    I'm beginning to think that it's not so much which form of government you have at the top, it's all the bloated bureaucracies that are the problem - unionized government workers who are damned near impossible to fire and who make more than their equivalents in the private sector. They have no incentive to do any more than enough to get by. Plus, all those alphabet agencies make regulations by the ton (because they CAN) because it justifies their existence and massive budgets.

    I don't have a problem with unions in the private sector because you can push a company only so far before it fails. But government has really deep (practically bottomless) pockets, and politicians are quick to oblige any requests from their favorite campaign donors.

    Result? Idicocracy in real life.

    Thankfully I can find non-alcohol gasoline around here to use in my small engines. Everything - riding mower, push mower, trimmers, leaf blower, chainsaw - runs better with no alcohol.

    The guy who owns the station where I buy the gasoline says that it's all he uses in his car and van. He says the increased mpg more than offsets the higher price.

    Remember that the "eye for an eye" statement was actually a limitation on punishment. You couldn't get the death penalty for stealing a man's goat. You had to give the man a goat to make up for the one you stole, no more no less. "An eye for an eye" should be read as "no more than an eye for an eye".

    It makes sense when you understand the meaning and don't simply rely on what you've been told.

    Everybody is saying exactly what one would expect them to say about this subject. Slashdot is not representative of the general public by a long shot.

    Just to make a point to be on topic, the bad grammar and misspelled words I see here all too frequently are evidence that computers DID negatively impact your learning ability. Thank God I was out of school before computers became commonplace in schools!

    He's just a politician, not a saint. They're all like that no matter which party they're in. Government's main concern is government; they couldn't care less about you or anybody else.

    The best you can do is vote for the lesser of evils. And please vote incumbents out of office. The longer they stay there, the more power hungry and corrupt they get.

    is the rate of inflation wrong? We don't calculate the CPI the way we did just a few years ago. That's why it seems that everything you buy nowadays is going up with each visit to the store, but the government still claims a fairly low rate of inflation.

    Go to http://www.shadowstats.com and read about it. I trust Walter William's calculations a LOT more than I trust government's.

    I'm happy with my Charter cable and internet service. I get every channel Charter offers including all the premium channels. Internet is 30/5, and most times I get over 45 downstream. Cost is only $126/month. That's over $40 LESS than I was paying for fewer channels in 2001 and much slower internet. Plus, back in 2001 there was no HD or DVR service. Yeah, I'm happy. Quit yer bitching.

    There would be explosions with massive loss of lives and property damage. Believe it. I'm one of the very few dedicated people who do natural gas leak surveys. I find gas leaks that are, or could be, dangerous. If you live in one of the Southeastern states, there's a good chance I've walked through your yard or driven past your house at some point over the past 38 years.

    I've tried to come up with a way that my job could be automated, but I can't think of any. It requires boots on the ground, so to speak. Maybe one day somebody will come up with a small drone equipped with a laser that can fly through yards and over fences and behind bushes and dodging bad dogs, but I'm not holding my breath.

    I don't mind them going after the crooks, but many of those listed are perfectly legal activities. It seems like a huge overreach to me. The DOJ should stick to investigating criminals, even the ones in the current administration.

    My local newspaper is down to printing only three days a week. Not too many years ago they printed two editions per day seven days a week. I subscribe to just the Sunday edition, but that's just to get the ads and the sports columns.

    Short of choosing our representatives at random, I don't know what the solution may be. The last campaign finance law didn't work.
