The first sentence in the summary needs a slight correction.
It reads, "Around the world, dictatorships and democracies alike are attempting to restrict access to strong encryption that governments cannot decrypt or bypass on demand."
It should say, "Around the world, dictatorships and democracies with governments wanting to become dictatorships are attempting to restrict access to strong encryption that governments cannot decrypt or bypass on demand."
Europeans don't know any better. Try living in the U.S. outside of the major metro areas, and you'll find plenty of room, lots of good schools, good jobs, short commutes, and lots of peace & quiet. A bonus is living in a low-crime neighborhood.
I have Charter cable and it's great, but for sports on local channels I go with my rabbit ears. It's OTA uncompressed HD and even though Charter's picture is fine, the difference is very visible. Sports, especially football, is all I ever watch on my local channels.
I also get an average 66 Mbps from their internet service and I see no need for anything faster right now. I don't have a 4K television so I don't have any experience with needing to stream 4K, but I think the service I have now can probably handle it.
That they think of themselves as "politicians" is the problem. The voters don't think of them that way. The voters (most are woefully naive and uninformed) think they're voting for "statesmen".
What really makes me chuckle is when a politician accuses another politician of playing politics. What else would they be doing, real work???
I've got four farts . . . my Heineken fart, my broccoli fart, my rice pudding fart, and my non-dairy creamer fart, and that's not one of my farts! I know, the DOG farted!
The reason the U.S. can keep going is that the Fed can print money and lend it to the government. The Federal Reserve is not part of the government and makes money on the money it lends. The tax money you pay doesn't really go where you think it goes. Why do you think our money says "Federal Reserve Note" on the bills?
And they don't answer to anybody. Politicians who try to control the Fed don't last very long.
According to our Constitution the government is supposed to be the ones printing the money, not some non-governmental central bank. Central banks are evil and we never should allowed one to take control
One of these days there will be a day of reckoning and it won't be pretty. I hope I'm dead before that happens.
Ask a Christian, and they will say they hate the sin, not the sinner. Then all you're left with is whose definition of sin do you use? Not exactly the criteria God uses to determine entrance through the gates.
You can continue to vilify and misunderstand Christians til the cows come home, but you won't change them.
I think you may be on to something. It's that damned rebel flag! So far everything one can think of has been blamed on the flag. Must be responsible for these shark attacks, too.
Those are the main two. Let's take a look at my work week that starts tomorrow.
I leave home in a pickup truck and drive 267 miles to a motel. Assuming the motel has a recharging station, I guess I could recharge overnight before going to work Monday morning, but what are they going to charge to sell that electricity?
Assuming they have a recharging station and the cost is reasonable, I can work Monday through Friday as usual, putting about 100 miles per day on the vehicle.
What about Friday? After a day's work how do I recharge fast enough to make it home? Sure, I'd have some miles left after working to make a little ways up the road, but what then? Stay in another motel Friday night to recharge my vehicle? That makes it pointless to even try to make it home for the weekend.
Ideally an electric-powered work truck like mine would have at least a 300 mile range, and recharging would take 15 minutes or less. If we get the technology to that point, then my company would consider replacing our fleet.
There are several apps on my Galaxy s5 that cannot be disabled. Some are Samsung apps and some are AT&T apps. The "Disable" button is there, but is greyed out. All I can do is force stop them and they'll return anyway. It's enough to make me wanna pull my hair out.
At least they won't update. I have auto update turned off.
Those "nasties" in the upper atmosphere would be enough to destroy the solar cells he'd need for energy, and how long would his 1" thick steel hull last when it came into contact with "clouds of the noxious material"?
It does look like it was designed for preschoolers. I wonder how much it can be changed to look like a working computer and not a poor imitation of my phone.
You know where's it at, but you don't know how to spell it? It's Stevenson, not Stephenson.
And I'd hate to commute from either Chattanooga or Huntsville. The roads are not great, and it would take longer than you estimate, especially with traffic.
I've been a Charter customer for years and I am totally satisfied. I have super fast and reliable internet service with no data caps and never even a hint of throttling.
And every month AT&T sends me a letter offering "high speed" internet service that's less than one tenth as fast. Ha, fat chance!
Scalia is right, and the Republic is officially dead. There's no coming back from the slippery slope of SCOTUS re-writing law to please the administration. Congress is just a rubber stamp for whatever the administration wants nowadays. Almost like a dictatorship, wouldn't you say?
It's over. Welcome to Fascist America. You all wanted it. Hope you're happy.
It's easy to see how many slashdotters have no clue about international relationships or history, and how many are simply naive.
I don't know why adults even hang around here anymore.

It's called freedom and I love it.

How about one from George Carlin?

Webb Hubble? Chelsea Clinton's father? :)

Oh, and by the way, God's Son is God.
I've already got the popcorn popped and the news on.
Giorgio, is that you?

I can't seem to find the InFormEnter extension for Chrome.
It's the one addon that keeps me using Firefox. Cyberfox works well, but I can't add InFormEnter to it.

no fucking way. Somebody needs to be fired at Microsoft.
We all know how to handle this "feature", but most people won't have a clue.
This is right up there with their leaving file extensions hidden by default.
Don't get used to paying with cash. The government and the financial industry want to do away with cash.
My guess is that most slashdotters would happily go along with doing away with cash.

Does this mean I can force a baker to make me a cake with a Confederate flag on it?

Better wait until you get home to open that beer here in Alabama!
So Google just did something evil, thereby violating their unofficial policy.
They've always been evil, though.
