Sometimes I by those cheap plastic delta kites and see how high I can get them. It's a cheap date and alows for much much more talking and getting to know a girl than a movie.
They mentioned using $2 900 yard spools of monofilament at Target and Wal-mart. In my expirience the $2 spool are adequate but they break easy, have horible stretch characteristics, have massive diameter (thus weight) and are just a general pain to work with.
When I fly kites past 1,600 yards I much prefer Berkely XL or XT (6lb or higher) fishing line. Much higher quality, lower diameter, less stretch (for the XT) and very forgiving (for the XL). Of course loosing a $1 platic kite is really no big deal. My record is 3,000 yards (not straight up of course), and yes... I was to lazy to wind the whole thing back up, I snipped the line.
I should look into this ballon photography, sounds like a fun hobby.

If you havn't noticed by now we Mormons aren't all that secretive about our religion. There is whole bunch of young guys in suits, ties and name tags all over the world trying to tell people all about it.
My only real memory of BSG was how easy it was to make the bad guys ships with two paper plates and a magic marker. I'd run around all day making those stupid Cylon noises.
Speeking of Sci-Fi and Mormons. Their was a great Sci-Fi spoof called "Space Elders" on a local radio station a few years back. Two Mormon missionaries would travel all over space, running into characters from Star Wars, BSG, Star Trek, and just about every other sci-fi movie out there. IIRC, the series ended after they converted the BORG and the collective then converted the rest of the galaxy.

There aren't a lot of historical accounts of warmongering Native American tribes until a few years of Eurpean influence on a tribe. One of the most striking accounts can be found in the Journals of the Lewis & Clark expidtion (Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose is a great compilation of the joournals). The tribes that they encountered that had little European contact were far different than the tribes they encountered near the West Coast that had contact with European traders. But who can blame them for becoming warmongers! Ever read any of the journal entries from the Mayflower Pilgrims or Columbus? Try reading some to find out the TRUTH about the American MYTHS regarding our founding fathers. If you don;t feel like reading the journals pick up a copy of "Lies My Teachers Told Me" by James W. Loewen http://www.uvm.edu/~jloewen/ He has plenty of excerpts from early journals that he uses as primary sources.
War did exist between tribes, but a large part of traditional warfare was about nonlethal methods of capturing and acquring new members for their tribe (a crucial source of genetic diversity). South American cultures often had very nonlethal wars, sure many of the prisoners were later sacrificed in the name of religion, but many were adopted or enslaved in a MUCH fairer verion of slavery than what our mighty hero Columbus introduced into the Americas (yes yes yes, Columbus started it all on his first journey, he didn't find much gold so he kidnapped a number of natives to be used as slaves)
Not really related, but many Eurpoean women and children were 'captured' or adopted into indian tribes and after some peace treaties the indians were required to return them to 'civilization'. Many did not want to leave the tribe, some kicked and screamed and ran away asap. Native tribes had a remakble degree of democracy and equality. It was about the only place women and blacks could have a say in government at the time. Your "male centered warrior cult mythology" is complete BULLSHIT. Women had a much greater say in day to day ruling of the tribe than 'American women' of the time. Mythology? I assume you are Christian... do you refer to Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism as Mythologies? Keep in mind there are MORE people in this world that think that some guy getting nailed to a cross then being resurected 3 days later is as much a myth as Zeus and the other Greek "Mythological" Gods.
So back to the topic, I find it Ironic that I am so offtopic. Oh well, it's only karma.
Ebay should just take the easy road and remove online auctions from their business model.

Push will be the wave of the future! Why surf around for content when it can be delivered via a cute little cartoon caharacter.
I doubt this whole 'auction' thing will ever catch on anyway. None is ever going to buy a piece of junk from an unknown person over this here new fangled internet.
I'll stick with my local library. They actualy have lots of CD's that I can borrow for free for 2 weeks. Plenty of time to rip into whatever format I want. No new releases, but thats OK I think most music is crap these days. Most CD's I check out I already have the tape stuffed in a box somewhere. I actualy buy new music CD's that I like after I have sampled enough of the disc dfrom kazaa etc.
It's great for audiobooks on CD. I can listen to them at my leisure without worrying about late fees. I don't look at it as theft, more as maximizing my libraries circulation capabilities. I could renew them for 4 weeks, but if I return them after they are ripped some other poor schmoe can borrow them. Buying an unabridged audio book on CD is WAY to expensive for me to only listen to them once. I;ve noticed lots of new audiobooks are being released as MP3's burned on CD now. I wish they'd fall in price though. I'd pay $10 for one in a heart beat, but not $49.95 (SK's Dreamcatcher on three MP3 cd's).

