Actually, I find pannng quite inconvinient, especially when you are trying to read. Moving the screen back and forth to get the full story is not the best thing for your eyes... at least on a 14" CRT.
Driver code is the biggest liability that a device maker has. It earns no money, it costs quite a bit to make, and it must be written multiple times for multiple platforms and operating systems.
So release the hardware specs, and let the Open Source community write the drivers for them. This lets the manufacturer cut prices, and frees them to focus on other things.
Am I right? Or would companies not go for this?
Hey! I tried to submit that!

CNN has a similar article that I tried to submit to Slashdot. It got rejected(a copy is in my journal, if you have any idea why it was rejected, comment there) and two days later, they turn around and post this article. Perhaps the editors should post the reason for a rejection...
I checked out CDBaby.com, but I was rather dissapointed with the file format they use. Because I'm currently boycotting RealAudio(they went over the line with their advertisment policies), the feature I would find most useful is inaccessable.
Perhaps you should give specific examples of why you think that it is "garbage", so that I can reinterpret them in a new light. Simply getting rid of the unconstitutional laws will not help for long, as Congress will simply pass them again in a forms.
We all know that allowing laws like the DMCA to be passed is definetly NOT what Ben Franklin had in mind for a free state. And while the New Constitution isn't perfect, I would rather have that than this.
My point was that segmentshould have read the rest of the thread before he replied. It's a practice you should generally get into when you're reading Slashdot.
What do you have against me, anyway? More importantly, what do you have against this?
Yeah, you're right. And actually, that's one of the few parts I don't like. I was just frustrated at the other posters in the thread who didn't seem to have a sense of humor.
Maybe they put serial numbers on each of the cards, so that it can only be scanned once and accepted. I don't live in the grandparent's county, so I honestly have no clue how they would stop ballot stuffers.
(Amazon and B&N are not the cheapest books every time you buy a book (they may be in this case (I checked), but in many cases, the others are much cheaper)!
Ah, yes. I can think of no better way to help the paranoid than to hook them up to a tracking system. How many do you think will starve on the streets because they don't want Big Brother watching them?
RTFA. It says right there that they're trying to prevent benefeits fraud. Save the taxpayers some money and invade the privacy of some paranoid individuals at the same time. It may even be a way of testing the waters for Totalitarian Information Awarness, seeing what kind of info they can gather this way(though this comment may give the impression that I'm wearing an aluminum hat).
We're sorry. The Slashdot crowd does not have that capibility. If you would like this feature to be added, please email CmdrTaco.
Check out your local crafts store? They usually have storage units that may be suitable for computer parts. Michael's is the best place to look.

Scary, man. At this rate, they're going to put EULAs on tricycles soon.

You use Red Hat because it's the most popular distro in your home country?

How rebellious... in a conformist sort of way.

It was a joke. Next time, read the rest of the thread before replying.
And yes, I am pissed off at Slashdot right now.
For the LAST TIME, I AM NOT the one to complain to about this this!!!
It's funny. Laugh.
Congress needs to make it illegal for corporations to buy votes from Congress members!
Because we'll all be so flexable, we can fit into anything, right?
Actually, babbage proposed that we change the logo to this.

Or mabe they just use Slashdot's system;)

You could try gamefaqs.com. They have great user reviews of games from 20 years ago. Pac-Man, anybody?
I thought there was a catch... I'll have to patch XP myself. Damn.

The point of the tracking system is to prevent fraud. We don't want clever theves getting at the taxpayer's money, now do we?
But there has to be a better way than this. Ideas, anyone?
