after that blackout some of us just lived through, I love my light bulbs, and I want to keep them happy. I'm a night owl, with a night schedule, and sitting in the dark for hours on end, with only the radio for company was a NIGHTMARE! I even began imagining that this must be what Hell is like, or at least what it would be like for me! Improve light bulbs, fine! Make a similar product to do the job better, fine! But don't even joke about taking away my light, again... please. Me no likey dark.
I have a home LAN that currently has 5 computers on it, and, obviously, can include more. I don't live in Florida (thank GOD), but if I did, what exactly would they be trying to tax me on? What goes on in my own home? You have GOT to be kidding!
Someone, somewhere, suggested burning at least two copies of the information you want to save, and with media so cheap, I've been doing that. I think that that will at least increase my odds. But I agree with you, buying better quality media, at a premium, would be the safest way.
Some would say dating Natalie Portman WOULD BE heaven!:^)
On the topic, I'm scared. I've been backing up important stuff to CD-R for about a year and a half (I was late joining the party, okay). What am I going to do now? I'm serious, help me!!!
To be fair, Coin-Op games are pretty big. I can fit a LOT more console stuff into my space than I could Coin-Ops. (not my collection pictured, but I've got about the same amount of stuff...)
Simple to learn and difficult to master... You sound just like Mike Sexton on the World Poker Tour (WPT). No Limit Texas Hold'em ROCKS! For that very reason. That is the key! The people who make the games, for people like us, need to find that exact balance. You shouldn't HAVE TO read the manual to start playing, you should be able to pick it up and read it when you feel you need to, for that extra boost to improve your fun.
I've been a video game player for, well, longer than I care to admit. I collect for over 40 different systems. I have so many games, that if I played 10 per day, I could go several years and still not be half way through my stuff.
That said, I agree with Carmack on the manual situation. If I HAVE TO read the manual before I can play a game, I'm not interested. I have always felt that if you can start playing the game and at least be able to have some fun and some success right out of the box, that that is a good thing. Later, after you've had some fun you can go back and read through the manual to improve your skills by picking up things you could not figure out on your own.
I don't want to start the old graphics vs. game play debate back up, but the thicker the manuals got (and the more you had to read them first) the more the graphics improved and the game play suffered. I really enjoy video games, and I hope that developers can find a "happy medium". That is where the fun is!
And then you have to consider that most people think you are wrong too, so there is that working against you.
Nice job, SCO! You shot yourself in the foot!
How nice of them, to milk us for every last dollar

They are swell! Gotta love them! Now we can all own 3 copies of the first movie and two of the second. By the time the third is released, we will all be able to own 3, 3 and 1. Give them another year and it will be 3, 3 and 3. I can have a set next to all my DVD players, so I never have to carry it around.:^)
remakes movies instead of innovating and making new movies! I mean please, why remake "Freaky Friday"! It was a cute movie for the 1970's, but couldn't they think of ANYTHING new!?! Can anyone think of ANY remake that was good (let alone better than the original). I even hear that "You've Got Mail" (which I've never seen), from a few years back, was a remake of a movie called "Little Shop on the Corner" or something like that. They just added e-mail, how innovative was that! Geez!
Hey Hollywood, stop making crappy movies and we will stop telling you they suck! Sound fair?
Why is it that these PDA thingies always seem to have an approximately 200 Mhz CPU? Can't they get a faster CPU to work with these? I'll admit that although a computer junkie, I don't know much about PDA's. I just don't care for them. I just see reviews and the specs always seem to list the CPU as 200 or 206 Mhz, and I always think, wow that is slow. Anyway... thank you.
SCO says the code was stolen, but won't let ANYONE see the code to verify or disprove their claim. Silly, but how else do you solve this mess? And then you will have a Judge trying to decide if the code is stolen or not, line by line... OMG! I know I don't want that job!:^)
Go ahead. Moderate me down. I can take it. I know that freedom of speech only applies to those on the political left. Just know this, I occasionally get to moderate too.:^)
At least that is what SOME people said. This is far worse than Microsoft software not working on PC hardware, after all, they don't make computers! This is APPLE software not working on APPLE hardware! Not good! So what does the all-mighty bearded one (Jobs) have to say about this?
The funny thing is, I'd buy a Mac... if I had a billion dollars. Really, I would.:^)
Global warming is junk science. Weather patterns are cyclical. Nobody, NOBODY, was recording what the weather was like 5 thousand years ago. Gee, just watch your local news weather and see the "record" high and low for your area on any given day. In 1930 it was 84 and in 1996 it was 69. Does that mean the earth is cooling?
The same weather NAZIS who now claim global warming were pushing global cooling (ie, next ice age) during the 1970's. A few bad winters and 'In Search Of' (Spock) and Reader's Digest were on the bandwagon. Soon the cyclical weather cycled, and the weather NAZIS had to switch their tactics.
Let them joust their windmills, and you just live your life.
Have you played at TruePoker.com? 3-D table, you can see how often the player's look at the cards...very intersting. I prefer PartyPoker.com because they are the ONLY site I can find which offers play money table tournaments (in regular Limit Hold'em, as well as Pot Limit and No Limit). Their only problem is that they have become too polular! When I signed up 2+ months ago, at their busiest time of day they would have about 3000 people on-line. Now, till late at night, they can have 10,000 and you can NOT get a seat at a table (regular or tournament). The tournament tables are like musical chairs as 57 people try to see who can click 1 button, a check box and then a second button the fastest for 10 seats!
That said, I agree that reading your opponents is VERY important (almost as important as the cards you have). You can still do it on-line, but you have to do it differently than you would in person (ie, you can't see people twitch or hold their breath, or see their eyes get big as they see they drew A-A for their hole cards.
diamonds are NOT rare!
