Getting a game out ASAP to coincide with a movie release or to make some quick money to make the books look better before the next quarter are the highest prioritize on most game companies from the way games look now. Nintendo seems to still be trying to control the quality of their games somewhat, but look at the libraries. Nintendo doesn't have nearly as many games out as the other guys, but nearly every game they have out is something of high quality. PS2 especially on the otherhand you have to dig through alot of crap to find a game that is somewhat decent. But people are buying these games so no since taking them off the market just cause they glitch/freeze/unplayable randomly.
Thanks for still trying to bring us quality Nintendo. I for one appreciate it.
When we are on the Star Trek's Enterprise with their data/energy to matter and such technologies what the copyright laws will be. If you steal a digital copy of Captain Picard's valubles using the terminals, does he put you in the brig for theft, or copyright infringment?
If you could get the demo to work, the gameplay was awful and nothing like the actual game. I got the actual game after seeing some good reviews of it and it turned out to be a darn good game. Guess you can't judge a game by it's demo. I still don't get why they even bother with the demos though.
They want you to spend your 7$ to see the movie so even if it's crap, they still get to add that 7$ to the gross. Wasn't there a deal where the Tomb Raider sequel guys were blaming the demise of the movie on people's cell phones? People txt messaging each other saying the movie sucked will loose you some of those one time ticket charges.
Yeah, I used different media, actually the cheaper media ($2) seems to be more readable, i can recover about 70% of the data. The discs i spent the most on seem to be hardest to recover.
I backed up about 100GB of data a few months ago on DVD+R, and they worked fine for a few months. Now most of them are giving me CRC errors when trying to read them in any drive. I deleted the data from my hard drive to save space like a fool. I might as well have just bought another hard drive to back them up for the cost of the DVD-R media and writing drive:/
They need to research more ways to make this media last rather than try to increase the size.
8GB of dammaged data isn't good for anyone...except maybe Soviet Russia.
I think price fixing is when you are in cahoots with the 'competition'
To see what someone is selling a product at and sell yours at a similar price is common.
If microsoft was having meetings with sony and nintendo saying "Yo lets all make our consoles 300$ a piece" That would be price fixing. I do think there is price fixing on the games though. Everone seems damn strick on staying at $49. I remember when N64 was out, the games were expensive but most new ps1 games were pretty cheap. The games are more the money maker than the console anyway though so I guess it makes sense to jack them up.
Isn't the government supposed to do what the people who elect them want? I know people can feel powerless, but that doesn't mean we should just let the big dogs make our decisions for us. I'm glad to see that the officials are listening to the people rather than telemarketing lobbyists. This bill getting as far as it has shown that the people still have a voice. If you want to change something, just holler loud enough and with enough people behind you. That is something that money will never be able to take away.
I think if it was a game they would have tacked the -2 on it and make a new logo as per tradition. But you never know with square, they are taking more risks more than holding on to traditions lately.
I look forward to it, whatever it turns out to be. It'll be nice to see these characters brought to life in today's CG.
Of course if it is a game, you can look forward to your characters not having giant cubes for hands:)
VHS is being phased out and the original trilogy won't be on DVD until like 2007, if even then (and it's not even the 'original' original trilogy!) Most people I know have gotten DVD players and chunked the VCR. There's going to be a generation that has never seen the original star wars films. Episode I and II is all they have, heh.
The article is funny.
"Though we were one of the ones to give this game such critical acclaim when it was released, we realize now that we were just riding the bandwagon for fear of having a different opinion"
A site like this just shouldn't do an article about overhyped games, cause they are the main ones doing the hyping to start with. What's the point?
I think I heard that GTA III/VC couldn't find a publisher in Japan, apparently because of the game's violent and sexual themes. Hopefully Japan can stay cleansed of such filthy ideas!
Thoes games weren't really hyped or advertised much at all. I think Xenosaga actually had a tv commercial though, but those games really didn't claim to be revolutionizing anything. Well except the joke on the back of the box saying Xenosaga had 80 HOURS of gameplay, you shouldn't put a number like that (especially when it's nowhere near that long for the average player!), just put "Enjoy countless hourse of gameplay" like square does or something and let us decide how long it takes:/
I rather enjoyed the story of Xenogears (Can't really decide on saga, till they actually COMPLETE at least one of their countless story threads they started) It was alot more in depth than the average RPG's 'stop the all powerful evil madman' storyline and actually makes you think about your existance and purpose. I haven't really watched any anime, so I don't know how closely the story resembles Evangelion.
Yeah this surprised me too... the Xenogames are the highlight of religion in gaming, yet no mention at all of them, wierd. Even GTA Vice City is mentioned, heh!
We really have a short life on this earth and it seems we spend a good portion of it being manipulated by marketing and consuming the products they shove down our throats. I'm not sure what else we should be doing as a species, but it seems like we've really lost our way and are just a in a loop of consuming and providing products to consume, and eventually as the earth's resources diminish because of this, of course the corporations will look to space as a money maker. I just hope the corporations don't turn out to be as bad as they are in the sci-fi movies (Aliens, etc)
The console prices haven't been that ridiculous, it's the $49.00 games that keep alot of people (like me) from getting/playing these new consoles. Sony had a nice deal with the PSone "Greatest Hits" for $20.00, but when you buy a couple of 50.00$ games that aren't very entertaining, you tend not to bother buying the ones that may actually be worth it and your $99 console collects dust.
Not only the games themselves keep me on Windows, but hardware like the Radeon 9700 or a Audigy gamer are only fully useful when using windows drivers and games. The hardware industry kinda sucks in the way that they focus on hardware and drivers based only windows. This is horribly evident with modems. Has anyone ever gotten the average $10 modem to work in Linux? Of course, if I really want to get some work done though I crank up Mandrake, then KSpread, and don't have to worry about silly vbs viruses while i am just trying to make a spreadsheet:/

We actually use our computers to store music and data we OWN.

I suppose.
We can stop making video games, stop building big things for fear of them being destroyed, or we can just continue to live our lives.

then the chimps would be analyzing our DNA.
