Actually to bust your bubble google doesn't buy "xeon" or any of those fancy dancy servers. They buy cheap residenal boxes and rely on redundancy. I remember seeing some google video with that. They blow way too many servers a day. But it's simply cheaper to replace the cheap servers then it is to buy a new super power ultra server.

Once it's loaded the interface is fucked.

    Screenshot

I don't like the point that you can not have your file menu on the very top of the screen. Oviously the graphics are not done because the little box beside those tabs makes a new tab. The interface is very very quick. Switching tabs is extreamly quick. I also like that it has the middle button thingy so when you press it, a window opens up in a new tab.

It also comes with a totally cut off version of it's self (similar to the safe mode in firefox). Im guessing this is for pooched IE's that won't start or people who wish to browse with IE without plugins.

    Screenshot of Safemode

Well ... it seems safemode really doesn't want you to use it. You get a sound and that top bar flashes when you goto any site with it.

All in all ... It's IE 6 with tabs and a fucked up interface. I wonder what it will look like when it's done :)

If I couldn't of gotten some of those parts off ebay I would of payed WAY more then what I did. I got the powersupply for 10 bucks off ebay. I got the Fans for 4 bucks off ebay. I got the Thermaltake Hardcano 9 off my friend for 20 bucks. The lights in it (blacklight and the blue one) 10 bucks. All those savings add up and you get WAY more then what you pay for. I don't see a big market of macs in "pieces".
I can't go buy a case ... slap a G5 Motherboard in it ... buy my own video card and sound card etc etc.

But if you use the CD key thing as I mentioned above it changes the Windows XP to another key such as the one the anonymous user above gave, service pack 2 will install and there is no annoying blocking of Windows Updates.

Microsoft only wanted to stop the "casual pirater" considering every version of windows is already cracked. Not to sound like a mad pirate but to disable the activation is sadly VERY easy.

That's frickin it ... the "Activate me crap" dies ... and for all you tinfoil hats you don't need to reg your Windows XP. You think MS would of made it so easy if they didn't want people to pirate there OS. They would of made it so if some file isn't downloaded from there (encrypted of some kind) the OS simply won't work etc etc. No ... it's some silly regestry hack that takes less then 2 minutes to do and lasts the lifetime of the product. I know that the activation thing I mentioned above works in Windows XP MCE and Windows XP x64, im not sure about XP Pro ... if someone tries and has luck I wouldn't mind knowing.

Service Pack 2 is a breeze. I have the first copy of XP. All you have to do is Download this and copy it to the root of your C drive. Open up the "Command Prompt" and goto your root of the drive. Type in "cdkey xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx" as in x's are your SP2 compatable CD key. Once you press enter you should see nothing come up. (if somthing does then find a working key). Once your CD key is changed then Goto this site and click "Download and Deploy Service Pack 2 for multiple Computers". Once you are done that install SP2 and your done.

I know for a fact that chip couldn't handle without the fan for long ... but how hard is it to get it to run at 1000RPM's just enough to keep the air moving. It's virtually silent. (not completely silent tho). That machine idle with the fans all on low is so quiet I have to look at the lights to see if it's even on. If it's REALLY quiet in the room you can JUST hear the HDD spinning and sometimes clicking

The CPU temps at 1GHz (which is with cool and quiet on is about 30c with the fan on 1000RPMs and runs about 35c with the fan off (you can turn the fan off on speedfan).

I know for a fact my tests arn't very accurate but I was only messing around ... it does give me an idea to play around with stuff like that and get some graphs and numbers. See what I come up with.

I know also that I would never run without a fan that's just stupid. I was simply messing around to see "what I could do". I know if I stop the fan on my PPRo's for about 30 seconds that chips at 80c ... if it's a single CPU system I have a MASSIVE heatsink for the PPRo's (the size of 2 PPRo chips but just for one) about 2 minutes it's at 80 and keeps rising.

I had a single CPU PPRo 256k running at one time and put that heatsink on and forgot to plugin the fan ... I had a thermal gun thingy and it was showing 90c then the chip crashed of course. Im surprised I didn't break anything ... I just rebooted and put the fan on and it was fine.

The way CPU's are going now is good. There not getting faster (not considerably) just getting cooler. I'll have to mess around with that more and get some graphs.
