Its funny you say that since my job is fixing computers and getting peoples networks up. Most of them DO use webmail and like it that way, even if they can change it.
I think thunderbird is an amazing mail client. But as said above many people dont use mail client any more. Most people use webmail, even when a mail client is avalible. When people do use a mail client most of the time its Outlook. We need a spread thunderbird campain, it probably would help with the spam/worm problem.
Well first off im a pasifist unless you have absolutly no choose, and here I think there is a better solution(I do not know what it is but im sure one will be found). The stance we should take is by bouncing the spam to the spammer's ISP's admin and/or company who they are spamming for. Urge people NOT to buy from spammers. Urge law makers to have harsh punishments for spammers. All these things are great ways to make a stand without doing something "violent."
The part of me that hates spammers says "yes its right."
The moral part of me says "no its wrong two wrong dont make a right"
The fact is it is wrong and illegal to DoS anyone even if they are a spammer. Also remember that many spammers take over machines and they send out spam, so this could be DoSing innocent people. If we really want to go after spammers we wont pay there products and report them to their ISPs for spamming.
First off I think the id choose OSS because they simply took the audio engine from Quake III. As far as I know all Quake III based games(et rtcw) are in stero, at least on linux.
The real question I have is why didn't id use OpenAL? They already used OpenGL for the graphics part OpenAL is just as portable and compatible with everything(Linux OSS, ALSA, Win, Mac, BSD, ect).
Its runs on BSD as well. Plenty of people do take linux seriously thats why its the #2 OS on the market. Most apps that run on FreeBSD are originaly made on linux and then ported to BSD. Just a few people do some things you dont agree with dosnt mean there a script kiddie.
I would go with knoppix, KDE is much more windowizy and many windows users cannt even tell the difference. It is very user friendly and has alot of extra apps that are really usefull.
If they finally decide to make the switch I would strong suggest Fedoria. Its very easy to install and update/maintain. The only thing I would suggest is for them to just burn all there files on a CD before installing.
Anyway goodluck on your mission!
Im giving those media devices as an example. M$ is going to the hole media market, anything that plays video/audio they are going into. M$ is pushing its own wma/wmv formates onto everything.
Microsoft has had this recent trend to push a stripped down version of Windows XP on all "Media Devices." I was at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology were M$ launched the Windows Media Center or what ever its called for devices like this. While linux might do it better M$ has done all the hard work for these companies and made it intigrated into Win XP so its "easier for users." Ive played with a few of these and found it anything but easy. This is just M$s way of competing with the iPod.
I am leading a group of developers to develop a fully multiplatform game. The two main libs we use are OpenGL(graphics API) and OpenAL(audio API). This has been done successfully many times, look at idsoftware they infact say it makes them code better for more stable games. If its done right all you'll need is a few lines of code changed and a recompile. If people just got off DX and went open stands it would be easy.
I run my own computer repair biz after school. Many times my customer has a spyware problem so after I fix it I always put mozilla on. I have always seen spyware go down because of mozilla, and the spyware that does go on is cookies, no apps!!! My customers love mozilla for all the great features it has and the speed, not one has complaned. The only reason I am putting mozilla on and not firefox is because mozilla is stable and firefox is not, once firefox becomes stable I will start putting it on.
Oh ya just my 2 cents about the IE only webpages. Im on Linux and everytime I click the "Enter Anyway" link everything works fine so there all bs.
Im currently writing this on my machine with a Gentoo 2.6.9 kernel(had 2.6.9-rc2 on) with an SATA drive. It works great!!! Much much faster then any IDE drive. Ive had no problems with it. To enable SATA you need to do it through SCSI, just enable SCSI and in SCSI low level drivers select your chipset. Incase you wanted to know here are my system specs.
System Specs
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Mobo: Asus A8V
SATA Controller: Promise TX4
Soundcard: SB Audigy 2 zs
Videocard: NVIDIA FX 5900 Ultra
I fix computers as an after school job. Both spyboth search and destory are great programs. The best things for prevention is to switch everyone to mozilla and get a version of Norton Internet Security 2005. Mozilla helps alot, keeping spyware out and works better then IE just in general. Norton Internet Security 2004/2005 has spyware detection and removal.
I have had a PDA since 6th grade, the Palm m100. I now have the Palm Tungsten T2. I keep everything in it. My entire schedual and everything I have to do is on it, I sometimes take some quick notes, I have a dictionary and a few games to pass the time. I would be really disorganized without it. I too am a big Linux advocate, all I use is Linux. I would of gotten the Zaurus if it wasnt so exspensive and I do think it should be a bit cheaper. The thing I really like about it is all the features it has, and how many Linux programs (gaim xine etc) have been ported to Zaurus. Its too bad Sharp didnt push it more, next PDA I was thinking of getting it.
I do computer repair as a part time after school job. I agree with the quote from someone above saying "90% of all machines have spyware the rest are *nix based." Every win machine I look at has spyware on it at least. Many times it is the cause of the problem. There is spyware that will fuck up all of win xps fonts if you remove it just with spybot search and destory. Spyware has gotten really nasty and acts more like viruss. To prevent the spyware I put mozilla on my customers computers. I have found it helps GREATLY!!! Spyware is cut down alot from mozilla, plus mozilla has a popup killer and loads pages after then ie so most people like it. I myself am a Linux user. All of my machines run Linux and Linux only. I am very happy with Linux and a very big Linux supports. I do think that if M$ dosnt do something fast to combat spyware it WILL be Windows or at least IEs down fall.
On my desktop my coding/gaming computer I only use fluxbox. Its simple takes up very little resources and dosnt bloat my system. I only have the programs I want installed. On my laptop my school/work machine I have KDE installed. This is becasue KDE has alot of tools that are really usefull in school(for chem and trig). I dont like the look and feel of gnome and its lack of features. Anyway this hole thing about KDE/Gnome being more windowize, well they both are use fluxbox.
I bought the Pioneer DVR-108 with my new computer that I built, mainly because it has 16x +/- DVD burning, the DL was a plus. The driver was cheap but I have yet to see media for it under 9 online and all the local computer stores dont even have it in stock. Id love to burn in DL mode just to get some stuff off my harddrive though.
Im posting two questions to see if one gets answered.
1. My family and I, have always been a very liberal. Because I this we do tend to agree with the Green Party on almost everything. We vote democratic because we dont want the right wing to get in power. How do you, or the green party plan to sometime in the future become a canadate that has a good chance of winning?
2. As a very liberal American I belive in freedom, but I see more and more freedoms being taken away from the American people, such as abortion, privacy, and many others. How do you plan to get these freedoms back to the American people and put them in place so they can never be taken away agien?
Thank you,
Lee Trager

Well im excite to get the game and play it from start to finish. Even if the game isnt as great as I am hoping there will always be mods. The main reason I bought Q3A was for the mods out there, if you remember Q3A has no single player. Anyway im hoping that TuxGames gets the Doom III DVD Linux version in ASAP.
This is VERY bad news indeed. This is one of those things that could start a World War. WWI was started with an assasination, image what one nuke could do. The North Koreans could use it, which honestly I doubt since Korea would be united agien by it, there would be no north. What could happen is since they are depirate for money is they could sell it to someone and then they use it. The other is that moron president of ours does his stupid "preemptive" war, though they dont have oil. Lets just hope Keary wins.

Yes but that mouse costs from 100 to 200 dollars. This is much much cheaper.

What I mean is I have a bunch of C++ stuff thats about 6 gigs(old code tutorials and such). Id like to keep it all together.

Ya as part of this tech conference i get to go. You can find out more about it at NYLF.org
