Working for a local government, it does not matter what the IT department recommends or requires in a project. Sometimes upper management just don't get it, and cut things out of projects to save a buck. One example I can think of was hand holds. At a few hundred dollars a pop, we wanted hand holds every so many yards (can't recall number several years later), and also require them at turns > than 45 degrees. That way if we needed to branch off, we could do it at a turn (usually at a street intersection). When the project got approved somewhere up the chain, locate wires, and the hand holds at turns got eliminated.
When we added a new building on line, we ended up having to pay additional cost for a single hand hold, and putting fiber across a street... A couple months later, the fiber was cut b/c there was no locate wire to locate the cable that had not been reported to dig test, because it would cost too much according to engineering.
Stinks that that kind of oversight for a few dollars costs the tax payers in the end. Things like backups, locate wires etc are called insurance, maybe us IT Folk should start calling it that... Insurance.
It seems like they're just making it different to be different and dumbing it down even dumber than it already was. Is there some sensible reason why the GUI needs to be so substantially changed?
I am currently using vista on my desktop, was going to use 64 bit, but that had issues. So back to 32 bit, and not able to use all my memory. I figured Vista 7 64bit would be my savior. After about 2 hours messing around with it, back to vista. It dumbed down so many things, I could no longer stand it. I had a list of things I did not like about it, but I will withhold reservations until the final product is released. I will say this though, it booted faster than vista.
My biggest complaint is their new shiny task bar. If I have 6 (I know I use tabs too) instances of Chrome, I can pretty much identify them by looking at my vista taskbar w/ the titles. Now you have to go to one icon, hover over it to see pretty preview windows. I could care less. It appears they are trying to mimic what OSX (possibly others) where everything looks the same, no quick launch. It was my biggest annoyance.
I don't see what all the hoopla is w/ Vista, but I am getting old enough where I can't keep up with 4 different versions of operating systems. Actually my dads office is horrible, they still have windows 3.11 on their network!
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram w/ HEMI & MDS.
I can't answer everything, but my wife did a test last weekend and she said the MPG was 13mpg w/ cruise set at 65mph! I think she must have been riding the brake or something because the weekend before I had taken my truck to Houston.
On the trip down there I averaged about 70mph while on cruise. MPG was at 19.6.
On the trip back I changed my speed to 75mph and got 18.5MPG.
Unfortunately, I wish there was a light when MDS kicks on. I would love to change my driving habits to try and keep MDS enabled as much as possible.
Another note.
When driving to my old Job - 3.9miles away. I would average about 11.2MPG in City. I had 3 stop signs and one traffic light on the trip.
When driving to my new job 13.9 miles away I am averaging 13.1MPG. I have 2 Stop Signs, and probably 12-14 Traffic lights. Fortunately they are timed pretty well that I tend to keep moving about 35 MPH.
3G coverage is available only in certain markets. See coverage map. If your total data usage in any billing cycle is more than 1GB, your data throughput for the remainder of that cycle may be reduced to 50 kbps or less. Your data session, plan, or service may be suspended, terminated, or restricted for significant roaming or if you use your service in a way that interferes with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users. Some devices require specific data plans; if you do not have the right plan for your device, you may not be able to use data services. Some downloads, such as movies, music, and games, not included. Domestic use only.
If his ramblings are true, that what you see can influence what you do. I guess after reading his mumbo jumbo. I am going to turn into a jack ass attorney. (Someone save me please). Shoot me with that RPG you purchased b/c you played GTA4
Well that just stinks. I am pretty liberal, and I live in Texas. So my vote for president is pretty much worthless, dang conservatives! But I can be bought for a good deal of money, say 15 million after taxes? I like the idea of the poster w/ the island.
I can tell you how to get this project done fast, and get there even faster. Just whisper to George Dub that al qaeda has a new insurgent hq on Mars. We will invade Mars so fast, and set up a military installation (Mars Base) for at least 50 years.
This almost makes me want to get comcast, hook up my VOIP to their network, and then have an emergency where I can't dial E911 b/c they are blocking calls. OOoh that sounds like a lawsuit ready to happen. I can't wait. Yay for E911!
Back in 83 I got a BBC Acorn Micro. Had 2x5-1/4 floppy, My dad got me an adapter for his stero system so I could load tape based games. It ran Basic. I remember having all kinds of games back then. PACMAN, PolePosition, Galaga, Elite, All kinds. Really fun. The word processor came on a PROM that you put into the machine:)
Changing the oil every 3000 benefits the oil companies. Every 6000 benefits the car manufacturers. 4500 miles is about right?
