I don't see slashdot removing any posts, even to goat.cx sites or even your post. Seems as you're free to say anything you want. It also seems that you seem to think that every opinion is equal, and that yours is necessarily just as valid in the same forum. Quite a different thing.
Just because you think "different" doesn't mean you think "right".

How the hell is this insightful? My parents may not have known everything I did when I was a teenager, but I knew there was a chance they might know about something I did. Kept me out of trouble for the most part. And believe it or not, teenagers are people too, even with all their hormones and angst. If you respect them, they quite often will respect you, and speak to you relatively civilly. If you're expecting to keep your kids under lock and key, then you're dreaming. But you can still get a very good idea about what they're doing where and with whom by just paying attention.
Perhaps you're the gullible one, believing that just because your kids hate you, you can't do anything about it.

No. They'll probably hand out copies of Linspire or Freespire. If they can make the computer even $50 cheaper by not using Windows, people will buy it. That's Wal-Mart's whole business model. And that applies to their employees, too. Medicare is cheaper than providing real health insurance.

Lots of people outside the "geek" circles (and a few inside of it) have no clue about the difference between RAM and hard drives. It's all memory to them. They want a bigger hard drive to make their computer go faster. Thankfully I've trained my family and friends to ask me those questions before they believe the twit at Best Buy or wherever, and they're learning more every year ;)

  11. Re:Painting something black doesn't make it invisi on Cloak of Invisibility Coming Soon · · Score: 1

Well, they make it imprecise because the journalist and/or most readers quite often don't have the technical capability to grasp many of these rather involved concepts in a short article. But the article did give a hint in that it leverages a negative index of refraction. It basically "bends" light around something. For something to 'appear', light has to bounce off it or be emitted from it, and then enter a detector/your eye/whatever. If it never gets the "light bouncing off of it" part, then it's invisible.
And either way, even a 99% invisibility is a HUGE advantage. Think of things like an octopus. It's not invisible, but it can be damn hard to see. If you aren't knowing what you're looking at against a very plain backdrop, it's as good as being completely invisible.
In short, you're shortsighted and rather uninformed. Please remedy that before posting this kind of tripe again.
