    does he have high standards! You can EASILY play
    Quake III Arena or Unreal Tournament (heck, even
    UT 2003)! Some people just can't get by on 100
    frames per second... :^)

    a poor country! Hey FT, SA has the LARGEST
    supply of Oil in the world! Per capita,
    they are one of the RICHEST countries!
    Get your damn facts straight. How can you
    take that article seriously when they start
    out with such a BLATANT factual error?

    As for the idea of the UN running anything,
    PLEASE! They screw up everything they control.
    They want control to STIFLE it and TAX it.
    If it ain't broke (and it ain't), don't fix
    it (ie, RUIN IT)! If you think the RIAA is
    bad, give the UN control of the Internet!

    If he wanted to, he could have slapped the same
    LaserDisc version on DVD and made some quick bucks
    and then come back later and revised it to his
    liking. We all know there will be multiple
    versions anyway. He likes to tinker. Thank GOD
    that some of the old school directors didn't do
    that. Can you imagine things like Citizen Kane
    being revised to add CGI characters!

    Europe? I'm sorry, but I can't justify that. :^)

    I thought the version I used had potential,
    although some of my hardware wouldn't work.
    The OS loads REAL fast. I liked that... Oh
    well, maybe eventually we will get systems like
    this in the U.S.

    as long as SOMEONE does! The claim that a
    companies 1st amendment rights [SIC] are violated
    is specious. Nobody has the right to harass
    someone, which is of course what this is all
    about. Just because I have a telephone, it
    doesn't give you the right to call me. If your
    product was so great, and I needed it, I would
    find you! Hard selling may work in the short
    term, but you will not get repeat business this
    way. You will ALWAYS have to keep finding new
    customers, which means MORE work.

    shipping (okay, sometimes YOU don't, but the
    company covers it). I know! I've run a mail-
    order business for 10 years, selling over the
    Internet (first via Usenet, then my own web site,
    Yahoo auctions, BidVille and now eBay). I use
    the USPS for shipping. Every customer pays a
    fee set by the USPS. There are USPS employees
    in each State of the Union. Those employees ALL
    pay local, State and Federal taxes, that if they
    did not work for the USPS they might not be able
    to pay. If I didn't ship so many items, some or
    all of them might be out of work and unable to
    pay those taxes! I also pay local, State and
    Federal taxes based on my income. I also buy
    products from a supplier, whose employees all
    do the same thing.

    In addition, as a registered vendor in my State,
    I collect State sales tax on IN STATE sales. I
    will, however, NEVER collect sales tax for other
    States. If it should come to that, I will close
    down, and find another way to make a living (I've
    been thinking about playing Poker for a living
    anyway; no inventory or shipping or paperwork
    involved). :^)

    These politicians are simply GREEDY. They can
    never EVER get enough of YOUR money to satisfy
    them, and their endless desire to SPEND SPEND SPEND!

    because I mention it! Okay, fine. I will
    eventually get to moderate again. The last

    Sorry for the caps... Seriously, ever since I
    began selling on eBay the two e-mail accounts I
    use for that have been drenched in Spam. I'm
    getting 10 copies of the Swen/Swan thing each
    day! Just list something cheap, and include
    your e-mail account. They WILL find you! :^)

    I like Linux (and would use a Mac if they were
    cheaper), but geez! If everyone used the same
    OS (like, say...Windows) then the bad people
    would attack them there. If we all switched to
    a new OS, the bad people will switch too. The
    OS doesn't make them evil, they were evil before
    they got a computer!

    follow up with several clever FAKE bounced
    e-mails also containing it. I've been getting
    about 10 per day (total) for the last 3-4 days
    now, at an e-mail address I use to sell on eBay.
    The "patch" e-mail looks very real, but of
    course I'm not stupid, and the e-mail address
    is obviously fake. I NEVER open e-mail any way
    but as straight ASCII text, no matter who it is
    from. And I NEVER open attachments, from ANYONE!

