  2. Treo 600 buyers beware! on Verizon Crippled Bluetooth Features in Motorola V710 · · Score: 1

I bought a Treo 600 from Verizon last month. I mainly wanted a PDA/phone, but I played with the web and SMS features a little bit. Only weeks later do I find out that the web connections stay up and you get charged minutes for it, unless of course you sign up for the $50/mo data package...so I have about $850 in data charges to deal with. You can even rack up charges if someone sends you a picture, because it uses the web connection to deliver it and then stays connected...in my case, all night long while roaming. I called customer service and the second person I talked with (the 1st put me on hold for 40 minutes so I hung up) said no problem, should see the credit by Tue, but still no word except for a message on my voice mail (not a call, just dropped it into my voice mail) from someone there that gives his extension but not a phone number...customer service had to reroute me twice and I then got his voice mail...and he hasn't called back in 2 days.

I keep hearing that sort of statement, "no relation to reality", but what exactly does it mean? Did he (and I) just imagine 9/11? Or the UN Resolutions that Saddam ignored? It sounds more of an ad hominem attack with no real basis than a real objection to any particular views, which could be argued on their specific merits.

To your points on W, the "doom and gloom" is coming primarily from the media and his enemies right now. You confuse "difficult" with "bad"...the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are hard things to deal with, but he took responsibility and stepped up to the challenge instead of hiding his head in the sand (after lobbing some bombs at an aspirin factory) like his predecessor. The economy is in an upswing, jobs are being created, we just handed over sovereignty in Iraq. Rather than being manipulated by the polls, he's holding the course in an election years of all things.

  9. censorship? prudery? on U.S. Gov Agency Blunders With Keyword Blacklist · · Score: 2, Interesting

Agreed that this is a poor implementation of an internet filter, but... Calling this censorship is not quite right: the service opens up big chunks of the internet for people who never had it before, and that is a fact. It's like a complaining that someone didn't hand over the keys to their car instead of just giving you a ride. Calling it prudery is also unfair. There are several arguments for a (properly done) filter, some of them mentioned in the article. 1. US Taxpayers don't want to fund porn surfing. 2. The propaganda value within the restrictive countries is reduced somewhat if the authorities there can claim that it's just used to surf porn. 3. Likewise, people within that country that could be forces for democratic reform may be turned away by the idea that it's used for "unwholesome" purposes.

Ritalin itself doesn't last as long in your system but the Concerta capsule is designed to release it slowly throughout the day...it has an outer coating for a starting dose, and the rest is inside a permeable capsule that has the medicine at one end and some superabsorbent material at the other.
