The problem is that most school districts refuse to pay for the level of quality in network professionals that they need. Therefore, they get mediocre (generally) computer skilled people running their networks. I'm sorry, but a mac expert just doesn't cut it anymore. You need someone who knows how to manage IP layer traffics as well as various network applicances and Windows-based PCs (for the teachers who inevitably bring in their own laptops). Until the districts cough up for qualified people, their networks will continue to degrade.
I wonder if some find this shcoking at all. My wife works for the school system - many teenagers exhibit similar behavior and in almost every (but not all) case, the parent's attitudes and lack of respect for authority are often attributing factors.
Free thinking and speech is a good thing. However, anything without boundries is dangerous. Its often those boundries that keep us a civilized society - moving forward.
Many people use turboxtax/etc... Tax Software. It stores a backup of your return (and SSNs) in pdf format - easily readable by anyone with access to the drive. Is it smart to leave it on the hard drive? No - but then again, turning in your PC without asking for the parts replaced back isn't smart either.
as the popularity of Itunes and other online stores increases, why don't apple and others start charging the Music Industry for the right to use their (Apple's, etc...) distribution channel?
and suggest continued research into alternative fuels. While soybeans are a good renewable source of fuel, it is unlikely we could power enough automobiles for the population of the US or the world for that matter. There just isn't enough farmland to produce the crop needed for this kind of fuel source. Perhaps a combination of fuel cell/bio could be developed for reduced consumption.
Geeze. Let's take the whole DRM issue out of this as an issue. Why on earth would you drive to your local BB to do this? You have a sync cable and broadband access to the net (More than likely). Why not a storefront on Apple or one of the other online distributers (Movielink, etc...) where you buy and download? Cmon people. Are we that thick?
I'll point it out then... The word "think". They think their work bolsters the the case for global warming. It does not "show" ie, prove that global warming this century is more.
Again, inaccurate submission - the title for the submission is misleading.
From the article, "The researchers think their work bolsters the case that global warming due to human activity has created a change in climate unlike anything seen in more than a millennium". Notice - they "think their work bolsters the case" for global warming. There is no "proof". It is theory or speculation. Can we please submit accurately?
I agree. What a great idea. Charge for product (A) that didn't receive the topmost in QA and then create product (B) line that cleans and fixes product (A). Charge annual fee for product (B) while stringing users along on product (A) until the next revision of product (A) is available - charge upgrade fee for product (A). Repeat and rinse....
Keep in mind that MSfts team must ensure compatibility with hundreds of programs before implementing patches. An independent developer who comes up with a patch doesn't. My 2 cents.
We've installed Mitel gear in facilities ranging from Medical Clinics to Small Mom and Pop Shops. The High End Mitel 3300 would be overkill for you, but they have a small business owner flavor. We've installed both Cisco and Mitel and by far the winner is Mitel. Low maintenance, intuitive and customizeable web interface and solid performance. The small mom and pop flavor isn't that much more expensive than putting together an asterisk system and you get full support.

I find it most disconcerting that any one with intelligence could believe so dogmatically in ANY Theory. At the time that those who believed the THEORY that the world was flat (world renown educators and scientists at the time) a group of individuals challenge it, are called heretics, threatened. Why? Fear would be my guess.
Evolution is a Theory - just because a majority of world-renown scientists accept it as truth does not make it so. Creationism is a Theory - based on belief. A theory exists - because it can not be proven as fact. Belief in a theory can come from science, religion, history, etc...
Stop bashing those who believe differently from you. The very tolerance you claim to have you refuse to give to those who oppose your views.
Many other distros will still have alternatives available. Gentoo makes it easy for either WM. Qt is highly used on embedded and portable devices - so KDE will not be dying off.
>> Because when you unplug it no one can leave you voicemail.
Umm... You know the word "portable" was used. It would uplink to your primary asterisk when online. When unavailable your voicemail would be stored on the primary... Using dyndns would solve the dynamic ip problem...
The article mentions that it was developed with the hopes that some can find a use for it. How about a portable asterisk server so when you travel your voicemail and pbx go with you?
Changing the parameters of s study also changes the description of the study. If the researches are not publishing the study change descriptions with the research result changes, then that IS falsifying results and is unethical.
Geeze... It always amazes me that people choose to live in remote-isolated areas and then expect someone in the business of making money to hand out nearly free service at a loss...
In Alaska we'll pay as much as $100/month for a meg of bandwidth - not dirt cheap but then again, we chose to live here. LECs and CLECs cannot just give away business... They have to pay for the usage rights, cable plant, etc...
If you want cheaper 'net access, move to the city - but then again, you'll pay more for real estate, property taxes, etc... It'll come out one way or the other.
Some doctors are already using robots remotely to diagnose patients... In Alaskan remote communities, something like this can eventually provide remote robotic surgery with sensory feedback...
No... You don't need those requirements... Distcc helps nicely and can cut the compile time for a base system by one third... Sometimes to get the biggest gain in anything you have to be willing to do a little work (in this case - research).
Why not? A topic of discussion before, how about movie theaters participating in a p2p "theater only" version of bittorrent? They could efficiently distribute large digital film content in an economical manner.... Wouldn't this help legitimize the whole p2p debate?

Right CowboyNeal... Geeze this is a "tech" forum. Why not leave the Peta dialogue for forums more suited. When did slashdot become a catch-all?

Now my kids won't need drivers ed, and I'll save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to....
Without a trace airs on a broadcast channel. The other channels are obtained through cable or satellite. The FCC only regulates broadcast (air).

Seeing as how they (MSFT) are playing the anti-spyware role, maybe McAfee is ripe for a MSFT buyout and integration with Vista?