No the orbit would not get bigger and bigger. What force would act upon it? Another object with MORE gravitational force than the planets star would be needed.
Mass being stripped off would affect the core though. It is often theorized that Jupiter has a rocky core 8 times the mass of the Earth, yet because of the emense pressure of the surrounding gases it is compresses it to a diameter of 11,000 KM, just smaller than the 12,800 KM diameter of the Earth. The estimated atmospheric pressure is near 70 million atmospheres with a tempature near 22,000 Kelvin.
So as the gas is drawn away from the core it would expand and cool (because of a decreased Kelvin-Helmholtz effect). The heavy core would actualy look larger than it was in it's compressed form. This of course would take many many millions of years. I would specualte by that time we'd have discoverd other planets past that particular stage of life.
I think a more interesting question would be as to WHY the atmosphere is being yanked by the star? It was thought that Jovian panets would only form at sufficient distances from a stars gravitaional force, otherwise all that Hydrogen and Helium would have been captured by the sun leaving a terrestial planet with a thinner atmosphere if any at all. Has the star expanded to a larger size or has the planet changed orbit?
Another interesting factoid about Jupiter. The "Great Red Spot" was first detected in 1664 by Robert Hooke. Other similar but smaller and much more temporary storms are commonly seen.

Those six types of powering up a machine are actually a pretty good thing. I've used the Automatic power up each day at a specific time as an alarm clock more than once. And it is also pretty nice for the work place.
Powering up a machine by using hotkeys on a keyboard is a nice feature for us big fat lazy guys that don't want to bend down to the level of the computers power button.
The graphical boot logo is ment more for OEM's (HP uses a lot of ASUS boards), and geeks that like to tweak this feature.
Although I like these features I must point out that the latest bios flash for my ASUS P2BLS seems to have caused some issues with powering down either via the power button or software when wake at a specific time is enabled, it reboots 30% of the time rather than shutting down.
As for the boot sector virus settings... I saw it used daily when I was doing phone support for Windows ME. We had a lot of techs that would explain the mysterious freezes that occured during setup as a "BIOS anitvirus" and tell them to call the BIOS maker. It made a great excuse and the cutomer can rarely verify this... ever tried calling AWARD? Good luck Joe Sixpack! That place sure sucked.
I notice that Tony Pierce of MS is on the Board at PCI-SIG. You may wnat to point out that their Knowledge base article q298837 points customers to www.yourvote.com/pci in order to ID unknown devices. I wrote the article and KNOW for a fact it is used daily be MS support techs while assisting customers.
I wrote this article while employed as a MS Win/ME customer support technician. It refers customers to www.yourvote.com/pci! I referenced yourvote because there is NO other easily availble database-- not even internal to Microsoft! I wonder what they plan on doing now? Ironic how MS is a member of the PCI SIG...
I guess I'll have to go back to my old method of searching the linux source code for device ID's, maybe MS should also update Q298837:)
OS/2's Solitaire was/is FAR better than Microsoft's version.
Until Microsoft integrates a menu item for cheating they will be inferior to IBM. When they do itegrate this function, I'm afraid even your precious Linux will cease to compete.

There is a technical article in the Microsoft knowledge base that shows users how to identify their PCI devices using their device ID's.

I guess I'll have to go back to my old method of searching the linux source code for device ID's, maybe MS should also update Q298837

Unfortunatley, for some people once GUM is introduced into the algorithms the wole system falls apart.

OS/2's Solitaire was/is FAR better than Microsoft's version. Until Microsoft integrates a menu item for cheating they will be inferior to IBM. When they do itegrate this function, I'm afraid even your precious Linux will cease to compete. ~Z
