these data aren't connected. There is also a law in place banning coorperations to request their customers SSN unless it's absolutely neccesary for identification.

  22. In Norway we have this database on Dutch to Open Electronic Files on Children · · Score: 4, Interesting

Norway has this database actually. Everyone born or moving into Norway is registered and they keep track of your parents and grandparents, where you are born, the places you have lived, when you died and if you're married / living together with someone. Every appartment even has a unique number (Mine is H0101, which is the first appartment on the first floor) so in case of emergency they can pinpoint you fairly easily.