High flow air filters improve gas milage.
High flow exhausts, borla, magnaflow, gibson, aeroturbine etc. do something w/ back pressure to increase horse power.
Cars rated HP is at the crank not the wheel. how close is the rated hp @ crank vs. wheels.
Spoilers do make a difference on small sports cars, or are they just hidious.
Gas milage on a car by the EPA is rated by emissions not by actual driving tests.
Ok, The link takes me to my google homepage. Can someone mirror what is on that page so we can all see what we are missing, not being on wifi, and not able to see what is on that crazy page?
The guy that had the open access point should be arrested, and have his internet connection turned off by his provider. He admitted he left his access point open because of the old people living around him. Well I am sure that is not because locking it would cause harmful rays, it is because he was sharing his access point w/ his neighbors, and encrypting his connection would be too hard for the old people to figure out. So it looks like he is guilty of sharing bandwith from his provider, as I am sure it is against the TOS to share your connection with anyone else. Looks like the police should show this guy a visit.
What would happen if they offered a stripped down version of windows. I.E. No addons that are available by third parties.
Hmm where did my following things go....
ICONS.
Calculator
Note Pad
Word Pad
Paint
defrag
Remote Desktop Connection
Sound Recorder
Media Player
IE
Explorer (windows shell)
Picture Viewer.
Telnet
FTP
Ping
Tracert
I am sure there are a few more things that could be unbundled. The question then becomes what / how do they sell it?
If I purchased a computer from dell, they would have to put all those 'applications' on the computer. Thats no problem, but what If I wanted to build my own computer?
I buy XP stripped down. Get it installed (quickly).. And to get on the internet. Ooops, no web browser, no ftp client. Hmm now how to get my items. Maybe I will pull some files of my networked computer. Ooh I don't have any way to view files b/c explorer was not included. Looks like I will have to go down to the store & purchase a web browser, and all other kinds of tools. Individually. at about $5/ea that is an additional $75 to spend just to get windows where it is now.
I say bundle more things, I don't want to have to buy office, visual studio, etc. I want it all bundled together in one nice package.
Its kind of like dos back in the good ol' modem days. I could not get online to a bbs to download anything b/c I did not have a copy of procomm. I had to get a copy on 5 1/4 floppies from a friend so I could go get some other utilities.. I really hated that.
Look at linux, it is bundled with so much stuff, its crazy, and MS is getting the shaft for putting a media player in there. If I recall media player has been included since windows 95 (movie player / AVI)
I have Verizon Fios internet service, along with Sunrocket VoIP service. I was quite interested in finding out if 911 even connected me to the right place, as several people said it did not work w/ VoIP providers. So I called the non-emergency number in Rowlett, Tx. They answered my call, and I let them know I was going to test my 911 service as I had a new phone provider.
I hung up, dialed 911. It took maybe 3-4 seconds to get a ring tone, and the emergency operator in Rowlett, picked up the phone, and asked what my emergency was. I told her that I just called the non-emergency number, and was testing 911. She then informed me my name, and my address came thru with the call.
So looks like I don't have anything to worry about.:)
Also make sure if you are testing your 911, you call the non-emergency number first, although you never know where you might wind up.
Looking at the map, I went to see if my neighborhood was there. There are not even streets on the images. Just a big brown field. The streets were put in about 4 years ago!
Just goto the store, and start poking holes in all the packages. Ooops in 8hrs EVERY disk has gone bad. Chalk it up to a bad packaging job. Have them sent back as defective.
After reading the article, my account went upto one 1,000,000MB (at the bottom of the gmail screen). I sent a couple emails, and then it went back down to 1,000MB..
Anyone else see theirs revert back to 1,000MB?
Chris.
I think I have some, There was a ISP in Dallas, that started up around '95, I had a domain
http://prpu1.altinet.net to host my websites. The email address I had was prpu1@altinet.net
Does this not seem to be exactly what they are talking about?

In a poll conducted of a company with 1 system admins was snooping on other people. The other 2 systems admin positions were not filled.

In other news, Slashdot.org gets sued by France for deep linking to a copyrighted news article. Viva France!
Take that for not having a girl friend!
Just have a TLD of .sucks That way I can register aol.sucks
Hmm although this would give a whole lot of p0rn sites a new TLD to use she.sucks etc.