    I should mention that while in college, I had the
    pleasant opportunity to meet an Indian fellow who
    was in my Russian class. Very nice guy, we studied
    together a few times. Tough class! His family
    had come to the USA only a few years prior. He
    introduced me to some Indian snack foods that I
    still enjoy.

    we here in the USA should adopt the same policy.
    Indians (people from India), should be welcome
    to come here for vacation, but not to work. And
    US companies should stop outsourcing their work
    to India.

    Before you moderate me down, know this: my
    mother in a LEGAL immigrant from Eastern Europe.
    I have NO problem with people coming here LEGALLY!
    She had to wait, YEARS, then she came here (not
    speaking ANY English) and she learned the language.
    She became a VERY succesful businesswoman.
    These people are NOT better than my mother, and
    they should not be treated in a special manner!

    I do however have a big problem with ILLEGALS
    (and I ain't talking about sick birds), and I
    also have a big problem with India's policy, if
    it is true.

    If we here in the USA did adopt their policy,
    we would be labeled as racist. Pot, Kettle, Black.
    India, you are racist (but I like your food)!

    when a court informs us that we do not have
    the right to control the ads that are placed
    and viewed on our own web sites. I understand
    that this is a third-party software, that the
    web site viewer is using, but wow! Isn't there
    some way for web sites to temporarily block
    these, just like f***microsoft.org can block
    me when I'm using my Windoze box? Or like some
    sites block you from viewing them if you have a
    pop-up blocker running? As someone who owns a
    business and has a web site for same, I find
    it objectionable that ads for a rival could
    be viewed by my customers... Luckily, for me,
    those with bigger guns (ie, LOTS of money) are
    fighting this thing.

    is going to suck. I remember typing in LONG
    programs, and sometimes losing data because
    I forgot to save to diskette sometimes. With
    this you don't even have that option. I give
    this guy (a local to me) an A for effort, but
    without even a cassette interface (and those
    stunk), you are S.O.L.

    I'm in favor of FREE stuff, if it is given up
    willingly by the creator/owner. The quote at
    the end of your post ("Progress has value only
    if it is shared by all -- slogan of SNCF [French
    Railways]") sounds like socialism to me...

    If someone creates something, ANYTHING, and
    wants to be paid for it, that is their right.
    If someone creates something, ANYTHING, and
    wants to give it away for FREE, great! What we
    don't need is a bunch of people forcing others
    to do something, just because they believe in it.

    And for the record, I don't like Mr. Gates any
    more than you do. :^) I went to buy a new
    notebook computer last week, and found one I
    REALLY liked (Toshiba P25-S607, SWEEEET), but
    I passed, not because of the price ($2500),
    but because it had an Intel processer and ran
    on Windows XP Media Center. I just can't
    bring myself to back either company (Micro$oft
    for obvious reasons, and Intel for their
    underhanded use of serial numbers dating
    back to the introduction of the Pentium 3).

    As for the Apple I, I'd love to own one. I
    still own my first computer (Apple II+) as
    well as an Apple IIe, IIc and IIgs.

    required to have his permission or cooperation
    to file on his behalf... They are acting in
    what they feel is the best interest of their
    child. Who are you to question that?

    Backward masking in heavy metal music,
    fat in food, gun makers instead of the
    crimals who misuse the product, customers
    who spill hot coffee on themselves blaming
    McDonalds, and the list goes on and on.
    Now we have parents blaming a video game
    for their own failings in raising their
    children and teaching them right from wrong.
    I've got no answers. I just find it all stupid.

    I would still have to sell my house to buy one
    (while I'd only have to sell my car to buy the
    PC). Okay, so I have a crappy house, and a
    crappy car, still... :^)

    It boggles my mind why Apple insists on pricing
    their equipment as they do. I STILL own an
    Apple II+, IIe, IIc and IIgs, so I am NOT
    anti-Apple. But I also own a business, and
    I know that you increase sales, and profit, by
    lowering price and CAPTURING MORE OF THE MARKET.
    Why does Apple not know this simply truth?
    What good does it do to be perpetually at 10%
    of the computer market? Running ads saying how
    easy it is to adjust to a switch in computer
    formats is wonderful, but try reducing your
    prices, which will increase your customer base
    when more people can AFFORD to make the switch!

    Regarding the story of origin, the performance
    (G5 vs. Xeon) sounds great.
