  1. Re:Fox News headline version on Wikipedia's Not as Biased as You Might Think, Say Harvard Researchers (qz.com) · · Score: 1

Actually the hard news part of FoxNews is fairly balanced. They try to present both sides, but sometimes one side or the other won't comment on the story. The shows most people call biased are commentary shows - in other words, opinions NOT news. So, yes, Hannity, O'Reilly, Megan Kelly, etc. do lean a bit to the right, but the newscasts are pretty much right down the middle.

My sense of smell is probably just shy of a bloodhound's, so food flavors are more varied for me than most I guess. For me smells have color and texture, too. People just don't understand when I say something smells brown and dusty.

People taste things differently, too. I hate cilantro, but others seem to like it. It tastes like copper or soap to me. I wonder how this new VR eating will cover variances like that.

I was thinking the same thing. And how does it actually work without some system adding a smell? Smell is a BIG part of tasting (and sex).

Try eating something like an apple while holding your nose closed. It doesn't "taste" the same. The texture may be there, but the great apple flavor is somewhat off.

You would think so at first glance, but when you vote by absentee ballot nobody knows you're voting that way. If your boss tells you to vote a certain way or lose your job, you can tell him you vote in person and can't take a photo of your ballot.

Of course if you're selling your vote, absentee ballots make sense. But in that case, you're just an idiot who would probably make a poor choice on your own anyway.

I've voted absentee since the late 70s. If I didn't tell anybody I voted that way, nobody would ever know.

That's just not done in the utility business. You simply don't "move, alter, or rearrange" another utility's lines. If you cut a line of any kind or interrupt service without calling first, you pay. Google needs to learn how to get along with everybody else. They have to play by the rules, too.

I'm 63 and have fairly good near vision. I mostly need glasses for vision from a few feet to infinity. There's no problem with sites using a high contrast scheme, but those where the background is gray and the text is light gray are impossible to read. I usually hit CTRL-A to select all the text. It's not perfect, white text on dark blue, but it helps.

True, but if you talk to the brick&mortar stores or listen to the politicians (who want the tax revenue), you'd think that online sales are at 90% of all retail sales and climbing.

Amazon recently "reached an agreement" with my state. Starting next month Amazon will collect 8% sales tax on purchases made from my state. The problem is, my state sales tax is only 4%. Who gets the rest? My guess is Amazon, maybe with some kickback to the politicians who agreed to the deal. I have no proof; I just know how politicians are.

It looks like my days of ordering tons of stuff from Amazon are over. I may order a few items, IF the price +tax is better than other online retailers who still don't charge sales tax.

My thought has always been that sales tax should be collected at the point of purchase. If it were, online companies would be moving to states with lower sales taxes. That might be just the incentive that high tax states need to lower their damned taxes.

My job involves traveling long distances twice a week. I'm not commuting daily; I'm just going to where I'm going to be working during the week. If I have to be in another state 300 or 400 miles from home in a reasonable amount of time, I have to have a vehicle that can get me there. Sure, it would be nice to have an electric-powered pickup truck, but where do I find a motel in a small town in the middle of nowhere with charging capability?
