Do you think if he went to IBM that he could potentially be fired for it? I'm just curious if that would end up happening of his company ended up having to spend a lot of money on lawyers to get that thing figured out.
What if you send parts of your own already published book to a friend through AOL? Or someone elses? What if you send an mp3 disguised as your own that's really using some samples of some famous work (happens all the time with DJ/producers remixing famous tracks into their own special genre (i.e. drum n bass versions of hiphop songs)).
If AOL were to ever publish those tracks then the actual AOL user could be losing out but then AOL would get into hot water with any material that actually was already copywritten.
$228.80. Although that's because of a hard drive failure. I'll just roughly multiply it with what I had and the new stuff I have now and it'd be about $1,000. Granted it'd be nice to pay $15 for the Aphex Twin discography but at a 320-500KB/sec compression rate. Even still, at this point in my life (student, broke ass), 5 cents wouldn't cut it for me since I can barely pay my bills.
Once I have a full time job then I *might*...
You know what? Fuck it. I wouldn't do 5 cents. Fuck 'em. A lot of the music I listen to isn't pop anyway (i.e. IDM), so if I did have a disposable income I'd support the artists themselves by purchasing straight from the record label (i.e. Rephlex, Ghostly, warp, etc) or the artist even.
So in reality I guess I'm not even their customer.:D...Ah what the heck, I'll hit submit anyway.
Yeah no kidding, my two biggest memory hogging applications are:
- javaw.exe @ 43,616K at the moment - firefox.exe @ 40,564K at the moment.
I like Azureus enough that I'll let this slide since I don't use it all the time (newsgroups are fun), and I dislike IE enough that 50mb doesn't seem so bad, plus I have enough ram anyway.
Slashers was a movie that took this concept and seen what would happen. I mean the movie's not that fantastic but it's basically last man/woman standing gets the winnings.
Shows how people would be glued to the tv screen to see this type of shit. The acting wasn't great, the effects weren't great, but I watched the whole thing anyway.:P

If you follow http://www.slahsdot.org/ it's almost the same site but there's "wrestling women" as the most popular link. Does that mean slash dotters have this affinity for buff chicks? We need a psychologist in here...
So who owns the rights to the Deus Ex franchise? Even though DX:IW was somewhat of a disaster, the idea behind the game's still great. Open ended game play, great storylines etc.
I wonder if Deus Ex 3 could be picked up by some other development company. It'd be nice to see a third installment.
I did both College and University. One year at University and I realized I didn't know what I really wanted to do. So I finally knew (something related to computers) so I went for a "Computer Programmer" diploma at my local college. Practically finished it but I really didn't learn all that much. General VB.NET programming skills, basic Java programming skills, some general network knowledge, quite a few decent courses in database theory (later on programming), and some web stuff. Practically NO math...there was 1 course that was the equivalent of grade 10 stuff. We were using Maple.
So what did I really get out of it? Hmmm...some OO concepts, database theory (which is nice), but am I a competent programmer? Do I really know how to produce a great Java app? No. I don't even remember much of it.
Personally I think University's much better because you get a strong foundation and you can always teach yourself new languages. With College they don't challenge you at all (at least not in my school). So now I'm 25 and going back to University for one more crack at the education system. yay.
In Ontario, Canada it's illegal, although I don't know how enforced it is. I think even hands free cell phones shouldn't be used in the car because a person's mind is completely elsewhere.
I've even been guilty of this, I'd drive with a hands free cell phone conversation and I would almost make a fatal mistake on the road because the conversation in question was an argument or something requiring a few thoughtful answers.
As I recall, the cell phone companies were probably against this but they didn't want to look like asshats so they suggested you use a hands free ear phone if you want to talk in the car.
Now...what was my comment going to be...
(Unfortunately, I'm not trying to be funny, I'm trying to be insightful)

Queue Dance
:P
Usually I'm not too much into Gwen Stefani but after waiting until the queue got to 0 it really grew on me.
(As previously posted on slashdot)
IANAL

No...

Close though.

"Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke."
- Will Rogers (I think, took it off a 'net source)
This quotation seems to hit the mark since all of our comedians actually end up making a lot more sense than our politicians and media.
Bring on the comedian overlords.

The several thousand smog-related deaths annually in my city is not a joke.

The quality of life for everyone is going down because pollution is really affecting our health and our immediate surroundings.
What with Norway 's tld being the same, maybe they're taunting them in some obscure conspiracy theory type of way...

Deus Ex 2 was only 2 hours long you insensitive clod!
(I recall reading some guy finishing it in just under an hour, I don't know how, I personally beat it in 2).
Ha, first time I saw that was on tribe.ca. Pretty dope.
""In the media group they all smoke the company dope on that one," the manager said.
